Montego Bay has been a popular resort destination for the entirety of this century, originally famous for the reputed healing powers of the water at Doctor's Cave Beach. There are three main beaches, Doctor's Cave, Cornwall and Water Fletcher, each among the nicest in the world, with calm and clear waters just beckoning you for a relaxing swim that will have you forgetting any and all problems. There are also the beaches closer to the airport that offer the exhilarating option of watching the planes fly right over your head!
The beaches are just off Gloucester Avenue, which is called the Hip Strip. It is packed with restaurants, shopping opportunities, and a new casino, as well as the major clubs of the city. Margueritaville is the club you won't forget. A three story, open air bar that backs up into the bay-literally, they have a winding water slide that shoots out the more adventurous clubgoers into the beautiful, lighted waters of the Carribbean! Dance as long as you can in the packed house and then cool off by going down the water slide.
If you're looking to get out of the city for a while, there are plenty of day trips where you can explore other areas of Jamaica. There's Dunn's River Falls in Ocho Rios, where you can climb the 600-foot cascading waterfall. or take a trip to beautiful Negril and take in one of the concerts Negril is famous for. Ten square miles of the reefs off of the coast of Montego Bay are part of the protected Marine Park, and are great for scuba diving and snorkeling.
