September stay

Stayed for 4 nights and loved how uncrowded the resort was due to it being the low season in Jamaica.

The room was terrific. Comfortable beds and modern and sleek design. No issues with water pressure like others noted. Cleaned daily with no issues. The service for the most part was great. We had a few exceptions, but that can be expected anywhere you go. This place employs a ton of people so if you can’t find someone to help, you aren’t trying hard enough. The food was average AI..some good and some not so good. Between the restaurants and buffet, we didn’t go hungry. Just use the app to make reservations for the restaurants. You can make them at beginning at midnight for the following day. Bars were plentiful and drinks were flowing. No issues in that department.

Special shout out to Spark (Lloyd) who ran the exercise the program and performed in the show. The guy was everywhere! He was fantastic and brought so much energy to the daytime at RiuFit and by the pool.

Beach was nice and had very little seaweed. Not many vendors too which was a nice change from other resorts I had stayed in Jamaica.

Would I stay again… yes, only in the low season. I worry that when this place is packed that things might be a little different especially with how Riu does their food options. This isn’t the best family resort in my opinion. It’s more of a party vibe so if you are looking for a quiet place or a family centered vacation, this is not it. It’s loud until late in the night with DJs and music so be aware.

We had a fun getaway overall!

Jamaica Riu Aquarelle- Perfect!

Great Hotel and brand new. Everything was perfect with the hotel and accommodations. Service was great, staff was wonderful, and I would stay there again for sure. Pools and beach were wonderful and the specialty restaurants were super good and went to all of them.

beautiful hotel

My husband and i stayed at this lovely hotel for 2 weeks to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary, my birthday and my husbands birthday. Our room was beautiful, lovely and clean and great views of the sea. The food was good and booking into the speciality restaurants wasnt an issue , we did this on the Riu App. The pools were nice but the swim up bar pool was plagued with wasps or bees , which ever they were they stung so many people, and the hotel actually closed the bar for a day to give it a deep clean to get rid of any spilt sweet drinks, but as soon as it reopened the little horrors were back with vengeance. I know people will say " you are in a hot country etc etc , but we have been to the Caribbean on many of occasion and never experienced anything like it. All in all a fab hotel on a fabulous island, cant wait to go back.

Incredible Time at Riu Palace Aquarelle!!!!! (Great for Vegans!!!!!!)

Stayed: August 26 to September 4, 2025

I went to RIU Palace Aquarelle with my mother for her birthday and, unfortunately, for a funeral, too. We spent 9 days there. I knew I would enjoy myself there, but I never expected to enjoy it at the level that I did. All of the staff members were genuinely kind. I’m referring to the staff at the front desk, security (especially Ariel), in the White Bay buffet restaurant, guest services, the activity/entertainment department, housekeeping, and more. One thing my mother wanted to try was snorkeling, and she doesn’t know how to swim. We booked the Signature Snorkeling tour with Scuba Caribe, which is on the property. The lifeguard, Anthony, and the boat captain, Ajomie, aka AJ (sorry if I misspelled your name), were incredibly patient and caring.

Anthony guided my mom during the entire experience. He assisted her with putting on a life vest, getting into the water, easing her anxiety, and getting back on the boat. After a while, my mom’s anxiety disappeared and was replaced with the excitement of being able to successfully snorkel and view the beautiful sea life underneath her. I was so proud of my mom and grateful for Anthony!! Anthony and AJ made sure we were all safe and happy the entire time. They are both invaluable to the Scuba Caribe/Riu team!!

Another day, I was stung by a jellyfish while at the beach, and the RIU staff, including Selena from guest services, helped to ensure I received the help I needed to recover. Due to their assistance, I was able to recover quickly.

DINING:

During our time dining at the White Bay buffet restaurant, we were always greeted with a big smile and treated with the utmost respect. A few team members stood out: Kerene, Peta-Gay, and another woman (unfortunately, I don’t know her name), but she always brought a smile to my face, and a great peace to my dining experience with her kindness and her singing. You could tell they truly cared about ensuring guests had an incredible experience. Also, I follow a vegan lifestyle, and when I asked the chefs if certain ingredients were in dishes, they kindly answered my questions. I didn’t feel like I was a bother for inquiring. I always had many delicious vegan options during each meal in the buffet and never went hungry.

