Very large busy but clean resort

This resort is huge! The rooms were old. Bring an extension cord to plug in close to bed. The pool was crowded, the food was amazing. The only spot with air conditioning besides the rooms was the sports bar which is kind of away from everything. Staff was too large to get to know anyone.
Overall we had a great time with family.

All staff were polite friendly from top to bottom they could not do enough for you we have been to quite a few places and Bahia Principe tops the lot 😀
But since "Hyatt" took over your standards have dropped 👎 they have put the prices up for less what you where giving 🤔 😒 So we are sorry to say we'll be looking at other places for our holidays unless we hear there has been changes hopefully for the best

My paradise

Location is good not far from the beach
But 1-20 mins from the airport which isn’t bad as the coach transfer has AC
The atmosphere is amazing everyone is friendly and the staff can’t do enough for you as they make the holiday so much more worth it
The rooms are big and spacious with a balcony and your fridge gets restocked every day
I love it there it’s my paradise I’ve been twice now and can’t wait to go back
But you’ll have to go to make up your own mind each person is different

Birthday getaway

This was our fourth visit to the resort. We were initially hesitant to return since our previous experiences had been somewhat bland. However, this time was completely different — from the moment we arrived, we truly felt the warmth and hospitality.

Samantha made our check-in seamless and even arranged for us to get our rooms earlier than expected. She was very thorough in explaining all our VIP perks. We received a pink wristband that granted us access to the three sister resorts, which was a wonderful bonus. Thank you, Samantha, for your exceptional service!

Alondra made magic happen for our Sofía and arranged for a late checkout. Thank you, Alondra, for your extraordinary service! Tomas and Mauricio (Kukulcan), Eddy (Portofino), and Fabian (Akumal Buffet) went above and beyond to make Sofía's birthday extra special. We truly appreciate the kindness and attention they showed us.

We also visited BPG Akumal and BPG Tulum, and each resort had its own unique charm. Our granddaughter especially enjoyed the waterpark at BPG Coba, the beach at Akumal, and the pool at Tulum. The grounds were immaculate, the beach was beautiful, the pools and rooms were spotless, and the food and drinks were fantastic.

We’re already looking forward to returning!

There’s gotta be a better Hotel than this

The hotel is under renovation currently so after walking around in circles, looking for restaurants to find out is actually in Another location was quite disappointing as no one told us. We went as a group there was three of us. We asked to be side-by-side for our rooms. They claimed it was the same building. I was on the first floor, but I had to physically walk outside and go around the building to reach my friends there is no pass-through. The rooms are quite large and spacious with a king size bed, a couch, a desk and a bistro table.. the bathroom was renovated nicely, except for the mold accents that they added. There was mold throughout the bathroom.. my tub did not drain and they kept fixing it after they cleaned it every day. The facility has a huge pool, which is nice but only one pool and it closes at 6:30 PM same with the hot tub one hot tub, which has three hot tubs within the one large tub and it’s not hot. It’s about the same temperature as the pool. It also closes at 6:30. The trolleys are hit or miss sometimes we got them right away other times we had to wait 15 to 20 minutes and then we would see two or three in a row luckily to walk anywhere it is not far and we were at one of the back buildings. Building eight. They offer shampoo, conditioner, and body wash that are just subpar no lotion at all . My mini fridge barely kept anything cold maybe a little on the cool side, but certainly not cold . make sure you bring plenty of mosquito spray.!! I would additionally recommend bringing some kind of thermos to fill up your drinks. I was additionally very disappointed when I purchased some items from one of the vendors that they had near the lobby one night we agreed upon a price and when I looked at my credit card, it was $30 higher than what was discussed. I went to the vendor and he made a bunch of lies up why it was more money and then he gave me $10 cash back. I complained to the hotel and I’m going to report it to my credit card.. the food was just OK but then again I’m a pescatarian. At one point, I said it was quite sad that the best food was mac & cheese and pizza.. They had a really good cucumber salad for the first two days after that I don’t know what happened to it. I never saw it again.. We went to three restaurants to the three were OK. It was the Japanese restaurant that I got lost finding, I did not enjoy the soup I had nor the desserts the first dessert I could not eat so he brought another one. It was awful.- it was crunchy. The sugar was not dissolved whatsoever.. if you wanna go to the beach, good luck it’s gonna cost you extra to go to the sister facility. Don’t waste your time or your money.! I took a video, but it does not appear that I could download it on this application. Very limited on activities in the evening. They do have a kids waterpark. They also have a hammock area, but I would not recommend it unless you want to take a bath in bug spray..

