Tough to Recommend

An absolutely beautiful setting that was clouded with outdated facilities and terrible service. Very difficult to recommend.

Never again

The hotel is in a lovely area that's where the good bit ends !
Preferred club absolute total rip off there was no stopping anyone who were not preffered guests from using our beach/pool and lounge so exactly what did I pay for!! I have never stayed as a preferred guest anywhere and not have a butler, apparently you need to be in a swim up room so I offered to upgrade but was told there where none for my stay which was absolute rubbish as we saw many empty for the duration of our stay but in hind sight I am so glad I did not give them anymore of my money !

Food was mediocre apart from the Italian

Bar staff at beach bar ignorant you could be stood there 20 minutes before you got served it helped if you waved money in front of them !
I could go on but I am not wasting my time and effort

Last time we will go to a Secrets

couples vacation

It’s Okay

First and foremost the staff work really hard to make your staff enjoyable. For that reason I gave it 4 stars.

Check in area is quite small with limited seating so when they tell you to come back at 3:30 (not 3) for your room, you’ll be jammed up with everyone else. Check is slow and they send you over to the concierge desk where they basically sign you up for a vacation club presentation. I will say it’s not too high pressured so they don’t call and bother you if you don’t show up.

The promenade with the stores and restaurants is lovely and reminds me a bit of a Disney resort with the music played early in the morning. The birds and crickets sent up a symphony of sounds in the evenings and night ensuring you never felt alone. On the other hand, if you’re into horror movies you may get a different vibe from it. I prefer to go with the positive. I know my daughter who thinks birds are suspicious at the best of times would have had a little trepidation.

The buffet had a lot of options. My view is for what Air Canada Vacations calls a 5 star, I would have expected better quality food. But it’s not the first time the star reviewer at Air Canada vacations has sent me to a 5 star that turned out to be more a 3.5-4 Star. Fool me once and all that - but I will not be fooled again. Taking the Tripadvisor ratings is the best course.

The rooms have all the amenities and the beds are very comfortable. Water temperature and pressure was good and reliable. AC works well. The rooms and resort, I believe, were built during the Jamaica honeymoon boom but architects who think you want to lay in bed and watch your companion soak in the ti Make it’s a bit awkward if you are not in the situation where you want to show your bits to your travel partner.

Our first room was supposed to be ocean view but all we could see was the plan tress so they moved us. Our first room had no drinks in the fridge and no slippers or hand soap and we had to request the soap and slippers. They did have robes though. Our second room had no soap and no slippers and no robes. There was water and two red stripe in the fridge however.

Dinners are typically at the a La carte restaurants. Blue Mountain and Portofino were okay. The French - well my son had Octopus (high risk I know) and it was very mushy. I had the snapper and it was over cooked and dry.

I will say I find the overcooking thing quite common in the Caribbean and I guess from a food safety standpoint it’s better overcooking than undercooking .

Overall I found the food just okay and generally overcooked and over salted.

The drinks from the bartenders at the inside bars were yummy and well made. At the pool, there was a heavy pour and ready mixes so I found them too strong and not to my taste. I would say most of the folks around. The pool enjoyed the pour to mix ratio and as I said staff aimed to please and I guess strong drinks do it.

Cabana rentals start at $100 USD. Nice if you want to splurge. We found the Lou fees and pool umbrella suffice t for our needs and the loungers and huts at the beach worked fine.

The beach is in the bay so no waves and is shallow (up to my neck) and it’s a protected marine area so there is some jelly fish from time to time. We spent the mornings in the ocean and had no issues.

The pool is quite nice and accessible with gradual entry points.

Towels are plentiful as are loungers. Servers are around and happy to bring you a beverage.

Clientele was predominantly American and middle aged to seniors. Maybe two or three younger couples if that matters to you in your decision. Many indicated they had been there previously.

I wouldn’t want to go back at the price I paid.

I think part of the issue is as more and more of these resorts become part of the same umbrella group - Hyatt- there’s no need to compete and keep standards high. Having done the Sandals/Beaches thing a few times- I would have to say, in my opinion, the food and accommodations are not what they were at one time.

Look elsewhere for a better experience

Was not what I expected from a Hyatt resort. Food was not great at the specialty restaurants, and generally the service was average throughout the hotel. They ran out of rum and/or whiskey at all the bars around the pool every day. Cleaning staff for the rooms were kind, but the rooms were not cleaned well. Everything just felt kind of cheap and slapped together. I wouldn't stay here again.

Unhappy Visitor....BC

I would shop around before booking if you are looking for a spectacular resort. I just don't feel like for the amount I paid that I got my money worth. Also, the ride to the excursions is very scary and the JamWest amusement park needs a facelift, it is very run down for the cost.

