Great Resort

Love this resort remember it is old and a bit outdated but the location and the staff keep me coming back. Food is ok but the beach and pools are amazing. Remember this resort is not a 5 Star Secrets but it is a wonderful resort to spend a week at!

Sub par for 5 star

Food quality was really awful. This isn’t my first or 2nd time or even 3rd time staying at a secrets. It’s falling apart. Even spoke with 3 other people that said they have been to this resort many times and they won’t be retuning as it’s gone downhill with food and activities. Beach is still nice. But Secrets you are gonna close up shop continuing with this. Lost a 10 year customer with this resort.

Had a wonderful time!

The trip started off bad because we were assigned an outdated musty room we called the manager and was immediately moved to an updated refreshing room. The vacation was great after that. Staff was friendly and professional. We are definitely going to return.

Great stay, except for the LIES LIES LIES!

Long review :)
Pros: check in was fairly quick (except the "sales pitch) to set up a "tour of facility" - which might not have been a bad idea as the resort is pretty large, but learned our way around without it. Quiet beach, lovely room (preferred superior 4th floor- great view) pools were clean, food was better than I'd expected. Boudreax was great, and Jury (female waitstaff was amazing, though only open 2 nights, but it was off season. Gohan was very good also. Oceana - fish tacos were very good - no inside seating and the mosquitos were the worst I've ever seen anywhere ever! Market cafe had a very good breakfast buffet. Lunch at World cafe (at Dreams - was our favorite lunch place).
Drinks were good, but very different from bar to bar on the resort. Tried using the names for drinks listed on their app and staff had no idea what I was talking about.
Had one small issue with the faucet flying off the soaking tub, but was fixed the next day . The rain head shower allowed water to run everywhere, so used towels to stop it. The other sprayer was odd and not sure of it's purpose. Showers need a place for women to step a leg up or grab ahold to shave legs :)
The staff, not including the liar liar pants on fire (even she was nice though while lying through her teeth) were so kind, everyone said hi and went above and beyond to ensure a wonderful visit.
This is a great time to visit - it's slower, quieter, but you chance the weather and fewer restaurants. The weather was perfect! Our original plan was Myrtle Beach, but with a hurricane on the way, decided to go back to Cozumel.
We truly enjoyed our anniversary and birthday and would be planning a return trip EXCEPT for THE LIES.

I booked this trip on Friday night for a Sunday departure with Expedia, then cancelled it, with intention of rebooking directly with AA and Secrets. Cancelled with Expedia's "bot" so no human. Hotel non refundable, so I called Expedia and they told me same story, but still would not let me rebook using same funds. (this was totally my mistake - no blame lies elsewhere) I rebooked directly with Secrets, thinking I'd handle the issue once there. Expedia said they could only issue the refund, if Secrets approved - and they couldn't reach them, nor could I reach the appropriate person - they all said to allow 72 hours - but I was leaving in less than 48 hours. At the preferred lobby, I ask for a manager on duty and Karina Vasquez (f that's even her real name) came and visited, telling me she would visit with her off site liaison and get back to me. She called me in my room the following day to come visit. She advised me, in front of the desk clerk Martin, that they had agreed to have Expedia give me a full refund of the money paid to them. BUT, she noticed, I had not paid for this reservation (the one directly with hotel) and they couldn't give the ok to refund until I paid that. So like an idiot, I paid. (My reservation showed "pay at hotel" so I assumed since I wasn't charged online, I'd be charged upon arrival, and wasn't then thought maybe they will apply the other funds or charge at checkout.)
Once I paid, I never saw or heard from Karina again. The email she said I'd get did not come, when I emailed her, no reply. I emailed her, her liaison, secrets reservations and copied Expedia MANY times. Each time Expedia replied advising to keep them in the loop and they would issue the refund once they got the ok from Secrets. I just wanted to made whole, and the resort not be paid 2 times for 1 vacation. The direct booking was about $500 more than the Expedia one (due to upgrades and no air discount) While I would not have been happy, I would have taken my lumps, if Secrets told me No, no refund or told me a credit for future use only. But no, they lied, they out and out lied. We are semi retired and travel internationally 3- 4 times per year for a week at a time. At least once a year, we bring 2 of our grandchildren, and occasionally another couple comes along. Apparently they do no care that they will miss out on future business from us and that I will tell everyone that ask and leave a review on every place imaginable about the lies. I understand the rules and am not mad about that, only the LIES, LIES, LIES!

We LOVE Secrets Aura Cozumel!