Bahia Principe Grand Coba

Sorry for the long review it’s a bit in depth but if your thinking of going you should read on. Stayed at the Coba 5* in September fo 2 weeks and what a disappointment, in my opinion it would be lucky to get a 3* and I have stayed in better 3* AI in the past.
The plus points were the grounds which are kept pristine the staff are very friendly and the pool is very nice although it is very slippery when entering even though it has a hand rail. Bad points are numerous and I have pics to prove it and will be passing them all on to TUI.

1. The rooms are very dated and the finish for a 5* is terrible with ceiling paint 2 inches down the walls glass shower screen full of mould along the bottom. Also we were put on the second floor although we had told them my husband has mobility problems and there was no lift or hand rail leading to our room which would have help his balance problem so made our stay incredibly difficult. Also the mosquitoes at this resort are a major problem and numerous people including us had multiple bites and after buying extra expensive products there was no difference and the bites continued.

2. The AI buffet is the worst I have ever seen its so repetitive and all meals were cold, I complained to the TUI rep after we had had enough and the last couple of days a micro wave was put out to warm our food surely that is not 5*. Had 3 themed nights in 2 weeks they were 2 Mexican and 1 Spanish lol same food more or less. Every day was the same choice with very little change, on weekends the trays of food were empty in minutes due to the influx of locals who just stripped the food in minutes you then had to stand and wait for them to be refilled which was not to fast, the resort was taken over by local people who came in their hundreds who would just walk in front of you while waiting to see what was on offer. Also there were no cushion seats and we had to sit on hardwood chairs which was very uncomfortable and not becoming of a advertised high end hotel.

3. The pool where the bar was is very slippery when entering and my husband actually fell into the pool a couple of times when entering even though he was holding the hand rail, it was also very unkempt and cigarette butts were left for days under the sun beds floating in water left by bathers, and with only one person working the bar it was an absolute nightmare to get a drink when you were thirsty especially the weekends when it was gridlock due to the influx of locals.

4. We were told that there was some maintenance going on when we booked but would not disturb the holiday makers. Well the quiet pool area we were expecting was completely closed off as this area was being converted into another resort called Tequila which will be adults only in December, so we were stuck now having to use the busy loud pool which was a complete nightmare. Even the section with the pool bar was a nightmare with it being full of local children running wild, with their parents drinking at the bar which I think is not what you would have expected. Parents with young children sat on the steps into the pool drinking and boogie boxes blasting out their music while the children ran round crazy. The area around the pool bar where we sat on the sun beds was left with cigarette butts floating in over spill from the pool water under these beds for days.

5. The pool bar was constantly running out of beer, spirits and ice not ideal I think in the heat of the day. The snack bar at the side of this pool was closed for the 2 weeks we were there. The Tiles around the edge of the pool bar were broken with sharp edges of adhesive exposed and in a complete mess, the beds are also filthy.

6. The beach was extremely rocky as you enter and full of sea weed, you are also a fair walk from the beach which is located at the Akumel section of the resort but you can get 1 of the free golf buggy’s that are around all the time.

7. The seating in the lobby we found the be very uncomfortable hard table and chair type furniture and no soft seating at all which would have been a welcome addition.

8. The inside theatre next to the sports bar is nothing short of a disgrace where shows are still going on. The ceiling is coming down because of the rain the chairs are all broken through much use and the walls and pillars are full of bird mess that looks as if its been there for quite some time which you cant see in the evening when the shows are going on but clearly visible if you walk through during the days.
MY final word is that if you are looking for a quality peaceful 5* AI holiday in the sun and not be in a place that is a cross between Benidorm and Butlins you should avoid this place. I have honestly stayed in better 3* AI hotels in the Caribbean region where the welcome from locals is much warmer towards holiday makers. All in all we were glad to leave for home and after reading other reviews the management seem to reply with we will pass on the messages to the relative departments for future improvements but it seems they have the same probs now as in the past so looks like they don’t take any notice.

