Disappointed by Disruptions Despite High Expectations

Overall rating 1 and poor

Overpriced stay with major disruptions—fire alarms at 2 & 3 AM, loud guests throwing balcony chairs in the pool, and no hand soap. Disappointed, and no resolution from the hotel after multiple attempts to resolve.

Would Stay Again

Read this review...
We do not prefer all-inclusive, but as Marriott Rewards members, we decided on the Hideaway.
NOTE: Marriott people - they are no "pluses" as a Marriott person - only welcome points.

The hotel property and room are definitely as advertised. Modern, clean, and spacious. The view of the Caribbean Sea is gorgeous - the hotel has a great location. We had a swim-out room and absolutely LOVED it. We felt like we had our only little pool, but then we were able to easily swim over to the swim-up bar and grab drinks.

Highlights:
1. The fridge is stacked with water and Red Stripes daily (max of four of each per day).

2. There are about five different outdoor and inside bars to pop into with different views, vibes, and spirits.

3. The gym is underused, which made getting a work out in easy.

Concerns:
1. At the swim-up bar, they try to generate entertainment with "adult games" (e.g. Name that Song, Karaoke). When you are trying to decompress at the pool, it can feel chaotic. I understand that they are attempting to draw people to the bar, but it can be too much at times.

2. Our biggest problem was the absolute impossibility of getting a reservation at the various restaurants on the property. All dinners require a reservation with the exception of the buffet. You have to make reservations using the Royalton app. You can only book two days in advance. It appears that people get up early just to make reservations. We were only able to make one reservation in the five days we were there, and eventually we did not even go to it because we didn't really want the cuisine of that particular restaurant. When the staff came around to check-in with how our stay was going, we shared this concern. They asked which restaurant we really wanted a rese at, and we shared the steakhouse. They did get us a reservation but at 9:30pm. Needless to say, we passed on the late night dinner. Oddly enough, when you walk by the restaurants, they look empty. We stayed at a Royalton in Cancun and no reservations were required, I would rather have a drink and wait, then not be able to experience the restaurant at all.

3. Little inconveniences - we love to have robes in our room, so I always put in a special request for them. When we checked in, they informed us robes would be coming. We did not receive the robes until the next day. Additionally, our very first day, I went to grab pool towels, and there were NONE left. As a matter of fact, the towel shed was unmanned. When we finally saw someone at the shed, my husband went to grab some towels, and one of the employees (the lifeguard) was agitated by my husband asking for the towels (maybe he had already been asked by other guests), and said in an aggressive manner, "There are not towels, man." They ended up exchanging words. There was a red-shirt security guard that witnessed the exchange. She later tracked us down and made sure we were provided towels. (After the exchange, we called the front desk and didn't tell them about the lifeguard but did request pool towels, which they said they do not deliver to the room. BUT they ended up delivering pool towels to us anyway). We were covered on pool towels for the week.

4. Management: Be aware that little details matter. The rods on all three sets of our curtains (to patio and curtains to spilt bathroom from sleeping quarters) were broken, so you had to pull from the curtain itself.

Overall, I would recommend the hotel.

Expect less. Even that's too much!

I booked this hotel based on youtube videos recommendations....well they must be paying them because this is the absolute worst resort I have ever stayed in. EVERYTHING is outdated, the rooms smell, the halls smell, the food is horrible, the fruit taste old. Most of the women employees are racially biased. And the makeshift Beach is a joke, the grounds are not kept up, it's like they don't even care, I will never be back this property or Jamaica there are too many other places in this country to visit than to waste money on a place that doesn't care to have or keep your business

Poor customer service

I’m experiencing poor customer service even before my wife and I have arrived. We are due to stay for 2 weeks beginning the end of September. I have sent 2 emails to the hotel for information and I’ve been ignored. NOT A GOOD START!!

Mixed feelings

Most of the staff is very respectful and nice. The first night of stay they gave me the wrong room on top of it being very dirty. They did fix that and correct my room. After I fell off their slippery bud and broke my toe, certain members of the team lied on my incident report several times and after I reported it, they never did anything else. However the diamond collection team or whoever the vacation package is… did send me an apology and gift card. The unprofessionalism in management whoever is very questionable. Other than that, they were an okay resort. I wouldn’t go to that particular resort again.

