Amazing Stay at Ocean El Faro!

We had the best time at Ocean El Faro in Punta Cana! Amazing pools, great food, and such a fun vibe but what really made our trip unforgettable was Carlos and Endrick from the animation team. They were full of energy, super friendly, and made sure everyone was having a great time. Whether it was pool games, dance parties, or evening shows, they kept the fun going all day. Both of them truly went above and beyond and made our vacation so much better. If you visit Ocean El Faro, make sure you find Carlos and Endrick, they’re the best!

Ocean El Faro is El Crappo

We booked a room with the Privilege upgrade. Comes with a butler, priority reservations, free mini-bar, etc. When we arrived I was surprised at how ratty the furniture was. The rooms were not much better. Ours had a distinct mildew odor, and the a/c would not maintain a temperature. Our butler made reservations for three of the restaurants. Every time we checked in for our reservations, the hostesses treated us like we were interrupting them. They were not friendly or welcoming. Just snotty. Paying for Privilege also gets you private dining. The dining rooms were never crowded, and there were always enough staff to serve us. The service was terrible. They would stand around and talk instead of making sure we had everything we needed, or clear dirty dishes, or refill drinks. Same snotty attitude as the hostesses. The quality of food was as expected in the all-inclusive market. Mediocre at best. Paper thin steaks, low quality meats, watered down drinks. On our last night we wanted to eat at their "diner" Route 66. We sat and waited about 10 minutes for a server to approach us. He then informed us that they were only offering their menu from the Mexican restaurant next door which was closed. WTF? Worst Mexican food ever. Taco Bell would have be a step up. The night before we left I messaged our butler to arrange to be picked up the next morning and brought to the lobby. (also a Privilege service) He read it right away, but didn't respond. Maybe he was off already, so I messaged him again in the morning. Again he read it and didn't respond for 3 hours (after we had already left). When I travel I am in a great mood and I treat the workers with respect and kindness. Even when service is bad. I've stayed at several all-inclusives, and this was the worst

Honest review

My husband and I just returned from a 7-day stay at Ocean El Faro for our honeymoon. We stayed on the El Beso side and had a pretty good time. However, there were lots of inconsistencies throughout the entire stay that did put a sour taste in our mouths. First, our room. We had a junior sweet garndenview that looked right onto one of the pools. The room itself was very clean, super comfortable bed and the AC worked fantastic. The main issue was with room service. One day, we wanted extra water in our room. We called FOUR times before someone came, and it was a completely different person that just randomly walked by with water. His name was Juan Carlos and he was amazing! I explained to him what had happened and he told us any time you see me you tell me what you want, he was fantastic the whole trip. I was very excited for the food as we had went to Cuba last year and I was okay with the food there. Let me tell you I was actually super disappointed with the food! There was never a time, wether at the buffet or even at an a la carte, was the food ever actually got. It was lukewarm to cold. The only time you got hot food was if you went to one of the stations (omelette, stir fry, etc). That really annoyed me that nothing was ever hot. We tried a few restaurants (Dolce Vita, Steakhouse, Bluemoon, Route 66) all the places, except for Route 66 was meh at best. Dolce Vita has a great waiter named Frendy! Very attentive and a great staff member! Speaking of staff, they were not very good at being attentive during meals. One piece of advice I can give, avoid the “not time share but it is in fact a time share” people at all cost. They usually get you on day 2 to come listen to a “presentation” and will offer you a “gift”. If you do happen to go, cut the guy off after an hour max! We had a couple that was stuck there for FOUR HOURS. A waste of a day! Oh and their “gift”, a certificate for a couples massage which sounds really nice, but come to find out when we went to book it’s only a head and neck massage so we ghosted our appointment. Also, if you fly Sunwing/westjet, the rep is a bit slimy. You have to go see him to book your transfer back to the airport and he told us we could either wait at the el Beso lobby or come to the main lobby. We decided to go to the main lobby. Our pickup time was scheduled for 11:50am, we did not get picked up until 12:30! My husband went to speak to that rep asking him if he knew anything, he said oh they might’ve gone to the other lobby to pick you up. When my husband said you specifically told us we could come to this lobby to be picked up, he said oh well I don’t know you might’ve missed your transfer and I’d you did you’ll have to taxi it. Thankfully the transfer was just super late, but that was again super frustrating! They are currently at 50% capacity as it’s considered their down time, so maybe if we go back, we will go during their busier season. We give the whole trip a 3.5-4/5 due to the issues but the pools were beautiful and the drinks were good!