ACTIVITY/ENTERTAINMENT TEAM:

The activity/entertainment team was incredible and full of joy! We had such a wonderful time participating in the games, water fitness class, and watching the various shows. This was the best time that we have ever had at a resort in Jamaica, and we have visited Jamaica many times. We don’t even want to try other resorts when we return. If we do try another place, they will have big shoes to fill because we will be comparing everything to RIU Palace Aquarelle.

DIVING SERVICES:

The only con was with the diving services from Scuba Caribe. I was excited to go diving and was ready to book multiple dives, but couldn’t dive with them because the staff couldn’t get in contact with the manager, since they were in the Netherlands. They sent multiple messages each day for several days, and still nothing. After a while, I gave up and decided to go somewhere else, off the property (Dressel Divers at Iberostar Rose Hall). I’m glad I went diving somewhere else because my experience was wonderful. Unfortunately, I don’t have a desire to try booking with Scuba Caribe’s diving services again. It’s unfortunate because they missed out on getting more business. That was a missed opportunity on their part. I will definitely use Scuba Caribe for the Signature Snorkeling tour with the lifeguard, Anthony, and the boat captain, AJ!!

Thank you, and enjoy your day!

See you next time!

absolutely shocking avoid and don’t wasted your money

I stayed here at the end of september and it was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. Despite advertising as a five-star resort, there was no hot water, fridge turned off at 3 AM, cold and repetitive food, and basic amenities missing or poorly maintained.

Beach service was shocking – no umbrellas unless you tipped staff, and a few staff were rude and dismissive, which was unacceptable for a supposedly luxury resort also they was no hot water in the hotel to get a hot shower absolutely unacceptable

The manager, Selena, was completely unprofessional. She ignored repeated complaints, lied, failed to take responsibility, and never did her job properly, despite promising to resolve issues multiple times.

If you book through TUI, be aware they do nothing to help when things go wrong. Overall, this hotel fails in every aspect of service and guest care—I strongly advise looking elsewhere

Riu Palace Accural - What a palace!

Hi everyone, we went to this resort in May 2025 for 7 nights. The resort is not big, that's what I loved about it, everything is nearby, no trolleys needed, loved that!!
We took partial ocean view, it was very much worth the extra money.
The food was amazing, the rooms super clean, this hotel is very new so they are still trying to tie loose ends. the staff were amazing, always there to help you whenever you need anything. They even ask you if you need help when you don't. The staff interact with the guests to show their support and give you a feeling of being part of their family always with a smile. Very nice!
The drinks were amazing, no mosquitos, no bugs everything would have been a 10+
HOWEVER...please for those of you who want to spend time swimming in the beach please note the beach is not special, lots of large boulders in the water and is a tripping injury ready to happen, there are not many beach chairs or cabanas, the beach is small shared by the other local hotels. I really enjoy hotels with beautiful beach areas as I am not a pool person so if you are like me, I'm just saying...
Oh, and smoking is not permitted at the resort only in a couple of places, so not good for smokers who want to enjoy a cigar or smoke with a drink.
The hotel has an elevator shared so there are always long waits for the elevators.

Deeply Disappointed at RIU Palace Aquarelle – A Letdown After a Year of Loyalty and over 20K spent with them

OUR STAY WAS BOOKED DIRECTLY THROUGH RIU.COM., WE DID NOT USE A THIRD PARTY!

As a devoted fan of the RIU brand, I never thought I’d be writing a review like this. My family and I have enjoyed RIU resorts across different countries, and over the past year alone, we’ve spent nearly $18,800 CAD / $13,700 USD (not including flights), staying at RIU Ocho Rios, RIU Guanacaste, and RIU Santa Fe. Each of those stays reinforced why we love RIU – consistent service, great amenities, and staff who make the experience special.