Very disappointing experience – definitely not a 5-star hotel

We stayed here recently and unfortunately our experience was far from what you’d expect from a 5-star hotel. The rooms are quite old and dated, which is already visible in the photos online, so we were prepared for that and it wasn’t really an issue.

However, every single night of our stay we were woken up several times by people shouting or singing loudly while walking past the rooms in the middle of the night. Of course, this isn’t directly the hotel’s fault, but the fact that there was absolutely no staff around to manage or stop this kind of behavior is unacceptable. It felt like there was no control or supervision at all.

From Thursday to Sunday, the situation got even worse — the hotel gets completely invaded by locals, and everything loses quality and professionalism. Food trays in the restaurant empty within minutes, the pools become overcrowded and feel like public pools where anyone can walk in, and the bar is so busy that you end up waiting 15 to 30 minutes just to get a drink.

For a place that calls itself a 5-star hotel, this was a terrible and frankly infuriating experience. We left feeling disappointed and frustrated — definitely not worth the price or the rating.

Comfortable stay and good value.

This was a last minute choice for myself and I must say it was very good value. Personally I enjoyed it and it was fine for me but if you’re looking for something slightly more refined or have previously stayed in Dreams/Secrets this probably isn’t for you.
As other reviews have mentioned the weekends do get VERY busy with a noticeable influx of locals. Also if kids are not your thing then this resort won’t be your cuppa tea as it’s definitely set up to cater for and entertain them.
All in all for the price paid it was more than enjoyable.

Ruined what’s meant to be a holiday of a lifetime !

this is a 2/3 star hotel at a push horrendous food and customer service is shocking.

manage to upgrade our food package which you don’t expect to have to do on a 5 star holiday @ a cost of $20 per day per person so a family of 4 for 2 weeks went up at the expense of excursions

Bar staff are good and drinks are decent

This hotel caters for mexicans at weekends whose kids run wild and parent stay at swim up bar all weekend

A nice relaxing week !

Stayed at the Coba 4T* in October for 1 week. I visited 7 years ago and can honestly say that the experience has been affected by cost cutting .In my opinion it would be lucky to get a 3* . Whether this was because a lot of the rooms were being renovated and they cut the budget accordingly for food and entertainment, I am not sure.
The grounds which are kept pristine the staff are very friendly and the pool is very nice and clean.

1. The rooms are very dated nothing changed in 7 years. The staff kept them clean and I did not detect any smells which other people have stated.
The mosquitoes at this resort are a major problem and numerous people including us had multiple bites despite using spray day and night and spraying the room.

2. The AI buffet at Kukulkan is repetitive and all meals were luke warm and the variety has been scaled back. Every day was the same choice with very little change, The staff were amazing, so helpful and attentive. In the Piscis Snack Bar, the trays of food were empty in minutes . They were not fast in refilling them. The staff behind the counter were miserable and looked totally fed up .

3. The pool bar was manned by 1 person and when there was an influx of locals , they could not cope with the excessively large orders which meant large waiting times. The self service drinks were very watered down. The pool and surround were kept very clean. The sunbeds were in desperate need of a good clean.

4. The building work was covered by a screen and there was no noise.

5. The beach at Coba was very quiet, no seaweed on the day we visited. You do need to catch a buggy to get there .

6. The lobby bar was great, never had to wait to be served. Staff very friendly.

7. The theatre shows appear to have been scaled back however the magician and circus show were really good.

8. In my opinion the entertainment staff make this hotel worthy of 4T. Ronaldo, Haziel, Alexhandro and Antonio and and the young lady worked so hard to include everyone in the daily activities. These people work so hard and speak to everyone . The maintenance staff also very friendly and worked very hard.

9. The A la carte restaurants at Portofino and Mikado were a welcome change and the staff were lovely.

1st time to grand principe coba

The hotel is large with a beautiful lobby and friendly staff had an issue at the start which was rectified and refund given.

