September Sunshine!

Beautiful resort! Love the adults-only! Great service! Great nightly entertainment.

My only downfall is the off-site restaurant, and the buffet option is closed during the days the specialty restaurants are open. I really wish there was a better way to get to Bella, the Italian restaurant, instead of leaving the property and walking up a hill.

Second honeymoon, First-Class letdown

To be clear, this was our second honeymoon, so a special holiday.

On check in we were pushily offered a room upgrade which we declined after already paying 1750usd, the first room we were given had nowhere to sit outside, even though it stated on the website there was a "communal sitting area" when we asked at reception we were told this is the pool area! Other rooms of this rate had chairs and a table outside their door (400's rooms), the room we were given (room 500 something, can't remember exact number) didn't have this, after entering the room and seeing there was no seating in the room we could even take outside we returned to reception and paid the $200usd for the upgrade. We first asked if we could have a room with the seats outside on the communal terrace we were told this wasn't an option and the only way to get seating was to upgrade to a suite. Seeing as the hotel is not at capacity I don't see why we couldn't have been given one of the other rooms with the communal seats, instead of paying for an upgraded room.

The website also states that bathrobes would be provided in the upgraded room but at no point during our 10 days were they available.

Food! How can an all inclusive resort close a restaurant 3 nights a week?! Also the sushi bar is closed one day a week, the other restaurants only open on certain nights too. No prior warning during booking, check-in or even on the day was given that out of season this will happen, when we spoke to reception and informed them that it states on the website everything is open 7 days a week they said "yes the website is wrong" oh great, you're getting people booking here under false pretences and delivering half of the service at full prices. As we hadn't booked the other restaurants on the night the buffet was closed we had to go outside to eat and again, pay extra money. This is certainly not how an all inclusive hotel should be. If prior notice was given, especially at the time of booking we would have been prepared for this unexpected expense, after spending almost 2000usd on the hotel (including the room "upgrade" this is not what we were expecting to do. The service advertised was certainly not the service received.

The choice of food was very repetitive too, no theme nights, undercooked raw beef served to my husband from the buffet (we do have pictures of this available) desserts were a choice of maybe 6 different cakes, with around 10 available of each. No ice cream, no pastries. Just cake. Not good for people with gluten intolerance.

Drink, the quality and choice of the drinks was good, but having to wait until 11am for a bar to open is ridiculous, and closing the bar at 11pm is the worst "all inclusive" drinks I've encountered in my entire life. Having stayed in all inclusive hotels in Mexico before there's always been a late bar open until around 3/4am even in the off season. There's not even an option to pay for drinks after 11pm.

The website also states that all taxes are included when booking direct (which is what we did) only to be told we needed to pay an environmental tax on arrival, again we have no issue paying this but maybe make the website clearer that this tax is NOT included in the price.

The beach, we visited and found broken glass, plastic and so many cigarette ends. We're in the carribean and we didn't visit the beach due to how disgusting it was.

The upgraded room was good, but due to the above corridor being directly above the room you'd be woken up by carts rolling early in the morning, or people walking in heels late at night.

Only saving grace for this hotel is the staff, especially Jose from the sushi bar who really goes above and beyond.

I feel this has been a complete letdown of a hotel and holiday (our second honeymoon), and believe compensation should be given for the missing services, having to eat out, and for having to pay for an upgrade due to the misleading wording on the website stating we had a communal seating area!

Loved everything about it!!

We went as a group of 9 cousins and had such a great time! When we first arrived on a Sunday evening it felt a little quiet and lacking atmosphere, but as the days went on the vibe improved so much. The facilities were exactly what we needed, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

The location of the resort is perfect, especially if you’re planning a night out on the strip. The only small downside is that the beach isn’t the best, but the pool area is stunning, so we honestly didn’t miss it too much.

A special shout-out to the Entertainment Team, especially Katia – she was amazing and really made us feel at home. The activities were so much fun, with the foam party being an absolute highlight.

We had an unforgettable trip and would definitely recommend this resort to friends and family. Can’t wait to return!