Always out of something ….so I’m out.

We came for a wedding, our room was nice, the check in process is a little dated being given clipboard and asked to fill out paperwork could’ve been signed and done prior to arrival but it was’nt horrible. Most of the staff was nice chickpea and Tameka at the bar were awesome. I liked the beach no complaints there my issue was they were always out of things. It felt like because it was not peak season our stay wasn’t important. They would run out of alcohol, towels, food, ice cream you name it. We made a reservation at 9:30 for the steakhouse the only option was a ribeye every other meat out we asked to buy a lobster they told us no it’s too late. We were told by the head chef don’t book such a late reservation come back Monday…on Monday they still were out of brisket and everything else. They cleaned our room left us with no towels we had to call for them they came 1.5 later semi wet like they were completely dry. The food in the buffet was so boring and repetitive Jamaican night was awesome but other nights was the same food everyday lunch and dinner. Staying on the adult side is cool but food wise it’s terrible because the food truck and food shack is on the other side they set up a grill but it’s not everyday so some days the option is the buffet. Oh the sports bar is always out of items and the portions for all of the restaurants are so small. You order ribs you get a chopped up rib end not a rack. Off-season or peak season the experience should be the same and it wasn’t I don’t think I’ll ever return.

Fitness team

Kadijah was amazing with the morning aerobics class at hideaway! Everyone enjoyed themselves. I will definitely take another class with her. My arms and Legs were burning after the class. I wasn’t expecting the the class to be fun and an actual workout! Kadijah you did that!

Very nice quiet spot not too far from 7 mile beach which is unbelievable

Good stay overall. Because it is low season, despite what the website said about all restaurants being opened, only one restaurant was opened for a la carte dinners every night making it difficult to get reservations. Other than that the resort and staff was great.

Kendra was great / helping us coordinate our stay. Thank you so much to you and your team Kendra !

A Dream and a Nightmare

We decided to go here for our 25th anniversary vow renewal I am by no means a travel “princess” I have traveled to many other islands and destinations, and I know not everything is always perfect. But when the comfort of your guest is disrupted daily then that is a real problem. I will start with the good: The hotel helped with a bad reservation by giving an upgrade, the butlers were good, the diamond club experience was ok, the wedding team was spectacular. Here is the bad that basically overshadowed the good. It was all my guest could talk about afterwards. It started with a fire alarm going off all night and all day for 4 straight days at the Hideaway. It was hard for my guest to sleep through. We (the bride and groom) went through two days with no power therefore there was no air, and another of our guest who paid well over $5,000 to stay in the presidential suite went through a day and half with no water. They actually had no running water the day they were set to check out. I felt embarrassed and humiliated. Here I brought 11 family members and friends to a place where they had to suffer through slum lord issues. I will continue to tell this story on all travel boards in hopes that people will avoid this place. It’s really a shame this place could be awesome if the infrastructure did not suck!

Review of Royalton Negril

With this being the second resort of the franchise that I have stayed at, by far the least. The long wait in restaurants for your dinner was very disappointing. However, the French restaurant was the best of all. Also, we had to request washcloths Every day. Still cannot figure that one out. The grounds were well-kept. My room with a swim-up was very peaceful, which is what kept me calm!!

The best bulter ever, Okeen (Greatness). Exceptional in all that he did.

Amazing resort

Best time here at royalton Regril. Everything was perfect. From the food to the amazing staff. Kemar, kenisha, Kenneth our butler’s and Shimmar the pool butler was honestly the most friendliest and made our holiday. Absolute credit to this hotel. Professional, funny and friendly hospitality. Loved it all. Thank you all so much. We will be returning in December:)

Disappointing second visit

Disappointing Second Visit
My second visit to the Hideaway at Royalton Negril was very disappointing, as the standards have dropped significantly since my last stay.
We experienced several issues, including:
* The food was often cold.
* The condition of the rooms was poor.
* There was a lack of a la carte restaurants.
If it were not for the amazing Vibe Team, our trip would have been a complete wash. Baby Face and the rest of the team were incredibly welcoming and entertaining. A big thank you to all the beautiful Jamaican staff—you are amazing.