However, our most recent stay at RIU Palace Aquarelle from July 4 to July 13, 2025 (Room 1160) was a shockingly poor experience, especially considering it was a trip to celebrate both our wedding anniversary and our elevation to RIU Gold Membership status.

The Booking: WE BOOK ALL RIU STAYS DIRECTLY THROUGH RIU.COM AND DO NOT USE A THIRD PARTY!

Booked a Junior Suite with full ocean/sea view, using 3,225 points for the upgrade.

Purposefully timed this trip to reach Gold Member status before an upcoming family vacation in October.

Requested special attention for our anniversary on July 9th and noted the importance of this milestone.

The Disappointments:

Room not as booked: We were placed in a lateral sea view room instead of a proper ocean view. Even housekeeping confirmed this. Front desk staff were unhelpful and dismissive, refusing to move us or return our points. No manager was made available, despite multiple requests.

Gold status disregarded: Upon asking about our Gold Member status, the front desk staff laughed it off and said it “wasn’t a big deal.” There was no formal welcome, no champagne, no letter, nothing that I had seen others receive. Ironically, I only saw my Gold status acknowledged in the RIU app after returning to Toronto.

Anniversary botched: A hotel employee delivered a bottle of sparkling wine and buffet desserts 5 days early, without explanation. That was it. No decoration, no proper timing, no acknowledgment on the actual day.

Room service issues: On multiple occasions, our minibar was left unstocked, towels missing, garbage not emptied, and coffee or mugs not replenished. One night, we received a "welcome back" letter and coffee pack – odd, considering we had never been to this resort before.

Technical issues: The TV in our room would turn on by itself during the night. When we reported it, we were told there was nothing they could do.

Checkout experience: The staff member barely made eye contact, said nothing about our stay, and just cut our bracelet off before telling us to head to breakfast. It was cold and dismissive – the final impression of an already disappointing trip.

Final Thoughts:

This was supposed to be a special celebration – of our marriage and of becoming loyal RIU Gold Members. Instead, it felt like we were an inconvenience. I've never felt so undervalued after choosing to spend so much time and money with a brand I trusted.

We were treated better at RIU’s standard resorts than at this Palace property. Despite the expectations set by the RIU brand and our previous positive experiences, this stay felt impersonal, dismissive, and careless.

RIU Palace Aquarelle left us questioning whether our loyalty matters at all. I sincerely hope RIU addresses these issues – not only for us but for other loyal guests who trust the RIU name.

This stay felt like we didn’t matter — not as repeat guests, not as RIU members, not even as paying customers. We received better service at standard RIU resorts than at this Palace property, which is supposed to offer a premium experience.

We left feeling unappreciated, dismissed, and extremely disappointed. After four trips in one year and nearly $20,000 CAD in spend, I expected better. I used to sing RIU’s praises. Now I’m not sure I’ll return.

RIU, if you're reading this — please consider how guests like us, who’ve shown loyalty and support, are being treated. I hope you will take this seriously and reach out to make this right.

Poorly Managed

We’ve stayed at many RIU Resorts around the world—this is our 15th stay or more—but this location is by far the worst managed. We arrived in October 2025, expecting the same great experience as before, but were very disappointed.

Upon arrival, we were given a room with two single beds even though we booked as a couple. The staff member who checked us in had an unhelpful attitude and seemed ready to argue rather than explain. She took the payment first and only afterward told us what we were getting, claiming the resort was fully booked. Later, another staff member contradicted that, saying it wasn’t the case.

Even small things were disappointing—at the bar, when we asked for lime, lemon, or salt for a tequila, they simply said they didn’t have any. Overall, this has been the worst RIU experience we’ve ever had. We normally don’t write reviews, but we felt we had to warn others: think twice before you book.

We’re still at the resort as we write this, and we truly regret choosing this location.