I wish I was still there! 5+*

Where do I begin? This resort is a stones throw away from Playa Del Carmen’s 5th Ave. Tucked away on a quiet street and with boats as its backdrop to the ocean. The architecture of this hotel is beautifully elegant and almost European.
The rooms are so spacious. We had a junior suite and it was amazing. All amenities you need in the room along with beautiful archways and columns.
Our room was cleaned everyday meticulously. Our bar fridge was overflowing with water, beer and soda. Towels were plentiful. There is nothing bad to say about the rooms or maid service.
The food…well let me just say I won’t be stepping on my bathroom scale anytime soon. The food was amazing. From the traditional chilaquiles in red or green sauce for breakfast to the delicious mole chicken for lunch you will not leave hungry. There was always plenty of meat, chicken and fish to choose from, along with hamburgers. Vegans will have no issues here with the variety of veggies and beans. The fruit was always perfect. The cheeses, sushi and cold salads were also superb! The desserts…I am having withdrawals. Soooooooo good! The chefs and kitchen staff really perfect any dish they make.
The steak house, Mexican and Italian restaurants were all very good as well!!
The pool is beautiful. The only issue was the pool is not a graduated deepness. The whole pool is 4’8”. I am shorter than that so I had to sit on the ledge. I am
Not a great swimmer. The foam party is Saturday and Wednesday at 2 pm and it is a blast! There is also a pizza bar by the pool. The pool bar staff is amazing. You never have to leave your seats. They are always coming around and will bring you food as well! Katia the animación girl is so amazing. She remembers everyone’s name and makes you feel like you’ve known her forever. Lots of fun stuff happening at the pool.
We never fought for chairs at the pool. They do have a rule of no saving chairs before 8 am. It is low season now so we never worried. Towels are always readily available as well. The beach is the only downfall. It’s really non existent. But you can walk down to another beach. It’s not far.
There is a coffee shop and also a snack room which has cut up fruit and veggies with dips, canned drinks, sandwiches, cookies and nuts. Very convenient self serve if you have an early or late flight or even an early excursion booked.
Shows were good and everyone had a lot of fun at night in the lobby.
Now I have to talk about what makes this resort a true 5 star experience. The staff. Every single one of them are amazing. They go above and beyond for every single guest. They greet you with their hand to their heart and say hello. We met amazing staff here and I wish I could remember all your names but here are some of the stand out staff we encountered.
Buffet: Rutilio, Brayant, Abraham, Jose Luis and Minerva you all were so amazing and we really appreciate you. Along with everyone else in the buffet from the hosts to the kitchen staff. Really amazing team.
Next in the Italian and Mexican, Rafael and Daniel (Manolo!!!) Amazing service every single time! Professional and courteous and always with a smile.
Miguel at the pool bar along with all the other bartenders pumping out drinks with a smile and having fun doing it!
Ricardo at the front desk along with the rest of the front desk team were always willing to help out happily! The security guards and bell boys were so kind and helpful. Again always with a smile and a hand to the heart with a greeting.
I have been to many many many resorts. This resort by far has blown them all out of the water. I’ll return to Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen and I will recommend it to everyone. You can have a nice resort with all the bells and whistles but if the staff is not good it could ruin your experience. This resort is perfect because the staff are amazing. They take their jobs seriously and it shows. Muchas gracias por todos amigos y amigas!!! Hasta la próxima!!

Amazing

Our home away from home for the past 15 yrs! It never disappoints! So great to be greeted by Resort staff that has become family to us! Freddy, Aaron, Gabriel, Jamie, Jose, Pablo, Jeus, Miquel, Sebastian, Jorge and Mariano.
It’s a beautiful smaller resort only 2 blocks from 5th Ave, the beach has eroded away 😢 but the 2 pools are nice. Rooms are nice and clean. If I have to say anything negative it would be the menus/food choices at Bella’s and Zarapes, although what they have is good. Mariano makes a great omelette 😋. This is day 4 of 7 so I will continue with more at end of vacation.

Great hotel with minimal beach.