Do Not Book This Resort - Spend Your Money at Another Resort

From checkin to checkout, this was the WORST Resort I have ever been too. The Front Lobby on the Hideaway side is so run down and dirty, I knew as soon as we got there, our vacation was not going to be a good one. Our room was filthy dirty, ants, mold in the shower and toilet area, hair from previous guests. The wash clothes and towels are dirty. The food is horrible except for the jerk chicken at the Hideaway pool. If you do decide to book here, do not get the Diamond Club because it is not worth the money. Our two butlers were HORRIBLE. This place is run down and dirty. Oh yeah, if your room is in BLDG 8, beware of the cats that roam the building. I believe the cats have their own room in BLDG 8. Don’t waste your time or money.

The hotel is good. The service is not good.

The hotel is lovely. It’s nicely decorated and not too big. The food was pretty good for an all-inclusive. Nice location with a calm beach.

However, the service wasn’t good at all, with a few exceptions. We had butler service and our butlers regularly didn’t complete the tasks we asked them to do. The hotel basically tricked us into visiting the concierge for a welcome gift, which ended up being a high-pressure invite to a timeshare sales pitch. The concierge also promised several things that never happened. The restaurants were extremely hard to get reservations. We witnessed a hotel guest fully threaten both hotel staff and other guests with beating them up and the hotel seeming took no steps to get security involved for at least an hour. Restaurants seemed to staff new or uninformed waitstaff, which caused a lot of confusion. And our hotel thermostat read 32C the entire trip (about 90F), yet it was freezing in our room the entire time. When we asked maintenance to check it out, we were told there was nothing wrong and if we didn’t like the temp, just turn the A/C off.

On the plus side, the drinks were good, the sun was shining, and the jerk chicken shack was amazing.

Well deserved break in Jamaica

This is our first time in Jamaica and third time in a Royalton Hotel. Previous to this our experience has been in St. Lucia, Royalton. Because of this we are able to compare. So the hotel many of the same comparisons we were used to. However we felt that there was things that let it down.
We found the staff work very hard to ensure that we were happy and our needs met. As with all the Royaltons; they are in need of a refurbishment as they are looking tired. Our room in Jamaica was comfortable but things like dirty bedside rug was off putting, however it was forgiven as an oversight as the bedroom floor was clean throughout inclusive of the shower & balcony. We found the bed comfortable and the bed dressed well and very clean. Our dining room experience in Jamaica was ok as the staff was always welcoming, polite and efficient. The meals were authentic and on the first, second and third night it felt there was plenty on offer but this diminished quickly due to repetitiveness and limited choices as it was the same most nights. Which was no comparison to Royalton St. Lucia where the culinary experience was varied and multiple selection of meat, on different nights of the week including whole platters of baked fish, meats etc, which meant that you did not have to depend on the specialist bookings. Some of the dining seating was damaged especially the soft benches which meant at times make you feel uncomfortable. The wines and beer at the restaurant were very good. The dining staff tried to get your individual request for drinks right. The coffee parlour is a good bonus for all the Royaltons as they serve a good selection of ice cream, cakes, biscuits & a limited selection of sandwiches. However, the coffee offering lacked taste and strength, given the island of Jamaica produces its own coffee, the offering of coffee was a big downfall. The entertainment was no comparison to St. Lucia, however the team worked hard and tried to offer entertainment, something for everyone.
The hotel is in a good spot in Negril overlooking beautiful sea views. The grounds are well maintained and we enjoyed the clear natural waters which felt safe to swim in daily. Overall we enjoyed Jamaica and would return, we felt the things mentioned are all things that could be worked on to improve the experience. Thank you to all the staff and management that work tirelessly to make our holiday great.