Reasonable resort needs work in a fews areas

While we generally enjoyed the location and amenities, this hotel, despite being open for just over a year, failed to meet the standards of a luxury resort, particularly in service and physical condition. The most significant issue, however, was the distressing and insensitive enforcement of the smoking/vaping policy which completely marred the end of our trip.
Hotel Condition and Furnishings (Subpar for "Luxury")
The hotel's physical condition was surprisingly worn for such a new property. There was noticeable wear and tear, suggesting that lower-cost, possibly flat-pack furnishings were used in the rooms. While not a complete deal-breaker, this lack of quality is concerning for a supposed luxury establishment and brings its long-term upkeep into question.
Service Standards (Lacking Customer Focus)
In general, the staff appeared indifferent and often lacked enthusiasm, especially when compared to the excellent service we've experienced at other properties like Riu Negril.
A specific incident highlighted this lack of customer care: my mother's blouse was badly stained by splattering clarified butter during a meal. The server's response was completely inadequate, simply stating, "I'll get you another butter," with no apology or concern for the damaged clothing.
When we escalated the stained blouse to Reception, they eventually offered a cleaning service. However, the item was returned three days later with the stains still present.
Inconsistent Policy Enforcement & Distressful Incident
The most significant issue affecting our stay and our decision not to return was the inconsistent and utterly insensitive enforcement of the smoking and vaping policy.
My mother, a wheelchair user, vapes using a minimal-vapour device. She was repeatedly directed to a designated smoking area that was unpleasant (strong odours of cigarette smoke and cannabis) and physically inaccessible due to inadequate curb cuts, despite our TUI representatives advising her the low-vapour device was not an issue.
The situation culminated in the final 15 minutes of our stay. While my mother was quietly vaping outdoors on a sparsely occupied sofa, Security Guard Andrew confronted her. Crucially, a male guest with a high-vapour device was left unchallenged at the opposite end of the lobby entrance.
When we pointed out the accessibility barriers (inadequate curb drop, no curb cut) to the designated area, the instruction was upheld. As my mother struggled, Guard Andrew attempted to assist by forcefully grabbing the wheelchair, causing my 73-year-old mother to nearly lose her balance. I had to immediately intervene to ensure her safety.
To compound the distress, after our TUI representative arrived, Guard Andrew was observed laughing at my mother's predicament. This behaviour was entirely unacceptable. The whole incident left my mother deeply distressed, feeling that her disability led to her being treated as a "second-class citizen."
Conclusion
We are extremely unlikely to return. While we know the Riu brand is capable of superior experiences, the deficits in service, the disappointing property finish, and, most importantly, the distressing, poorly handled security incident have unfortunately cast a significant negative shadow over our holiday. Potential guests should be aware of these issues.

Best hotel I have ever stayed in.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff were all so polite and helpful. Someone there at all times to serve you what you needed. The food. Was absolutely delicious in the main Buffett restaurant. Ackee salt fish, festivals, curry goat.. all that to would hope for on a holiday to Jamaica. The steak restaurant was delicious. You could chill on the beach or party by the pool if depending on how you felt. The room was great . All the taxi drivers were excellent and they will stay with you if you want to go on an excursion out of the hotel. We went out and explored Falmouth by ourself and the drivers waited and had a great time seeing the Real Jamaica.
What a truly wonderful holiday. Can’t rate it enough

Amazing, amazing amazing

This place is absolutely amazing. If you read any bad reviews ignore them.
I do t know where to start.
Food amazing. The Buffett there was so much choice and plenty of it. The quality was exceptional. You can indulge or eat as healthy as you want. The hotel has speciality restaurants I enjoyed the Italian and the Indian food exceptional. The staff in all these restaurants were always so attentive. They always sing happy birthday to guests. Which can get amusing when you hear the song 6 times a day.
Alcohol in all the bars all premium with kind happy servers! Coffee shop does lovely cakes and rolls.

Entertainment team brilliant! You are a credit to your jobs. You could do as much or as little as you want! We didn’t have children with us but the children’s team were absolutely fantastic. They were so good with the kiddies and adults.

Once a week they have a managers award for the guests where our names went in a raffle and we got prizes free

4 lovely pools . They were separated into adults children and sports

We had a lovely room 1084 cleaned beautifully. Lovely views premium alcohol in optic in the room.

