Nice resort, good value
TL;DR - Good resort for families with good food, nice pool, and okay beach. Would return.Good - Food at buffets are great with high quality and wide variety for all diets. The BBQ restaurant is amazing we went back 2 times. Pool is nice but deep in most the area (wish we had a float). Lots of wildlife. Dressel Divers are awesome. Family friendly with lots of activities for all ages. Our teens did air rifles, bow and arrow, volleyball, and kayaks. We don't have little kids but they were seen with staff doing activities all around resort.
Meh/Bad - Summer is sargassum season - the first 50-100 feet from the beach is kinda gross. The resort is "green" and doesn't have plastic water bottles cold ready to go - gotta get water outside the room. Another "green" thing is the power goes off in the room when you leave - fan is off and the AC only goes to 76 degrees - bit balmy. There are not plugs by the bedside for phones or clocks. Only plugs are behind the TV and lamps. Frozen drinks from bar are just meh... Bar drinks at the lobby bar are excellent. On arrival IGH has a high pressure to attend a sales pitch for what I believe is a time share type pitch - not a fan. I'm an early riser but if you are not the wildlife on resort is noisy around sunrise - be warned. Most shows don't start until 9:30pm - way too late for me. Staff slow to pick up cups from the day before around the pool area.

My family enjoyed our stay at iberostar quetzal. It was our kids (6 and 7 years old) first time in Mexico. Almost everything was good. The rooms are in need of updating. The ceiling fan in my kids room looked like it was going to fall from the ceiling when turned on. The water wasn't draining well in the shower and the shower head wasn't working as well as it should. The Riu next door was super loud with the compactor in the morning. Every morning around 6am we'd be woken up to the sound of cans and bottles being smashed in the compactor and that would continue until we finally got out of bed. The pools are a little awkward. The main pool is deeper than it should be. I think most of the pool was about 5 feet deep, which isn't ideal for kids or even adults that are just looking to chill out with a drink in hand. The beach is probably usually beautiful but it was full of sargassum when we were there. Aside from that, the resort is beautiful and lush with a jungle atmosphere. My kids loved seeing all the animals. The food was pretty good from the breakfast buffet, to the hotdogs, burgers, nachos, and ice cream around the pool for lunch, to the dinners at night. The entertainment team was good with the pool activities and shows at night. They could upgrade their sound system by the pool though. You can only hear the music if you were right there at the shallow portion of the pool. All in all we might come back after they renovate the rooms, although I assume the pool situation is what it is. I can't imagine they're going to do anything to make the pool less deep, but it's a shame because it would be much more enjoyable if it was about a foot shallower. We might check out the iberostar lindo on our next trip.

Celebrating 50th
Great experience overall ( service, food, and the staff). Clean property & Great variety of food @ the buffet. There is no golf course on this property, but they were very kind to organize an 18-hole round for a good price. Kudos Ivonne and Ron @ the resort.
Relaxing, enjoyable and great nature theme.
We met our friends for a trip to Iberostar. We found the resort and nature theme to be very relaxing and enjoyable. We loved being able to go on the different paths through the trees and see wildlife. Food was good, but you have to make sure you reserve the dinner spots in advance since they fill up fast. Breakfast was great each morning. We also rented one of the cabanas and I would definitely recommend that. It was cheap and a nice spot to have available. The beach also was cleaned every day to try and remove as much of the sea grass as possible and I thought they did a great job with this.
My experience after 3 days.
Everything is good. Entertainers are soooo good. And my kids love star camp. Shows, activities are so good 😊 Cris and Abigail had been so good to me and my family. Paco and Karen from star camp too. Really profesional.Hotel in general is good. The rooms are just so outdated, that’s all. Not enough outlets where to plug our devices. And shower sucks. Not enough pressure. And I just wish the kids club would have a better water park.
That’s why my 4 stars.
Fab time
We had a wonderful time here. The scenery was stunning and the wildlife was plentiful. Food was lovely! Raul the waiter in the sports bar was very friendly and kept the tequila flowing. I would definitely recommend this hotel!Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Wildlife, Waves & World-Class Food – Thank Me Later 😎
We stayed at Iberostar Waves Quetzal in the second week of September 2025 and had an amazing time. The grounds are beautifully kept, and the wildlife was such a bonus we haven’t experienced at other resorts. The beach was gorgeous, soft sand and minimal sargassum. Rain showers came and went quickly, leaving lots of sunshine. Playa’s market and even local ruins are within walking distance, which was perfect for exploring.The pool is huge, clean, and never crowded (though it is quite deep—bring a floatie!).
The food was outstanding, with incredible quality and variety—we even enjoyed lobster at the buffet one night.
Worth noting: there’s no poolside drink service, but that led us to the adult pool bar where Daniels, the bartender, made our trip extra special. He’s friendly, fun, played great music and makes the best drinks—definitely ask for his special creation!
Overall, Iberostar Waves Quetzal exceeded our expectations and we’d happily return.

Nice holiday
I was there in 9 September for 9 days it was really nice the beach and the sea food by the beach , Monkeys , animals and the jungle ,Nice cocktails in the bars , but the club it’s very small and they close before 1:00 am
We like different choice of the food not only Mexican ….
Thanks for Paco he work in the reception really he was very helpful and he smile and very friendly, not like all . The most important have to be friendly and make it easy for the guests because they come from far away some guests especially there and try to sort for them if they need something and help them and take it easy and if they need to talk of manager for they say something or team leader of reception no problem.
By the way the hotel very nice and very clean and i will come back again .
