Great customer service

The resort was great overall! The only small issue was that my room wasn’t ready when I arrived around 3:30 p.m. The only available rooms at the time were upgrades that required an additional fee. However, I spoke with Mitey, who was extremely helpful. She apologized for the inconvenience and kindly upgraded our room free of charge. Excellent customer service!

Best holiday in a long time!!

First time in Cancun and not sure what to expect . But I needn't have worried it was everything I expected and more.
Hotel was fantastic ,right on the beach which was clean, safe and with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas .Loads of fish so make sure you have waterproof cameras!!
Rooms excellent , and very attentive staff. Can't fault any of them. New towels every evening , mini bar filled every other day,even bed turned down at night.
Restaurants, all excellent tried them all!! Steak bar very popular .( you have to queue to get in this one!) Rest of them we got in straight away without any bookings .
Buffet breakfast and dinner , was super,so much choice and staff very attentive .
There was also a 24 hour snack bar, coffee and cake bar and lunchtime snack at pool bar.

Only bad thing to say about holiday was it was very humid, (it rained most afternoons for an hour or so) but didn't stop us from sunbathing or getting a tan.But towels and costumes didn't dry outside.

DISAPPOINTING>

lovely hotel with great staff and lovely rooms but there are a few downsides, the buffet food isn't the best but the other restaurants were better. 2 out of the 6 bars close at 6pm as they are poolside bars and one is a coffee bar and one serves food 24/7 so technically there are only 2 bars for entertainment which is really not good, we went over to the riu cancun disco but the humidity is so bad as soon as you step out of the hotel that it is not good walking back and forwards, the disco consisted of a small square room with no air conditioining so you only lasted about 5 minutes because of the stifling heat. if you want to sunbathe all day then it'll be fine but a lot of the time the weather isn't good so it is boring with nothing to do and the sunbeds don't match the standard of the hotel as they are not comfortable. after paying nearly 2 thousand pound and travelling on a 10 hour flight the hotel was a disappointment so i certainly won't be returning.

Great experience.

Great costumer service, Gym needs new equipment pretty much everything is broken. But the hotel and the service is great, I can't wait to come back.

Excellent all round

Before we start our review we would like to just say something. After reading some scathing attacks on the Hotel with some telling us not to go, we thought it was a bit much, as people including ourselves had been looking forward to our holiday for some months, then to read that , we thought what have we done. Upon arrival the Staff were smart and efficient, the Reception was fantastic and check in was great. A glass of fizz given us upon arrival. Thinking about some of the reviews, I went outside to read the signs to see if we had the right hotel. I always say you want 3 things from a Hotel. Cleanliness, Good Food & Good Staff. The Hotel was spotless, the Staff were great & the Food was very good. The rest of the Holiday is up to you, they have done their bit.
The Staff were smart, respectful, waiter service round the pools and on the beach, We were pleasantly surprised. Just go and enjoy your Holiday

Another excellent stay

Once again, a fantastic stay at Riu Palace Las Americas. This hoter is beautiful; the rooms very spacious (we had a suite - fantastic!)
The staff really makes you feel like family - each and every one takes customer care and service to a whole new level of excellence. Maria at the fromd desk was most helpful; Rico at the Italian - well, lets just say he was a shining example of what customer service can and should be. The hotel is fantastic - the staff is outstanding. We will be returning!

Great hotel and holiday

To be honest never got a great location looking over the air con units of the Riu hotel next door which was a noise nuisance. That said could see across the lake south. Staff were very attentive and always made sure the drink was flowing. Food in buffet and a La carte was great but the restaurants filled up super quick. Swimming pools really good and very clean with plenty of shade nearby.

Derogatory

We god married here in 2010 and before hand we stayed in many establishments but when we wed it was fabulous! We stayed again in 2018 We were there this week commencing 22:10/25 it was so bad! I seen a woman vomit in the pool and I told you this had happened and you told me this would be dealt with an hour after reporting they were still there in the pool! We paid much money for an 11th night stay! I have been 3 times I will never visit again! 5 stars more like 3

Fantastic Resort!

We've stayed at a dozen or so resorts in the area and Las Americas is our favorite. I read many comments prior to booking so I'd like to address some common complaints and some of my thoughts.
The Food:
This was our second trip to this resort I don't understand why people would complain about the food. Breakfast is standard resort fair and the lunch buffet is better than most places I've stayed. There's also lunch options served near the pool (not my thing). The worst option is the 24-hr snack area. There are dinner 5 restaurants (I think). The steakhouse aka Black and White is more desirable. It opens at 6pm and we waited in line 30-45 minutes early to get a table. Other restaurants didn't have any wait while we were there. There's also a little place in the lobby that serves coffee, milk shakes, muffins and sandwiches...the milkshakes are fabulous!
The Rooms:
There were many negative comments about the A/C in the rooms. Make sure the balcony door is completely closed because the A/C shuts off when the door is barely open. I can confirm that there aren't enough outlets! We bring 2 extension cords. The beds and pillows were ok.
The Crowd:
We've been to this resort in the Spring and it was rowdy in the swim up bar area. We just returned (October) and it was an older crowd. Things still got rowdy in the party pool, but it wasn't as crazy. Overall the people were respectful and thankfully no one brought their bluetooth speaker to ruin the atmosphere.
The Entertainment:
There's a good mix of things to do. There's a large open air theater for shows and live music and a small dance floor. There's a classy indoor bar area that also has live music/piano. And of course there's pool activities. Additionally, 4 days per week there is a shuttle to take guests to the Riu Caribe Resort a few miles away for a Riu Party that includes party/dance music with dancers and foam drops into the pool on the guests.
The Service:
The staff was absolutely awesome. Housekeeping wasn't the best - from time to time we noticed some things. Twice the fridge wasn't re-stocked and sometimes we didn't get towels and the tissues ran and weren't restocked.
The Beach:
We aren't beach people, but it looks nice enough.
Overall: Fantastic time and we will be back!