I arrived for 4 weeks from the 12th September to October the 10th only had 4 bad days of rain.

Ive managed to book all the restraunts (14) le gormet, don pablo x3, tequila, torguga portifino x2 and my favourite the Japanese x6.

It was mexican independence day 15th/16th September food ran out loads and place was totally full went to the fiesta at the hacendia.

During the stay found food wrongly labeled and Luke warm bar the soup which was red hot plenty to try though for the price you pay.

Gabriel and ofelia really looked after me in the lobby bar great credit to the hotel.

Cocktails was lovely and entertainment had silent discos, bola, darts water polo and singers n bands in.

Was in block 15 ground floor this was a long walk to the lobby and buffet.

Take extra mossie spray least double same with suncream.

If you're a gold member don't bother, they took away all the benefits, Bahia is no longer the go to place, buffet was horrible, meat was dry, no more cooking pasta on the grill, same theme every night. Same old breakfast option. You only had 2 choices for dessert. We did have 2 great servers for breakfast the whole trip and I highly recommend them, Manuel and Aure.
We've been going to bahia over 15 times and lost our business since they've decided to cut staff and cut down on what made them great.
Mexico is not the place to go to at this time either, the airport experience was the worse, they confiscated my 3 bottles of tequila, now it's 100ml, think about that for a minute, they security guy had the oddasity to tell me that he didn't come to my country to visit that we went to his country, what that means is no more Mexico for me, they stole things from my luggage as well, they also inspect your carryon at the gate, really. Just an all around terrible time at the resort and airport.

Disappointing!

We travelled at the end of October with my husband and two kids, and unfortunately, our experience wasn’t as smooth as we had hoped.

Check-in:
The check-in process was an absolute disaster. We had to wait over 90 minutes because a large group arrived before us, and the reception team clearly didn’t know how to handle it. It was chaotic, with people walking in and out for no reason. One of the receptionists, Alondra, seemed completely unbothered — she helped two people, went on a break, came back, helped a few more, then disappeared again, as if there was no rush at all. After nearly a 24-hour journey, we were exhausted and just wanted to settle in. Forget the welcome prosecco and kids’ drinks — that didn’t happen. When we finally checked in with Alberto (I think that was his name), we mentioned that they really need a better system for handling large groups.
Room:
The room itself was fine — clean, comfortable, and the air conditioning worked great.
Pool area:
The pool is large, which is nice, but the atmosphere was completely ruined by big groups blasting their own music from speakers. I’ve never seen that allowed in a hotel before. I asked the lifeguard who to speak to about it, and he said he’d ask them to turn it down, but the next day the same thing happened again with another group. Nobody seemed to enforce any rules. Guests just moved away, and honestly, I didn’t have the patience to deal with it again.
Food:
The food was okay. I mostly stuck to the Mexican options — the rest wasn’t really to my taste. The buffet could get chaotic, with people piling up ridiculous amounts of food and emptying trays completely. We did enjoy the Japanese fire show restaurant and the Peruvian one — both were nice.
Service and tipping:
One thing that really bothered us was the constant expectation for tips. It felt like some staff were only friendly when they expected one, and if you didn’t tip or only left 10%, the attitude changed immediately. It felt very forced and uncomfortable at times.
Tours and sales pitches:
There were people at the entrance trying to sell tours, but it didn’t seem trustworthy. No printed prices — they just looked things up on their phones and changed the prices from one day to the next. Then someone else, dressed like hotel staff, approached us about buying condos, asking for our passport info in exchange for a tour discount. That was too much. We ended up doing our own tour by taking a colectivo to Playa Akumal, where we booked a lovely swimming-with-turtles experience — much better value and less stress.
Overall:
I wouldn’t go back. We got this holiday for a very good price, and now I understand why. Most of the tourists were large Mexican families, which is fine, but many were extremely loud and inconsiderate of others trying to relax.
It’s a shame, because the place has potential — but between the chaotic management, noise, and pushy sales culture, it really wasn’t the relaxing family holiday we hoped for.