Fun

Overall, the experience was good for the price. Every staff member was fantastic. So kind, welcoming and great with our kids. The food at all of the restaurants was very good as well. They also had a lot of intentionality and opportunities for kids activities, which was fun. Susana did an incredible job with the kids and the different activities. The pools and lazy river were fantastic. The kids loved all of the water stuff. The biggest downside was the room. I felt as though it was a little more beat up than I was expecting. I know the ocean air is not easy on buildings/furniture, but I believe it could have been taken care of a little more. The pull out mattress was also not good. Thankfully it did not bother our youngest, but would have been pretty uncomfortable for most. So while not perfect, it was a good trip for our family and provided great opportunities for us to connect.

The most disgusting hotel I have been to in all my years of traveling to Punta Cana.

This hotel is one of the worse hotels I have visited. The rooms were not ready at check in time. We were asked to come back; we requested a call when the rooms were ready; 10pm came and we didn't receive a call; so, we walked to reception where we met the supervisor Junior who was rude or condescending. Giving excuses vs taking responsibility. The biggest turn-off for me as a customer as I spent enough money to be accommodated. Once we got to the room, the room was not cleaned properly and I have photos to prove it, and one room was not even up for booking, the cleaning maid stated she reported early morning due to the ceiling falling out and the closet was hanging out of the sockets. This was a family trip with 4 rooms booked in this hotel. We were supposed to have hammock and none of them did, we received the hammock the day before check-out and the flap of the seat was dirty and dingy. They didn't even offer to upgrade us due to the inconvenience, but they did want to downgrade us. Please make it make sense.

Beware staff wanting to sell you Privilege/ Timeshare

This is the largest resort I’ve stayed on, we upgraded to El Beso adults only section of resort, less busy than El Faro side, I liked the layout of the resort, food nothing to write home about, the staff work really hard and are friendly and helpful, the rooms are good size and comfortable, the reason I gave it a 3 star instead of 5 star was the experience we had on the Travel Club/ Privilege Club presentation, we were promised it would only take 1 hour instead the whole process took nearly 3 hours only to hear the same old timeshare/ Points crap I’ve heard on numerous occasions, was lead to believe it was an H10 club presentation, so we felt cheated and lied to by desperate guys wanting us to go to presentation wanted us to lie about our age and nationality to say we were English instead of Scottish, the weather was poor so we thought we’d go along promising us a free massage, when we went to book into massage they wanted to charge us $140 for a 50 minute massage as our gift we received was apparently only for a 20 minute massage, my advice anyone reading this great resort to holiday stay well clear of timeshare team who do not reflect well on the honest hardworking people who cater for you on your holiday.

Not good, but not bad

First of all this is only what I experienced in a recent 11 night holiday at the Ocean El Faro.
Loved the Ocean El Faro Resort!
The check in was busy and very slow, with a lack of information given out eg nothing about privilege and El Beso. We were assigned a butler at check-in.

He showed us how to get to our room. On first inspection the room was adequate, but nothing special. Over the next couple of days we found the following issues.
1) There was no means to clean toilet - no brush or jet wash.
2) Fridge did not cool cans - reported issue, but never fixed.
3) Bath had no plug - reported issue, but never fixed.
4) The lock on sliding doors were broken and didn’t lock - looked to have been broken for quite a while.
All the above are minor, but show there are no room checks carried out prior to guests arriving.
Other guests seemed to have the same minor issues.

Never had any problems getting into the A La Cartes and all were of good quality.
All the pools were great and we all enjoyed the lazy river, many times over. If you are looking for a family friendly spot in the DR.
This hotel is ok, but not luxurious - if you can get it at a reasonable price.

Low quality food

I am at present staying in this hotel with my husband and son .I don't usually write bad reviews but in this occasion I think it's important to let people know.
The hotel itself its beautiful we had some issues with our rooms on arrival and Angel from guest relations put things right straight away my issue with this hotel its the food I am not at fussy eater but the restaurants and buffet are simple awful. I can eat almost anything but straight away I will tell you that this hotel doesn't cater for Europen guests .there is so much rice beans and cream potatoes one person can eat .the food is of very low quality I asked for chips and the answer was go to the burger place by the pool you can get them there .I had never had this issue specially as there is many children in the hotel and I am not asking for anything out of the ordinary. The evening buffet on our first night was also awful the food was cold and considering the size of this hotel it looked more like a staff canteen than a hotel restaurant facility. We went to the steak house on the second night and asked for barbecue sauce and it was met with no we don't have it .this is not the response I expect. Last night route 66 restaurant was not better the food was dry and cold we went early so I believed it was cooked hours in advance. My advice is if you are looking for the food standard provided in Europe avoid this hotel.