Secrets Wild Orchid: Preferred Club, First All Inclusive Experience

Great first experience of all inclusive with just me and my wife. We stayed in the Preferred Club with Adia as our butler. She made our stay even better. While we only went out on one excursion since this was a 'getaway from work', Going to some local dinners or shopping in the future would be a good addition. We would highly recommend Secrets Wild Orchid and will definitely be back in the future.

Secrets wild orchid

Nice hotel, food was not the best and very slow service. The beach was nice. Housekeeping would forget a lot of stuff and not provide enough towels or amenities for everyone in the room. Room service would take 1.5-3 hours a day if you did order. Restaurants had very long waits and the resort wasn’t very busy so may have been understaffed. Entertainment was lovely. Feel like for the price I expected better service and food but the location and staff were nice. Took multiple times of calling to get any service from housekeeping or food service.

You will not be disappointed

I booked Secrets Wild Orchid Preferred Club beach front. This allowed me access to all three hotels including the preferred lounge / area.
This was my third time visiting Jamaica, but first time at this resort. The resort was very nice and some of the staff I would like to highly: (Emciko front desk, Chase and Rashmaine Butlers, and Tevon customer service manager, made our stay very special. Thank you.
I would recommend this resort and would stay here again.

Not what a Secrets Resort should be like, very disappointing.

After staying at several Secrets Resorts in other countries and being extremely happy with the experience at each one, we felt confident to book Secrets Wild Orchid in Jamaica. We were greatly disappointed. This resort needs a complete overhaul in staff. We have never had an entire group of Secrets' employees be more unfriendly, unhelpful, and inefficient as we experienced at Wild Orchids. The setting of the resort is very pretty and the beach and water is beautiful. The facility itself could use some updating, usual wear and tear on a busy resort. But the staff needs to be completely retrained in the ways Secrets' guests anticipate the overall experience for this chain of resorts to be.

Beautiful Ocean, Nice Staff — But Serious Issues Need Attention

Our stay at Orchid Secrets had both good and bad moments.

On the positive side, many of the staff were friendly and welcoming, especially the groundskeepers, who were always polite and hardworking. The ocean itself was beautiful, and we really enjoyed spending time in the water.

However, there were several issues that affected our overall experience. We booked ocean-view rooms but were placed in pool-view rooms with only a partial ocean view in the distance, which was disappointing. At the lunch buffet Pasta Station, one of the workers treated guests inconsistently due to skin color — some guests were allowed to order just seafood, while we were told, “This is a Pasta Station,” and forced to take pasta. She was noticeably less friendly and served smaller portions compared to others.

Even more concerning, someone but we assume "housekeeping" since they had access to our stuff, placed metal rods inside one of our toiletry bags, which caused us to be stopped by airport security on our way home. These items were not there when we arrived in Jamaica, leaving us alarmed and unsettled.

Overall, while we appreciated the beautiful setting and some genuinely kind staff, these incidents — especially the room mix-up, uneven treatment, and housekeeping issue — really took away from what could have been a wonderful vacation. Management should ensure guests receive what they book, are treated equally, and that staff professionalism and guest safety are taken seriously.

Bad Choice

The rooms are outdated. They try to say the preferred side is better, but only offer is the drinks better. The drinks are watered down and the cleanliness is not up to standards. Although I didn't experience this, but a few guests stated their rooms had roaches, but water bugs but roaches. Everyone is looking for tips

Good Accommodations, Friendly Service, But Inconsistent Service

I went with my spouse for time away. The physical part of the resort was well maintained. We were slightly disappointed in the food options. One night there was a long wait at multiple restaurants for dinner.

The staff was friendly but the service tended to be very inconsistent with it being slow and at times it seemed as though we were preventing a couple of them from doing what they really wanted to do.

The room was great and clean.

Hotel is awesome

I would go back and book directly with the hotel. Do not sign up with UVC. Don't waste your time going to a session to hear about the hotel and UVC benefits. The hotel is beautiful and staff is great and you don't need to be a member of UVC to stay there.

Not recommended

Nice beach, but that’s all. Resort needs renovations. Food and drinks were not good. Entertainment wasn’t great either. Some of the staff was very unpleasant. Wouldn’t recommend this resort to anyone. It was 9 of us in a group and everyone was disappointed.

Expensive

Booked a special holiday costing 7k for 2 of us. Check in smooth went up to our room quite nice good sgorage lovely view spa bath mini fridge shower door strip was on the floor and loads of mosquitos. Restaurants were lovely our favourite was the french. Brilliant entertainment the team worked hard. Swim up pool bar was great. The jerk chicken cart was excellent . We paid 300 for 3 days on the cabana first 2 days were fantastic great service they couldnt so enough. 3rd day what a shambles non existant. Didnt feel we had 7k worth of a holiday defo wouldnt come back

I love the Jamaican hospitality! Hurricane was an unexpected bonus.

