Great all exclusive resort!

Traveled with family and friends (4 adults & 4 kids) and had a great time. The hotel is new and the rooms are a good size with great views. The food and drinks were good which sometimes you don’t get at all exclusive but everything was good. The waterpark was a nice change from the pool/beach and while it’s not too big it was a good size with several slides and a lazy river. The staff was all very nice and helpful. The only downside was the seaweed on the beach h make it where we couldn’t get in the water but that is seasonal so I’m assuming it’s not always like that. Overall great and will be back!

Family Vacation - 4 adults 2 young girls

As I have shared with several people since I got back to Michigan, this place is a tremendous value for a family vacation or couples/singles only vacation. There is so much to do on site. Check the website because it is too much to list. Daily activities for families or singles/couples only. Land or Sea they have something. The pools were very cool and fun to hang in. The food was superb! Reminded me of some of the fancy restaurants I have been in throughout the bigger American cosmopolitan cities. They had places for all kinds of eatery. Sleek, hanging out, family buffett, elegant bites, cafes, chilling, lots of bar options (if that is your thing). Everything tasted delicious!! The staff were the most accommodating and friendly staff anywhere in the world. Super kind and cheerful and polite and professional. Amazing! They made the trip even more beautiful than place, and the place is gorgeous. The fitness center is second to none too. Totally awesome! Well worth the money and time. Plus, there are things to do off-site too that everyone loved down there. I didn't leave because I didn't really need to with so much to do on-site, but I spoke with lots of people (locals and tourists), besides everybody being in a great mood, and the off-site places are lots of fun they all said.

Excellent in September

All the fantastic things that people have ever said about this place is 100% true. My own highlights below.

When you arrive and the first thing you hear is “welcome to your second home”, you know it’s going to be good. My six-year-old then attempted to carry one of our suitcases up the steps, to which we got an immediate response of “you’re on vacation here and you don’t work.” I heartily clarified that I’m on vacation but the six-year-old can work to burn off all his extra energy. The porters were on point. Check in went seamlessly.

I prayed the entire 15 minute ride from the airport that we wouldn’t get the crappiest room given that we booked on Costco travel instead of direct. Keep in mind I had very tempered expectations. My happiness was fully based on no cooking, cleaning or emails for the week. Anything else would be gravy.

What a pleasant surprise when we got to our room. We got the junior suite double and I swear it was bigger than our first apartment in Vancouver. Perfectly comfortable for a family of four with kids under 10. We requested extra bedding for the sofa bed, and it was set up with no issues. The huge deck was outfitted with another daybed and a two-person patio set that looked out to the whole resort and the ocean. I would say about 90% of the rooms in this property will have some sort of ocean view. There were a few rooms where some decks looked out at a wall or an Astroturfed roof. It would’ve sucked to have gotten those rooms so I’m convinced my prayers worked. And now it’s also given me a new curse idea next time someone annoys me at work. “May you get a resort room that faces an Astroturfed roof.”

Not one bad meal was had. The Dominicans season their food like the Filipinos do, liberally with a lot of heart. These Canadians also found their portions “Murica sized. The buffet at Mercado for example it’s not quite self service. The staff serve you so it was a bit challenging to do portion control at times. I practiced saying “poquito” and “no mas” the whole week, but it was still generous portions. If heart health and sodium levels are a concern, I would say something, especially for made to order food.

Another pleasant surprise. You can leave your kids at the kids club, and head over to Zilara to enjoy their facilities and their restaurants. We got to try the Waves steak restaurant and it was quite good. At this time of the year, we thought the vibe at Ziva was more bumping, and we found a lot of the grown-ups from Zilara having their meals with the families on the Ziva side.

We used the kids club for about half a day. I tried to force my kids to spend time with us— after all isn’t that what a family vacation is all about? As testament to how good the kids club was, my kids wanted to go back to them instead. Kids club staff recognized us and would reach out by name to tell us about planned activities.