This hotel has a great location if you want to have options for shopping, tours and night life. We are not big beach people so the lack of beach and water to swim in was not an issue and we knew by other reviews. The pools are clean and well kept. There are a few too many cabanas to rent could take out half and add more chairs since they are expensive to rent. Since it was so quiet no issues finding chairs all day. The hotel is well kept and staff is very good at their jobs. El carts and sushi restaurant had great menus. Jaime was our buffet server most morning and lunch amazing service.
We have traveled a lot and this is one place we would return.
Warnings: once they cut your bands your access is done.
**Sunwing also misrepresents rooms we upgrade to ocean view and it was actually barely partial on busy street. So we upgrade to ocean front and was SO worth it. The hotel website is you better option to review room types to ensure you know what your getting

Great for a solo vacay

Great overall experience. This was my first all inclusive, so it was a learning experience. The food was great. I loved the options. The service was great and I'm grateful that staff made me feel welcomed. Overall great 1st experience for a solo vacay. I don't have many complaints as the trip was more about relaxing then being busy sight seeing. But I was suggested to watch the Sunrise at the beach and it honestly was the best advise.

Great Getaway for a Good Price

I stayed at this property two years ago (2023) and returned because my experience was so good. The staff are amazing - warm and welcoming. The food is wonderful especially the Mexican and Italian restaurants. The resort and the rooms are very clean and seem to be kept up well.

Please note that this is a smaller resort so the pool isn't so big you can get away from the noise, and the activities and food choices aren't as broad. But it is all adult so you also don't have children splashing you in the pool or crying at dinner.

Not great or as expected

Not exactly an all-inclusive resort
Lack of restaurant availability
Extra charge for certain alcohol and food (steak, shrimp, lobster)
No alcohol at all before 11AM
No smoking area and had to go out on the street
Insufficient AC in common areas

Very basic experience

Very basic hotel with basic amenities. No beach, outdated pool and hotel, rather complicated to book "premium" dinner reservations (only available certain days, must book before a cutoff, certain plates aren't included in the all-inclusive package...). No parking, limited staff help with bags...
On a positive note: Location is good overall, the buffet is fine, spacious room.

It was an inexpensive stay, so it is hard to demand more. However, next time we will certainly pay a bit more and go to a better place.

Wyndham Alltra Adults Only Exceeds Expectations

My first time in Playa Del Carmen and I decided to stay at the Wyndham Alltra Adults Only All-inclusive Resort.
The Staff: Every encounter with every staff member was excellent. They were all very polite, helpful and professional. Most spoke fluent English.
The Room: I had a standard, garden view room. It was basic, but very clean, with great housekeeping and a large Samsung TV with all major US TV Networks.
The Ala Carte Restaurants: Must be booked daily via the Concierge. ZARAPE had some of the best, most Authentic Mexican Cuisine I've ever had and great service. BELLA is Italian, with great Ambience and a choice of indoor or outdoor dinning. BRASAS is Mediterranean style, indoor dining, with excellent appetizers, in addition to great entrees. VENTANAS is the Buffet Restaurant, no reservations required and is one of the better All-Inclusive Buffet restaurants I've experienced.
ALCOHOL: Top Shelf, as in Heineken and Dos Equis all included.
THE GYM:Decent and has all you need.
THE POOLS: Very clean, great water temperature, a nice set up. Cabanas are cool and classy but are extra $$$
LOCATION: You cannot beat the location on Constitution Avenue. You are literally 2 Blocks away, from the best, bars, restaurants and shops in Playa Del Carmen. And being so close to nightlife, I was surprised how quiet it was sleeping.
HOTEL ENTERTAINMENT: Mostly in the Lobby Bar ever night, Sax Player's, Solo Singers and Guitarists and Kareoke. Also a nice Fire Show poolside.
TIPS: I tipped often, the staff work very hard and truly appreciated the tips Ieft.
CONCLUSION: You could pay more somewhere else and end up getting much less. There is not much of a beach, if you really need that. But overall it's a great bang $$$ for you buck.