Of 4 stays here the worst by far…

This was our 4th trip to the hideaway section of the resort and this trip was a special one myself and my partner were finally getting married and brought 12 family members with us.

6 weeks before we arrived we were alerted by our tour operator TUI that renovations were taking place at the hotel - for context this trip and our wedding had been booked for 18months.

This was our worst stay at this hotel by a mile. The only thing that made this stay great was our wedding day and the frontline staff who are amazing and can’t do enough for you.

To mention a few - hideaway pool bar - Chickpea (Chana) and Tameka.
Our butlers - Dwight and Okeen
Wedding co ordinator - Shantal
Lobby bar - Shantel
Hideaway lounge - Violet
Sports bar - Tiffany
Martini mix - Natasha and romaine.
The whole vibe team - but to shout out a few… Prince, baby face, Natasha, Starfire, baby dragon
DJs who brought the vibes - Tito and Dj Smart

Everything else was a shambles - 1 à la carte restaurant open a night, bookings available at 9.30 for restaurants when we had 3 children under 5 in our party, a burst pipe with water leaking through the ceiling in our room whilst trying to get ready for my wedding!!! The list goes on…

On the 6th night of my 14 night stay finally managed to get a restaurant booking at a time that was suitable for my party of 14. It was 20mins from the first person receiving their main course until the last person received theirs… even then 80% of our groups food was still cold.

Restaurants not having items on the menu, bars running out of sprite, one day a bottle of spirit being available to the next day not being available.

When the leak in our ceiling was ‘fixed’ on our first day of marriage we entered the room an hour later to find the ceiling was already cracking again and watched plaster fall away from the ceiling in front of our eyes.

There was toilet doors without locks in common areas, limited entertainment on the adults only side. No beach parties as previously experienced on our previous 3 stays.

The whole thing was embarrassing - we had chosen this resort due to having 3 brilliant stays before hand - this was sub par and the way our concerns and complaints were handled was insulting and shocking.

Non disclosure agreements shoved in our faces in exchange for pathetic attempts at compensation.

As poor as our experience was - the staff really make this hotel.

Management need to have a serious look at how they running this place. If you can’t offer the advertised services and amenities whilst renovations take place the hotel needs to close rather than providing guests paying for a 5star stay are receiving 2 star services and facilities currently.

The ROYAL is missing from the Royalton

The Royal is missing from the Royalton. We were sold a Luxury Resort and got a Budget Property. The staff were excellent and most issues are probably corporate.
We arrived at the resort after a long day of traveling to be ushered into a dated, worn down lobby with no signage at all. I actually questioned if we were at the correct resort. The room we purchased was sold as a Luxury - Ocean View Junior suite. The room we were given was worn down and lacking. There was missing hardware, broken fixtures, questionable wiring to light switches (didn’t always work), missing smoke detector, broken glass on the patio door, a tv so crooked we had to prop things under it so we could watch it, room phone never worked, etc. While at the resort the food was simply OK and only ONE restaurant was open each night so it was nearly impossible to get reservations. The app didn’t work most of the time so we had to spend way too much time trying to make said reservations. Once you actually made it to dinner they always started off with which dishes on the limited menu were not available. Not to mention the constant push to listen to the vacation club sales pitch, make appointments at the spa, book and excursion etc. They were constantly trying to sell us something. I could keep going but I think I made my point. We made the best of our week at the Royalton but will not be visiting their property again

Hideaway Royalton Negril Adults Only All Inclusive

This was my fiancé’s and I first time ever being in Jamaica. We were celebrating his birthday for six days out here. The whole time being here was very welcoming, fun and the service is phenomenal. Shevelle from Guest Services was so helpful, kind, loving and SUPER amazing. She helped plan and coordinate my husbands room decor surprise. Shevelle even helped me get a reservation for a dinner when reservations were filled up. Shevelle thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for your hospitality. Another person, I would love to say thank you too is Tamika. She works at the swim up bar on the Building 8 side. Her energy was so bubbly, fun and exciting. Both Tamika and Shevelle felt like home being away from home. Thank you ladies so much for everything and Hideaway thank you for everything as well.
