A total vibe

RIU Cancun

The hotel is located on a beautiful beach with fantastic views. Every square inch of the hotel and property was immaculate. The pool was great. The staff was friendly, helpful and competent. The entertainment was fun- trivia games, shows, water activities. The White Party at sister hotel Riu Caribe was so much fun! The only thing I would say needs improvement is the food at the buffet. There were a lot of food choices, but it just didn’t taste very good. The food was better at the sit down restaurants. After 10pm, there was nothing available to eat except nachos and refrigerated sandwiches.

Great stay again

We stayed Sept 19-26 2025 second time this year and again the resort was great and your staff goes above and beyond with service. Several of the staff remember who we are especially David in the lobby bar who with everyone he sees remembers what we drink 👍👍. The staff in the restaurants worked hard to take care of the guests and housekeeping also does an excellent job to make sure the rooms are clean and comfortable. Our only complaint (not really) it would be nice to have a handrail by the stairs close to the swim up pool bar. See you end of April 2026

Think twice about staying here!!!

I stayed here for my birthday trip this year. Upon checking in, I mentioned that I would be celebrating my birthday in a few days and kindly asked if there was any way of getting a free upgrade. The person immediately said no and told me rather tersely that it would be an additional charge per night's stay. I asked I was at least in an upper floor and was put on the 8th with a not-so-great view. (As an aside, I got a few balloons on my bed. I turned 61, not 4) The room was adequate but nothing special. I didn't think that the electric was working and called reception to tell them. I was told that the extra room card needed to placed in a white box just inside the door. The resort itself was nice and staff worked very hard at keeping it clean. For the most part the food was okay and the specialty restaurants were just a step above that with the exception of the steakhouse. I went to the steakhouse and approached the podium and stated that it was just myself dining. "Leo" took me through a door and proceeded to try and seat me in a dark corner behind a wall or some sort of partition. When I asked if this was the steakhouse, Leo let out an audible sigh while rolling his eyes. He turned on his heel without saying anything to me, went through the door without holding it for me. He sat me and left without saying anything to me. As for my 8 ounce strip steak? It was so full of fat and gristle that I couldn't cut it let alone chew it. I didn't bother sending it back because the whole experience had turned me off. I wound up getting something from the buffet. Now I understand that it was an all adult all inclusive resort but the drunkenness just really got out of hand. There was a lot of people yelling, some fighting as well as people falling down drunk. I even witnessed a man who was so drunk that he passed out and was being wheeled to his room by staff in a wheelchair. I get that it's up to the guests to drink and have fun but when it gets beyond that, appropriate staff should intervene. So my stay left me at a loss. I will not return to this property nor would I recommend it either. I'm just wondering if all Riu resorts are of the same caliber...,

Another great trip

We've stayed here many times. Its a great value for the price. Service is always great! Very accommodating staff and friendly. My only negative comment is its getting a little out dated. I know they have remodeled some of there locations and built some new ones. This is one of them that needs a little facelift.

Amazing resort

Excellent service and food. The in pool bar was my favourite and the beach as well. The entertainment staff was amazing as well, especially Adriana. Amazing energy and even better dancer. The Riu parties were also crazy!

Couples 40th birthday trip

Overall a great 7 night trip here at Riu Cancun. Staff were all amazing, friendly and always welcoming and helpful.

The rooms could do with bringing up to a better standard as they are very basic and obviously not part of the 5* rating.

The mini bar in the room is definitely NOT the brands shown on the label! The vodka which should have been Smirnoff was definitely not and contained something else as it gave me instant heartburn after a mouthful and made my nose sting and eyes water when taking a smell of it.

All the staff worked tirelessly and as we are not used to tipping especially with all inclusive resorts we did here as the tip culture in general is crazy! But the staff here from the cleaners to the bar and entertainment staff work extremely hard and always with a smile on their faces to ensure you have a good time no matter what so we ripped as and when we could and it was always appreciated. Tipping in general was between 20-60 peso’s.

Riu party’s are a must!! They are all inclusive with transfers and are on every other night all themed so get your outfits sorted for them nights and you faces painted next to the main entrance by the RIU party team.

A few horror stories on here about drink spiking and theft’s etc! But other than seeing a few people overly drunk who were in the pool all day drinking then going over their limit and eventually throwing their ring up and having to be tended too by the helpful staff going above and beyond to see that they are okay and safe that was it.

Will definitely consider going back here in the future without hesitation.

RIU Cancún

This is my 6th time at this hotel. Excellent service. Easy layout of hotel. The beach is a key factor for consistently going back to this hotel.

Fantastic hotel but very focused on Mexican, South American guests.

Food choices in all restaurants and buffet was absolutely fantastic. We loved it all. Absolutely immaculately clean everywhere always. Service brilliant, waiters and bar men work so hard all day and cleaners, all staff brilliant.
Entertainment staff got on our nerves. Too loud around the pools all day and their English was poor. Very much catered was Spanish speaking.
Evening entertainment also poor due to very poor English speaking. Live bands sang in Spanish only, very very very annoying. Hard to understand what was going on when games were taking place. We had guts full after few nights so went out for a few beers when bands playing. Shows put on were pretty good as no speaking, just dancing.
The two girl entertainers were very very annoying with their squeaky voices in Spanish all day. English very poor.

Incredible trip

S/o hotel Riu the trip was incredible let’s do it again. Me and my friends had mad fun. I hope we will return one day.