This was our fifth trip to Secrets Aura Cozumel, we love it there! The resort is cozy and the staff is amazing! Fabulous snorkeling right off the beach, and the water is Caribbean blue and beautiful! We did visit during "rainy" season, but we knew that going in so no worries. Overall an amazing experience. The staff at Market Cafe for the breakfast buffet is very attentive and knowledgeable - THANK YOU to our wonderful hostess Rosana and the wait staff, Caspar, Alberto, Rene and Ricardo!! We had an exceptional dinner at Gohan, and our waiter Alejandro went above and beyond! His attentiveness and service were just AMAZING!! There are areas that need some TLC, but the renovation process will take a while so be patient if you visit! :)

Nice Enough

This was a solo dive trip. The scuba diving was great and the on-site Dive House was very accommodating. The resort is located right on the beach and everything was convenient. There were some challenges with food service--finding out where to eat, when to eat was somewhat difficult at times. Staff kept saying, "Consult the app" but the app was inaccurate. For instance for lunch it only showed one option, and that option said, "Lunch for preferred guests only'. When i went to the front desk they just shrugged. Then it happened that the food services manager was walking by and they told me to talk to him. He informed me that I was able to eat at restaurants at Dreams at well as Secrets, and that the restaurant showing "Preferred guests only" was open for all guests. Later that day, I saw that the listing in the App had changed--so he responded to the feedback. Housekeeping and mini-bar replacement was hit and miss. I did not get turn-down services on several days. My mini-bar went 3 days without being restocked with Fanta and Sprite, even though I specifically asked two different people and was told by both it'd be done "shortly". Despite these service issues, the property itself is nice, though aging a bit. My room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet each morning was fine, with made-to-order eggs and a variety of pastries, cereals, breads, fruits, and some local foods as well. Since my focus was on scuba diving I didn't really utilize the pool/bar areas so I can't speak to them. They looked nice when I walked by and people seemed to be enjoying them. I appreciated that the night time activities that took place on the beach ended at 9:00 p.m. as I was able to hear them from my room. Everything was quiet from 9:00 p.m. on which made for a peaceful sleep at night. For the price I paid, this was a relatively inexpensive trip since it included 7 nights of accommodations, all meals, drinks (including alcohol--although I'm not a heavy drinker) and 5 days of two-tank scuba dives in an all-inclusive package for less than I'd typically pay for just a hotel in a regular place. It is not the most luxurious, but it was quite nice for the price.

Family Time at Secrets Aura Cozumel

We had a good time at Secrets Aura in Cozumel. The amenities were nice and the service was outstanding! We ate the Market Cafe at least once a day; the Captain, Rosana, and the Hostess, Kenia, were so incredibly friendly and accommodating. My husband wanted something in particular and Rosana got it for him! The waitstaff is very attentive, especially Mario, Ricardo, Alberto, Rene, and Gaspar... if you're in their sections, you won't be disappointed. Please treat yourself to hydrotherapy and massages as well... their spa is fabulous!

Amazing Beach but Poor Hotel Experience

Context - my wife and I have stayed at 2 other Secrets resorts and a couple of very nice, newer Barcelo and Rui Adult Only All Inclusive resorts along the Riviera Maya. This was our first time on Cozumel and at the Secrets Aura.
Frist, the Positives
- No wrist bands, no towel cards
- Aura is on an incredible stretch of white sand beach and clear and calm water. Absolutely beautiful setting. Great for swimming or some basic snorkeling around the peer. We arrived the first evening to an amazing sunset.
- The staff, especially those working at the bars and restaurants were very friendly and attentive. They also come take drink orders down at the beach which was nice.
- Overall property was clean (no trash) and nice landscaping.
- The pools were sufficient. A pretty one right next to the beach. Large one in back of resort where we were but hardly anyone used it because the bar was closed, and then another one with a swim up pool bar in the Preferred section. Not huge but this one was fun as most people would end up there in the afternoon. Resort wasnt checking or caring if you were preferred guest or not, which was nice.
- Skybar above the lobby was cool place to get a drink, especially at sunset.
- Breakfast was good at either the Oceana or Marketplace. Cant go wrong with eggs made to your liking.
- Enjoyed grabbing a coffee each morning at the coffee shop
- Bordeaux by far the nicest dining experience and best quality food
- Spent day at the Palancar Beach club about 10 minutes down from the Aura. This was an even more amazing stretch of beach and body of water and we opted for the more expensive option that included food and drinks, kayaks, etc.
- Town of San Miguel is nice and chill. We went to the La Mission restaurant one night and had amazing grilled fish/shrimp/lobster dinner.
- Next time we want to rent a car and drive the entire island, which was recommended by a few people. Also do a snorkeling excursion.
Now the Negatives
- The Aura does not meet the Secrets standard, not even close. It needs a major facelift. Old, outdated and the rooms, grounds, and facilities are showing it.
-- We paid a little extra for a swim out pool room, but ours swim out was only 2 ft deep, so not really enjoyable. Note, they do have swim out rooms with deeper water, but they didnt have one available until later in our stay and we didnt want to move.
- Multiple guests we met were complaining about lack of hot water or water pressure issues. For our room the rain shower and wand lever needed to be fixed and the plaster on the wall next to the sink was flaking off and getting everywhere. Two couples we met checked out and moved down the beach to the Dreams sister property because they were so disappointed with the rooms and dinning options.
- Restaurant options are limited with some not open for dinner every night.
- Food quality very average or less than average for the most part.
Summary - if you are are not a food or hotel snob, then this might be worth your stay, simply because of the beautiful beach and water. We just might go back again for this and because we want to see more of the island and town next time.