Fantastic holiday

We have just got back from this fantastic holiday. The hotel is one of the best we’ve been to. It’s big, but spaced out. We had an ocean view room (1073). Right above the beach. Fantastic view, we could sit on the balcony and watch the Rays below in the sea. The buffet restaurant was typical Riu. Catering for all tastes. The A La Carte restaurants all served up fantastic dishes. The steakhouse did tasty filet and ribeye steaks. The Asian was very tasty. But my favourite was the Krystal restaurant and the beef short rib was to die for. I just kept going back there and having the beef. All the pools and pool, areas were kept clean and tidy. There was plenty of lifeguards on duty all the time and the bars had multiple bar staff so never had to wait long for drink. We were mainly in the swimup pool Kingston. Shout out to Tricia who ran the bar. Fantastic lady , my favourite bar staff Andre and Antonell . They were a great laugh and always kept the drinks flowing. The entertainment staff were great, some great activities around the pools, and the evening entertainment was varied and always good. If you want a Fun filled or relaxing holiday then choose this hotel.

Exceptional Service from All Staff – A Wonderful Stay at RIU Aquarelle

I recently stayed at RIU Aquarelle in Jamaica, and I have to say the staff truly made my experience memorable from start to finish.

Every department I interacted with was outstanding. The buffet restaurant staff were consistently friendly, attentive, and welcoming — always ensuring guests were comfortable and satisfied. The bar staff were quick, professional, and added to the lively atmosphere with their warm smiles and great service.

The entertainment team kept the energy high with fun daily activities and shows — they worked hard and always brought a great vibe to the resort. The lifeguards were consistently alert and helpful, giving peace of mind to everyone by the pools and beach.

The maintenance team was responsive and kind, and while I had a technical issue during my stay, they did their best to resolve it and were always courteous and respectful. The front desk staff were professional, helpful, and made check-in and check-out seamless.

Every single staff member I encountered went above and beyond to make guests feel valued and relaxed. The resort is beautiful, but it’s the staff who truly make RIU Aquarelle special. Their warmth, hospitality, and hard work deserve full recognition.

Thank you to everyone at RIU Aquarelle for an unforgettable holiday. I would absolutely return and highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Jamaica.

One love

Boss Lady 😉

Staff are not very friendly

I’m currently staying at Riu Aquarelle after spending time at Riu Ocho Rios, and the difference in atmosphere between the two resorts is quite noticeable. The facilities here at Aquarelle are lovely and well maintained, but the warmth and friendliness from the staff just isn’t the same.

At Ocho Rios, staff made a real effort to greet you, smile, and make you feel genuinely welcome. Here, I’ve found the energy from many of the staff to be quite flat and, at times, unapproachable. For example, when I asked a cleaner for her name so I could thank her personally, she brushed it off and walked away — which felt unnecessarily rude.

Not all staff are unfriendly, but overall, there’s a lack of enthusiasm that takes away from the resort experience. Since most guests spend much of their time on-site, a more welcoming and engaging attitude would make a big difference.

The area outside the resort is quiet, with not much to do nearby unless you have a car, so the resort’s atmosphere really matters — and that’s where Aquarelle could learn from Ocho Rios. If the team here brought a bit more warmth and energy to their interactions, it would completely elevate the experience.

Solid 4 star

The resort is a solid 4 star. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Food is good overall. They seem to have lost that sparkle that made it a 5 star. We visited last year at the same time. Here are a few observations: staff were often socializing with each other instead of cleaning the resort. They walk by things needing attention and/or kick the garbage out of the way. The furniture shows visible wear, which you wouldn't expect at a 5 star. The beach umbrellas should be an embarrassment to them. They are in shambles and broken as well as not readily available to all guests as there are not enough for everyone. The resort should invest in some permanent palapas. Their attempts at repainting areas was sloppy at best with paint splatters all.over and on the trim. Servers on the beach and in the food areas were attentive and always willing to get you whatever you need. The drinks were delicious with a wide variety or choices. The ocean was warm and clear. The lifeguards are attentive and friendly. We should note that we did see stingrays in the water and a woman was stung by one in very shallow water and had to go to the hospital. There were also sharks right outside the rope areas but the lifeguards were quick to get everyone out of the water. Overall, solid 4 star resort.