Service was mostly outstanding. Housekeeping was phenomenal and super responsive. Gracious and welcoming at the Coffee Republic. Exceptional at Mercado. Let’s be honest here, any kind of customer service job, hospitality included is tough. It takes special people to recognize opportunities to make other people happy and to actually deliver on it.

One evening, Jean Carlo approached our table to ask how everything was. I may or may not have lamented about the lack of seafood options on their menus. Next thing I know I was coming back the next evening for a seafood dinner served family style. I believe another chef named Sebastian came to check on us as well. We had octopus, a whole fried fish (boca chica) and shrimp two ways.

Jean Carlo checked in with us the whole night, and even though I didn’t bother him beyond the seafood dinner, he made it very clear that if we had any other issues beyond Mercado, he is there to help.

Hyatt, this man is upper management material. Jean Carlo single-handedly melted all my minor annoyances during our stay. All the staff we encountered at Mercado went above and beyond. Every meal, when they see parents with multiple plates, someone will grab the plate from you and they just knew where you were seated. Thank you to Jahiro for putting up with our Americano requests every morning. I’m sure the Caribbean folks love the comparison to Asian hospitality (sarcasm alert), but I mean it as a compliment that service here rivalled our stays at the ShangriLa and Four Seasons in Asia.

Geremi and Eduardo at the beach/pool, man we are already missing you guys. Thanks for all the care while we were there.

A few considerations. We knew it was hurricane season going in so our expectations were managed. The resort was quite sparse and it was never an issue finding a good spot by the pool or a beach. I’d expect that they’re able to keep their service standards up during busy season though. If you’re prepared to shell out $$$$ during high season, I say go for it.

The beach with all the seaweed issues, smelled like a sewer, despite their best efforts to clean up daily. No way my kids were getting in with all the slime. I can confirm that we have been to the DR during the month of March and the beachfront was radically different than in September. In fact in March, we spent every single day in the ocean and barely in the pool. On a less smelly day, I did enjoy a day of lounging at the beach. We managed to kayak for an hour. One experience that was less than ideal was my husband and 6 year old being handed two paddles and three life jackets to cart from the beach rental place to shore. While the walk was short (and hot!), it would’ve been nice to have gotten some assistance with getting into the kayak. We were literally their only customers and staff stayed in the shaded rental area, watching us struggle with a kayak with the kids. So big nope, we did not repeat that experience.

Another day, it rained all day but staff was quick to organize games, activities, and a movie indoors. It would’ve been nice to have the teen zone open on that rainy Thursday,, but they were only open from about 2 PM onwards.

Our kids enjoyed the waterslides for about a day and a half. We have lounging children and they eventually gave up on climbing the stairs just to go down the slides. If your children are more industrious than mine, the waterpark was fantastic and they will love it. I’ll also mention that there’s a lot of foliage at the waterpark/lazy river area. Mosquitoes love my sweet blood so if there’s one place that you should be slathering on the bug spray, it would be there. Otherwise mosquitoes were not a problem on the property.

I’m sure a lot of people enjoy the show at the blind butcher, but I personally found it gimmicky. That one rainy Thursday also made me wish that spa prices were more reasonable. First time I’ve ever been in a resort and not stepped foot in the spa. My Asian gene was fully activated when I saw that they were wanting near US$350 for an 80 minute massage. I thought I can get two services for that price back home. For reference you can go to the Fairmont at a major Canadian city and a 90 minute massage costs around C$250. Would’ve been nice to have spa promotions during low season.

Finally, what can I say about the timeshare folks? They are so conveniently located right outside Mercado where they can seduce you with free gifts as you come out in a food coma. Thanks to Google translate, a simple sentence of “ves mis hijos, no tengo dinero para timeshare, no aruines mis vacaciones” kept them away from me. Can’t say the same for my husband who looks far more approachable than me. I was vastly amused watching him run away from them.

Overall, I’m generally not a fan of repeating resorts because there’s too much to explore in this world but I would 100% consider returning to this one.