Memorable trip!

We visited Cancún to celebrate our sister’s 30th birthday and chose Riu Palace Las Américas because of the great reviews and our past experiences with other RIU resorts. The consistent quality and service are what keep bringing us back — and this trip reminded us exactly why.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. Viri at the front desk was exceptional — kind, professional, and incredibly thoughtful. She went above and beyond to make sure our celebrations were special, not only for my sister’s birthday but also for my pregnant wife, which meant so much to us.

Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotless — truly great value for the price. A huge thank-you to the housekeeping team, who worked tirelessly to keep everything pristine. Their attention to detail and constant smiles made our stay even better.

The restaurant and beach staff were equally amazing. They remembered us each day, checked in often, and made every meal and beach moment feel personal. Their warmth and genuine hospitality stood out.

I made sure to write down the names of everyone who made our trip unforgettable — these incredible people are the reason we’ll continue choosing RIU resorts:

The hotel is in a great location and has a great beach. However it is in dire need of updating. It looks like it was decorated by Blanch from the Golden Girls. Think 1980s Florida. The I termed is from the 1980s also yet they want you to use an app for everything. You can’t charge spa or any purchases at the hotel shop to the room. You can’t have any food even from their food places in a bar..which made no sense. The food was mediocre at best and we ate at tot her restaurants in town most of the time. We would not stay there again.

Room key problems

This hotel REALLY needs to do something about their room keys. They always get disabled no matter how hard I try to keep it away from my phone. And it is such a hassle to get it "fixed" at the front desk, when the blasted card is going to get disabled anyway. I had to do this multiple times per day and it really sours my experience here. This is the only hotel with this problem out of the ones I ever stayed. So I don't know what is going on.

Plus the housekeeping cleans the room really late. Despite them hanging out in the same floors since early mornings. I had to wait past lunch hour for my room to be cleaned. Maybe put more than one housekeeper in the rooms to speed up the time.

It's also a shame the only restaurants open during lunch are the buffet and Italiano. The more decent restaurants won't open until dinner.

I am still enjoying my time here despite these setbacks. The pool and beach are beautiful, the food is overall decent and the staff is friendly.

Overall great stay!

Let me say this first, I’m in no way affiliated with any resort/travel company. Just a guy trying to help someone find a place to vacation (or not). We had a great time at RIU Las Americas. I am 40 and I would say this is geared to a little bit more of a younger crowd, even though there is a decent mix.

Cons:

- A little younger of a crowd, seemed like a lot of mid 20ish people who can’t hold their liquor (and they were Irish!),
- Their top shelf vodka was Abolute. I’m a Tito’s man myself. But no Grey Goose or Belvedere.Such a small “con” but I struggled to find cons about the place.
- Very limited room service options. It is 24/7 but the options are still limited even if it’s not late night.
- Might be a tad outdated but not a reason to shy away from the location.

Pros:
- It’s clean. The restaurants, the pools, the property. Very clean place to stay.
- The views. Ocean front vs ocean view, I don’t think is worth the up charge. The ocean view was beautiful.
- The food was really good. The Krystal gourmet restaurant had this creamy rice with lobster that was delightful.
- The service. July and Eduardo down at the swim up bar were awesome and had a great sense of humor. The pool side service, every restaurant, all, had top notch service as well.
- The 24 hour lounge. Had snacks, finger foods, pizza, and bottled water at your disposal 24 hours a day.
- Strong martinis at the bar by the RIU stage. Again, phenomenal service there as well.
- The entertainment was always going on! Between the late night entertainment on the stage and in the pool, there was something going on a lot of the time mid day through late night. There are also 2 other quieter pools if you’re not into that so you’re not forced to be there for the pool entertainment if you don’t want to be.

All in all, we would definitely stay here again. I gave it 4/5 because we have stayed at a few resorts that I would rank slightly ahead of this one. But those were also significantly more expensive to stay at. Don’t shy away from RIU Palace Las Americas. We had a great experience!

We've been here many times and every time we love it more!

Abu from the lobby bar is just fantastic and we kind of come back to see him. As well as the fantastic beaches and view from my patio/balcony. The food is delicious and we haven't been disappointed in anything! The people that work here are incredible. Thank you Isai, Benito, Andres, Alexas, Arbey and of course Enrique from the pool! Abu is incredible and funny at the lobby bar ❣️