What an amazing hotel! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We have just come back from staying in this hotel for 2 weeks coming from the uk, my boyfriend and i took my parents along with us and we all loved it! if youre weighing up staying at this hotel, book it!

1. The staff

everyone we encountered, the bartenders, waitors, reception and the entertainment team were absolutely amazing, everyone couldnt do enough for you or to help you at any time of the day. The entertainment staff all day long are absolutely amazing and so much fun they all took the time to get to know us, special shoutout to lloyd, orlando and tiana 10/10 staff!! (everyone was great but we got to know these the most) The lifeguards if you ask will grab you umberellas and help you out we usually tipped them a dollar if they grabbed us an umbrella, also shoutout to Mike the lifeguard.

2. the food

The food in the buffet in my opinion is 9/10, nothings ever perfect. However they had so much choice, the food was tasty, never cold and always had something we wanted, so much choice if you have picky eaters or kids aswell. The restaurants were like 8.5/10 and we could always manage to get a reservation. The steakhouse and Kyoto were our favorites, they seem mainly for adults but the only thing we agreed on that they could do would be to have more options and a wider menu for the restaurants.

3. Rooms

We had a junior suite with a sea view, the day we checked in we had a room with 2 small double beds and not one big bed so we called reception and they moved us the next day as this was incorrect on our booking, no issues with this they were super good about it. We couldnt move the next day as they had no junior suites until the next day which was fine with us. The rooms were super spacious and clean, we could request anything we needed when we ran out like shampoo etc and our towels were changed and room cleaned everyday, including staff that would knock and ask if you needed anything, also our fridge was filled up every day.

4. The beach

stunning! the sand is white and soft, when we went there was no sea weed but if we’d had some rain the day before it might have been a bit windy. Theres barely any rocks in the sea but it is the sea so not a lot you can do about that but we found maybe 1 the whole time we were there but you can always go in with water shoes.

5. The pools

The pool bars (mainly the marley bar) was usually fairly loud but also mainly at a weekend, this one has the foam parties on a friday which were so much fun and you can ask them to make u any drink and theyll make it no issues. The pools were always clean whenever we were there and the pool bars were both adult only.

Overall we had such a great time we all couldn’t recommend this hotel enough, the staff, the entertainment, the grounds and the food were all amazing. We’ve all said we would come back. Best RIU we’ve stayed at!

More Of A 4 Star.

Staff was amazing, food was average, room was phenomenal.

Empty promises from front desk for our stay.

We extended our stay 1 night, our room category had a 30% off sale and they didn't honor it for us.

Last time we stay at a RIU.

Week in Paradise

We had a great experience at RIU Aquarelle last week. The staff was phenomenal! We said the people made this vacation. Specifically, Dr. Nelson our beach server (10/10), Troya in the buffet (10/10), and Spark whose last day was Thursday from the RIU Fun crew(10/10). I would 100% return.

The pros are: great rooms, plentiful beach/pool chairs, drinks were top notch, service was great.

The cons: not a lot of activities for teenagers, not a populated area (nothing to walk to other than straw market.

Fantastic Experience – Amazing Staff and Unforgettable Entertainment! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

From start to finish, our stay was absolutely wonderful! The entire team made us feel so welcome and truly went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time.

A huge thank you to the waiters and bartenders, who were always friendly, attentive, and quick with a smile (and a delicious drink!). The pool staff kept everything spotless and organized, making it easy to relax and enjoy the sunshine without a worry.

But the biggest shout-out goes to the entertainment team – they were simply incredible! Their energy, enthusiasm, and talent kept everyone engaged and smiling from morning to night. Every show and activity was filled with laughter and good vibes. You can tell they genuinely love what they do, and it made all the difference in our experience.

We left with amazing memories and can’t wait to come back. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special – you’re the heart of this resort! ❤️