Beautiful resort perfect for families

We had a wonderful vacation! Everything was clean, beautiful, and the staff were all so friendly and helpful! The coffee shop was delicious and all the staff were wonderful!
I would like to leave a special note about the kids club! Wow! They were all phenomenal! Our kids begged to go every day! So many activities and the staff were so friendly, especially Nani and Mariel! They made us and our kids feel so welcome! I would come back in a heartbeat for this reason! My husband and I got a break and the kids were just as happy and safe!
Until next time!

Hyatt remains top resort

The hyatt ziva remains one of the top resorts in Punta Cana. I loved the culinary experience at this resort! Fresh flavorful ingredients and a variety of cuisine you wont find anywhere else. The staff here try so hard to provide top notch service! Luis at chinola and Luis at the buffet took good care of us along with Wander at the swim up bar (always had a smile on his face). We also enjoyed the blind butcher dining experience and the water park. You can feel Playa resorts "service from the heart" at this resort!

The best family vacation I could ask for!

Just returned from another wonderful week at Ziva Cap Cana with my family of five. (Kids are 6, 4, and 1.) This wasn’t our first trip here and it definitely won’t be our last! Here are some tips/highlights:

The kids club/babysitting for the Littles is absolutely WONDERFUL! Aside from the daily activities (pizza making, cupcake decorating, bracelet making, magic show, video games, etc.) the sitters themselves are extremely attentive, fair, and kind.

Every night I would drop my 3 kids off around 6p and my husband and I would go to Zilara for drinks, dinner, and whatever else was going on. We’d pick up our kids around 9pm after they had eaten dinner, watched a movie/ seen a show with the kids club. Two sitters in particularly are absolutely wonderful: Yaya and Nanee. The are both so sweet and are truly the reason why we return to this resort as often as we do.

Yes we have to pay for the baby (kids 4 and up are free) but a date night at home including a sitter, dinner and uber would cost us more than the hourly sitting rate for her so we find it worth it. Also I’m a typically helicopter mom who doesn’t trust most people with her kids. For me to trust them says more than I can type.

The food at the resort was excellent. No sicknesses over here, and in fact our stomachs are usually better when we’re in DR than when we’re home. That was the case this time.

Some food we loved:
Journeys- butter shrimp
Brandos- beef tenderloin
Mercado- breakfast burrito and crepes
Noodle- shrimp risotto and pesto gnocchi
Tempest- Mongolian wok
Navigator- sancocho, smash burger, pizza

Lastly a few workers I’d love to highlight:

Elvis is our preferred butler every visit. He goes above and beyond. My daughter said she loved chocolate covered strawberries and he surprised her with them a few nights.

George, the manager in the buffet, is so friendly and helpful. He made my husband incredible lunches that could feet a king. My kids looked forward to finding him in the buffet every morning.

Danelo in the buffet who makes the breakfast burritos is an incredible chef.

Dieby in the club pool bar can make a delicious tasting wanna be Paloma drink (since they don’t have grapefruit juice.)

And most importantly Yaya in the kids club. Without her my husband and I would be spending all day everyday chasing our kids. Instead we get to have fun with them all day then get our much needed date time at night.

Looking forward to our next visit to the resort and hope this helps others with Littles!

Some of the best service I've experienced

Extremely pleased with this particular establishment. I have never been to a hotel and felt like I needed to spend all my time there, but at this hotel I felt that. I believe it is down to the staff who were just amazing throughout this trip. A big shout out to Fraudicio, who was simply the best at what he does. I will miss this place until I visit again!

Best hotel in the Dominican Republic

If you ask my daughter what hotel she wants to stay at in the Dominican Republic, she’ll always say: “the one with the best kids club!” — Yup, Hyatt Ziva.

What a wonderful surprise when we arrived and saw that Yaya is still there working! Bella was so excited to see her again, and Yaya was just as happy to see Bella. Truly, the best kids club ever.