Overall... excellent. Several trips to the carribean and mexico and this was the Best staff attitude and service ever. Hospitality is genuine and refreshing. You should talk with staff. Instant and sincere smiles and courtesy. When we commented, we consistently heard "that's how we are raised". So nice to have genuinely pleasant service-not trained or obligatory. Please chat with anyone from the grounds crew to the food service and front desk... excellent folks!
Now, as an aside... our 7 days were spent in anticipation of a tropical storm that turned into a Cat 5 hurricane. Airport closed 4 hours before our flight. Has to extend 4 days. The daily cost was too high but the storm prep was excellent and it will hit in about 12 hours. Should be interesting. The eye is supposed to pass right over Montego bay.

Secret orchid concerns

Nice hotel and staff but waiting times fur restaurants were excessive ranging from 20 mins to and hour just to get a seat. Looked under staffed. Mini bar in rooms had water only, and didn’t appreciate the hard members sell. No cutters bus into Mobay so expected to pay hotel taxis an extortionate rate. Had a meeting one evening at the yacht club the bell boys said a taxi would be $20 us each way, I walked it in 5 mins

Towel issues

Secrets Wild Orchid is part of a resort complex including a Breathless and Secrets St. James. All three resorts are adults only and all three share restaurants although reservations are only necessary for Breathless rooftop restaurant and the hibachi restaurant that was very entertaining. Our ocean view room was very nice and the staff was very helpful overall. We enjoyed both the beach and the pools here and the food was very good overall. However, there were towel issues around the beach and pools. Guests did not check out towels with their room keys or room numbers, so there was no incentive for them to remove them from the chairs. The towels laid on the chairs all day long, as there was no cutoff time to remove them, or a way of telling if the chairs were actually available. Also, the towel colors did not always correspond with the areas they were in.

WeddingMoon and Couples Vacation

My husband and I decided on Secrets to have our wedding. It was an amazing experience. Chinoy was our wedding planner and she was amazing. I was extremely nervous prior to getting to the resort on if things were going to go as planned and Chinoy assured me I had nothing to worry about (and she was right)! Upon arriving to the resort, she has us a meeting scheduled to discuss last minute touches. We arrived 3 days prior to the wedding day (which they highly suggest). We went over everything my wedding day would entail. She walked us around the resort to let us decide our wedding gazebo and where we would like to have the reception. We chose an indoor location for the reception as it was extremely hot and we did not want our guest in the heat (plus there was on and off rain the days prior so we were being proactive and just decided on an indoor location for the reception). I can't thank Chinoy enough on her reassurance and responsiveness in ensuring my wedding was everything I wanted!

The resort itself is absolutely beautiful. They do a phenomenal job in ensuring it is well maintained. The restaurants were pretty good. Our favorite was the Jamaican restaurant. I feel like they should have a dinner buffet available daily otherwise you have to wait to be seated in the other restaurants and they do not do reservations. The only restaurant that did reservations was the Teppanyaki restaurant and unfortunately we did not get to visit there due to being booked. We arrived on a Wednesday and was told the next opening at the Teppanyaki (hibachi) restaurant wouldn't be till that next Tuesday and we were leaving that day.

The pools and bars were really good. The bartenders could be a little friendlier. Some of them looked like we were getting on their nerves or like they didn't want to be there. They still, however, fixed some really good drinks.
The pool lounge gazebos were nice. They charge like a $100 for the day or something like that to reserve one. If you want to add the 2 beach chairs that go with the gazebo I believe it was like and additional $50. It's best to get there early if you want to reserve one close to the pool swim up bar or you can reserve it the day before. You also get a "server" if you reserve a gazebo who brings you and your party drinks and food! Our server was Ramon and boy was he AMAZING! I felt like we were family by the time we were leaving. My husband and I even invited him to the wedding and reception! He was hilarious and kept the drinks coming. If you reserve a pool gazebo tell them you want to sit in the section that Ramon serves in!

The night entertainment was great. I do wish the headphone party was EVERYNIGHT! It was literally like one night a week. We had a blast doing that. Also, the all white party was pretty fun! I enjoyed how they also played hip hop and not just all Jamaican music. I wish there were more shows in the showroom. We only saw 1 show in there and that was the Bob Marley tribute show. We thoroughly enjoyed the show but I think there should be more shows on different nights. The piano bar with the karaoke was kind of boring and sleepy-ish. Wish it was more upbeat. The man would play the song requested and you would just sing it. Eh... I didn't care for it.

Overall my husband and our wedding party had an amazing time! Our wedding party age ranges from 30-40. I wouldn't recommend it for older couples. I say this because everyone doesn't fit in with all ages. My husband and I did stay at Couples Tower Isle back in April of 2025 and I would definitely recommend that for couples ages 50 and over. We did not enjoy there very much due to it being an older crowd and we're in our late 30s. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone looking to come to Jamaica and enjoy themselves. It is clean and overall the staff did a great job.