Take the advice or take the loss

Pro’s: Staff friendly and Attentive

Con’s: Everything Else

Coming from a hospitality background working as a General Manager and Hotel Manager across multiple brands means that I do my thorough research into any hotel I stay at.

This hotel is the prime example of an extremely overpriced 3 star experience. Primarily let me start on the rooms. In our party we had 2 rooms and both came with major flaws showing that no supervisor had signed off the room as being clean for the check in.

In my room (8225) there was a broken TV, Stained Bedding, Torn Headboard and a rusted fridge.
In our second room (8226) the front door was split from top to bottom meaning that the door would not close, there was a severe damp smell and we were missing the swing which was advertised in the room specifications.
On top of this, both safes in our rooms were faulty and required them to be swapped out.

Credit due where it’s due, we contacted the Guest Service Supervisor, and he immediately got to work with resolving these issues, however most of these issues should not have occurred if the correct housekeeping checks were completed prior to check in.

Secondly, food and beverage… where to start on this one. Never in my life have I refused someone a minor request of asking for BBQ sauce or Chips (fries). This is the first “claimed” 5* resort which has not offered chips in their buffet selection. For a hotel that caters for not only the Latin American population but also the British and other European countries, the lack of comfort food for those fussy eaters is definitely a miss in the buffet.

The route 66 restaurant is generally a safe bet for food, so I would personally rely on this more than the buffet.

The steakhouse: Now when we asked for a small pot of BBQ sauce, to then be told no we don’t do that is unacceptable from a 5* property. A very small ask and a lack of customer service is clearly visible in these areas.

Finally, understandably when writing this review we are current guests in the hotel and we were affected by the Hurricane Melissa and its adverse weather. However the adverse weather is not an excuse to not do any daytime entertainment. there is sufficient space and time to organise entertainment in the public areas such as the reception and theatre however in my first 4 days at this property I have not seen a single activity other than one 30 minute match of water volleyball.

To think that we were on the verge of planning a second holiday here with extended family and friends, estimated to cost about £17,000, this experience has truly shown to us that we’ve dodged a bullet by waiting until we return home.

For all English, American and Canadian tourists, Save your money go elsewhere, may I recommend a RIU, Melia or Bahia Principe.

Honest review.

We have visited many Caribbean islands and this was by far the worst in terms of hotel and customer service. When we arrived we were met by a grumpy man at reception, he was unhelpful to say the least. When we kept saying that we was unaware that we had been booked into the family part of the hotel which means we were unable to use the adult only section he just kept saying that we needed to pay and extra £60 per person per night, shoved our Green wrist bands on us as walked away! When we arrived at our room it smelt moldy and felt damp. There's also a smell of sewage in the bathroom every morning until we flushed the toilet and turned the taps on in the sinks. The furniture needs updating and the decor needs serious attention. We were told that the hotel was built in 10 months which you can tell from the building work in the rooms. We were correct in thinking that the room was smelt moldy as there was a mushroom growing out of the wall in the toilet. The whole room was just not clean enough and this made me feel very uncomfortable for the whole trip. The food was not the best, the buffet was ok but never ‘wow, that was really nice’ the steak house was nice and so was the Italian restaurant. Route 66 was serving food from the Mexican restaurant which was terrible! The waitress in route 66 was the worst we had, it took her maybe 15 minutes to serve us and when she did that when we found out that they were serving from the Mexican menu. The restaurants also keep you waiting outside for 5/10 minutes even though you have booked and the restaurants are never full, this is really uncomfortable in 29 degree humid heat. There’s also not much choice when it comes to snacks during the day. There’s 1 hut that you can get hotdogs and burgers from and there the buffet but nothing else unless you want cake and coffee. I think this is where most people ended up as the queue was always really long. The pools that we were allowed in were clean. The pool bars don’t open until 10 so if you want even water you can’t get it until then. The drinks are majorly watered down to the point where there’s not much point in drinking them as they are just flavored sugar water! Try and escape the time share talk. They do not leave you alone until you go saying that ‘we don’t get a wage we only get commission when you say that we have sent you’ this is obviously not the case, this is their job as the same men are always there by the buffet waiting to scoop you up and pressure you into going for a 20 minute chat that at least turns into an hour. We only got away because I said that I had a belly ache! The beach is nice, we didn’t spend that much time there. My main thing was the food and the room and on those points I wouldn’t go back there.

Bad experience at Ocean El faro

Though check in officially at 3 pm I was delayed about 30 min to get the room.
I had a problem with the safe in the room and requested service at 9:45 am the person showed up at 12:30 pm to fix the safe and my morning was just wasted waiting for the service.
Their technology doesn’t work if you want to book a restaurant through their app there is no way to get through.
If you call from the room front desk or guest service there is no answer.