Don’t go there

The facilities were run-down. Broken and cracked tiles. The buildings were obviously old and unkept. No hot water for showers- tepid at best The food portions were very small. There was not much variety in the foods.

Stay somewhere else. Great diving and snorkelling in Cozumel, though.

Secrets Aura Cozumel is an old run-down resort with not great food, unfortunately. The staff were great, and the snorkelling and diving were extraordinary. I would return to Cozumel for the ocean, but not to this resort. Dreams, Cozumel was a bit better than Secrets, which we found strange, but only two restaurants (often closed, like at Secrets) and one buffet.

Another great vaca at Secrets Cozumel!!!

We have been to this resort about 30 times over many years. We have seen a lot of changes in that time. We are actually here now and will be leaving Thursday. This resort has become our "happy place". ALL of the employees are wonderful, polite and attentive. Standouts are Margarito, Gabriel, Omar, Virginia and best of all of them...Geidy!! I would like to make a few observations. When we were here in April, I wrote a review stating that there were not enough lounge chairs on the beach for the preferred guests. We were pleased to see that there were a lot more chairs this time!! At dinner, no matter where you go, the service and food is excellent. We actually noticed a big difference in the quality of the food since April. Maybe because Hyatt took over. At breakfast though, there is a disconnect between ordering and receiving the food. Again, the wait staff is wonderful, but they might bring out one dish for one person and nothing for the other person for quite a while. The food just comes out at random. As good as the dinner service is, I would think that this could be improved. The French onion soup at Bordeaux used to be the main reason we would go to that restaurant. It had great depth of flavor, was filled with wonderful onions and had a cheesy, decadent crouton floating on top. In April, it was amazing. This time, it tasted almost like nothing, and the little crouton was an utter disappointment. Please bring back the chef that knew how to make it!!!! If the North window glass could be replaced in 124 before we come back in January (already booked 2 more weeks in January), that would be awesome. After all, it's all about the view!! WE will be here till Thursday, so if management would like to discuss any of this with us, we are available.

Choose Elsewhere

We wanted to enjoy our time in Cozumel, but this resort did not meet our expectations. Although we knew it was a 1-for-1 property, our experience was nowhere near the level of Vallarta Bay, which is also a 1-for-1 resort. The only highlights were Luis and Lesly, who went above and beyond to make our stay more enjoyable. Our feedback does not reflect their excellent service.

We visited in October 2025 to celebrate a birthday. Despite it being hurricane season, the weather was beautiful, with minimal rain and plenty of sunshine.

Unfortunately, our room had no hot water throughout the stay. The resort offered to move us to what they classified as an upgraded room, but we were already in one with a large ocean-view balcony and didn’t want to trade that for a pool-view. The WiFi was unreliable across the resort, which was frustrating since our phones were in Airplane Mode. The Inclusive Collection app was inaccurate and often listed incorrect restaurant information, including hours and closures. We waited over two hours for a table at Gohan, one of only two dinner options open that night, even though the resort seemed fairly quiet.

The “rooftop bar” looked nothing like the photos online, and the lobby bar was very small. Overall, the food was disappointing. Aside from the outstanding service from Luis and Lesly, the only positives were the Preferred Club lounge (despite poor food) and my massage with Terry at the spa.

We will not be returning to Secrets Aura and would not recommend it. Unless you plan to book within the Preferred Club, it’s not worth the stay — and even then, it’s questionable.

Mixed feelings, it was relaxing and pretty good. Just wish it would have been a little better.

Hotel staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Especially the nice lady server at the french resturant (only female server at the time but I'm horrible at remembering names). The staff is what really shines at the different resturants, pools, bars, etc. The resort it self needs some love and attention. The outside of a lot of buildings are crumbling and have reminants of vine roots and mold/moss patches. our room had a few broken items in it and the room the other couple we traveled with had to be given a new room the day we checked in because they discovered the airconditioning wasn't working. Then a few days later the room they were given had the door lock stop working. It just died in the unlocked position. hotel staff were quick to get people up there to fix it, it just took half a day to actually get the door lock working again. While food is well seasoned and they have a decent variety of dishes, there are cheaper ingredients being used under the wrong titles. Like the filet mignon was chuck roast cut to the size of a filet. The grain of the meat was going the wrong direction for a filet, it was tough, and fat ribbons that a filet doesn't have lol. Buffet resturant left a lot to be desired. Long story short, of all the vacations and resorts I've visited in both cancun and cozumel, we expected better from Aura at the price point we paid. Again, the staff are complete gems and doing their darnest to make you happy. The resort could just stand an infusion of money to give it a face lift and give the resturants the ingredients to make the proper dishes. From the flavor of the food, the chefs have the tallent to make great things, they just need someone to do better shopping for them.