What we love the most about their kids club is that every day they have fun activities all around the hotel — it’s not just about keeping the kids inside four walls all day. They explore, play, and even go to the night shows as a group, which Bella absolutely loves!

We were also so happy to see Soraya still working at Bosque Lounge — she’s amazing!

During this trip, we met so many incredible people who go above and beyond every single day. A special shoutout to Angelo, Nacho, and Marco, the talented mixologists who shared their drink knowledge with us — we even took a Gin & Tonic and Margarita class!

One day we wanted Chicharrón and Tostones and our butler Fraudicio Franco made it Happen!! ❤️

Everyone was exceptional. We’re already looking forward to our next visit! 🌴✨

Great visit to Ziva Cap Cana

Quick summary: This was a great resort to visit, but if you are spending a lot of time in the ocean, there was a lot of sargassum.

We spent three nights here and absolutely loved it. The facilities were great and were well maintained. Check in was easy and everyone welcomed us. I can’t say enough about how great the staff was regardless of their job. They were friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay a great one.

Our 12YO and 9YO enjoyed the waterpark and all of us enjoyed the countless laps on the lazy river.

The food felt like a step up from Beaches. While I would say overall the food was very good, some was great and some was decent. Lots of fresh options and plenty to choose from.

Most of the time we were at the main pool with the swim up bar. Again, the staff was great and there were plenty of lounge chairs available.

Perhaps the best part was that we felt like we had the place almost to ourselves. We had our choice of chairs by the pool even when we arrived mid-morning and the only time we waited for dinner was at noodle and thread. We never felt crowded and felt like we could pretty much do what we wanted when we wanted.

The one drawback was the sargassum. While you could see the clear water in the distance, by the beach the water was murky due to all the sargassum. It was also piled up on the beach and you had to work your way around it to get to the water. (We didn’t see any effort being made to clear the beach while we were there)

Overall, we had a great visit and would definitely return. If your number one priority is the beach and the ocean, you may want to check on the conditions first.

Great trip to Cap Cana

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana is as advertised. Best all-inclusive our family has visited. Amazing staff, great food and drinks, wonderful pools and water park. Beach sand is nice, ocean water not the best, but you are there for everything else honestly. Convenient to Punta Cana airport (15-20 mins) making this an easy trip for families.

Another great trip to Hyatt ziva

Second year in a row to Hyatt zova, this time with friends. Again, overall great experience. Food was great, so we're the drinks and everything about the property. The beach water was muddy as the time but not something the resort could control. Water park is great and so is the fact that adults can also go into Hyatt zilara restaurants.

I will come back for sure!

Our family love all-inclusive resorts and have been enjoying them for the past eight years. Hyatt Ziva consistently ranks in my top three — it's far superior to Dreams or Hilton in many aspects. From food quality and staff professionalism to cleanliness, décor, and both adult and kids’ events — everything is top-notch.

This resort is also very accommodating for vegans and guests with food allergies. They have a dedicated section in the buffet for vegan dishes, and menus are clearly labeled for vegan, gluten-free, and nut-containing items. You’ll rarely see peanut products, and the staff is well-trained in preventing cross-contamination.

For parents: the staff is incredibly kind and patient with children. They allowed kids to order for themselves patiently.
To the hotel management: your team is outstanding. It’s clear they love what they do, and it shows in the level of service they provide. You’re fortunate to have such hardworking, dedicated staff who go above and beyond to ensure guests have a flawless experience.

Special thanks to Isabel, who kindly escorted us to the Kids Club on that heavy rainy day.
To the front desk staff at the buffet—thank you for helping me locate my missing 44 yo child (husband)!
To all the lifeguards at the kids' water park—you are true heroes, always keeping an eye on the little ones while their parents are on the phone.
And to the entire Kids Club team ( especially, Janahira)—thank you for your incredible patience and the way you treat every child as if they were your own.

Thanks to water sports team- Ricardo and Rodolfo. You guys are the best and energetic.

We still have two more days left on this vacation, and I’m already thinking about coming back. I would absolutely return here again!
