Beautiful, Relaxing Resort

We are Bahia Principe Privilege Club members, and this is the first time visiting the Bahia Principe Grand Samana. Some aspects from other reviews of this resort are pretty accurate (limited nightlife, small resort, etc.), but if you are looking for the most beautiful and relaxing setting, this is the place for you.

The resort is small (only one pool and two bars - lobby and pool, limited restaurants), but it is the most beautiful Bahia resort we have stayed at (we have visited Punta Cana and La Romana in the DR, Runaway Bay in Jamaica, and Tulum in Mexico). The views from our room and anywhere in the resort are incredible. The beach is small, but there were plenty of cabanas available throughout the day.

There is limited a la carte dining available (only a few nights per week), but the buffet had plenty of variety, and all of the food was really good. Service throughout the resort was top notch - we saw the same staff throughout the week.

Nightlife was limited to singers in the lobby every night, and the show ended at 10 pm. Again, if you are seeking a boisterous nightlife, this is not the resort. The singers and bands were all excellent.

It is a 2.5 hour ride from the Santo Domingo airport to the resort on 2-way roads. You get a good feel for the variety of landscape on the island, but it makes for a long travel day.

Beautiful views, substandard rooms

The service at Bahia Principe Grand Samana was genuinely great — the staff were friendly and attentive, and the oceanfront view from my room was truly beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end.

The room itself had a strong chemical odor so overwhelming that I had to take Benadryl at bedtime after breaking out in a rash. The bathroom desperately needs major improvements — it felt far below even basic hostel standards. Caulk was visibly holding together the dated jacuzzi tub, there was visible dirt inside the old jacuzzi jets, and I counted at least seven long, dark hairs left behind (which were definitely not mine).

The food was also disappointing — bland and uninspired, which was surprising given the otherwise hospitable service environment.

In short, the beautiful ocean view could not make up for the poor room quality and underwhelming dining experience. With significant renovations, this could be a lovely property, but in its current state, I would not return.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Solo Escape to Paradise – Exactly What I Needed

Traveling solo to this resort in Samaná was one of the best decisions I’ve made. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel safe, seen, and entirely at ease. Their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality created a welcoming environment that instantly felt like home.

My room was a peaceful haven, but the *view* — absolutely breathtaking. From my private balcony, I had an unobstructed view of the ocean, and every morning began with the gentle sound of waves and soft Caribbean breezes. I spent hours sitting there, watching the water and listening to the tide roll in — it was healing in every sense.

Dining solo never felt awkward here; the staff made sure I was always comfortable, and the serene setting made every meal feel special. There was a calm rhythm to everything that allowed me to savor the moment truly.

I treated myself to a massage and pedicure at the spa. The space was serene, and I left the spa feeling both pampered and rebalanced.

What I loved most about this place was the atmosphere — tranquil, intimate, and homelike. It was the perfect place to disconnect from the noise of daily life and reconnect with myself. Whether I was journaling by the ocean, reading on my balcony, or swimming in the ocean, everything about this trip nourished my spirit.

If you're a solo traveler looking for peace, beauty, and heartfelt hospitality, this resort is a slice of heaven. I came here alone, but I left feeling deeply cared for — and completely renewed. I am grateful to have had this experience and appreciate every one of the staff.

I am already planning my return.

Like a Dream

In January i passed by this Hotel and told myself i will come stay here! And i did with my son. What a beautiful stay relax pleasant it was fantastic! Great solo performance every night by the hotel lobby. Choices of meals were very good and the restaurant over looking the Bay/Sea was breath taken 😍😍😍

Breathtaking private beach, amazing experience, great staff, amazing food. Overall, it was awesome. Loved the live music at night.

Beautiful place, bad food.

The site is beautiful. The rooms are very clean with amazing balcony views. The water at the beach is very clear and the beach is beautiful sand (stay away from the stray dogs as they have ticks)…

The food was terrible except if you can get in to an à la carte restaurant (good luck with that) then it is quite good.

If i may suggest, in case the hotel reads this, don’t serve the same food in the small buffet every day for lunch and diner. A bit of variety is expected. Go ahead and spend a bit of money for guacamole and salsa with the nacho chips not just the melted cheese whiz that sits there for hours on end and forms a crust…. Add a bit of vegetables to the pizza or some type of variety…. Vegetables are cooked after a few minutes of steaming not 30 minutes of boiling…. Is the head chef over 17? I mean come on…. At breakfast, can we have a variety of good fruits without paying the chef extra?

Instead of having lots of employees looking at their phones most of the day add a person to the bar or in the kitchen where they could be of help.

All in all I had a bad experience other than the beautiful site and nice room.
