Great getaway!

This was our second visit to this resort. We travel ALOT and have been to tons of adults only in Mexico. This resort is very nice but I don't think it's a 5 star resort. We booked the Premier room so we could experience the upgrades. However, the only upgrades that we saw from our last visit was fresh paint and new decor. The rest was identical. Not worth the upgrade cost in my opinion.

The resort was at very low occupancy which was a little odd for us. When checking out, the bellman told us they only had 9 new arrivals for the entire day. Worst he's seen in his 20 years there. This causes a little concern.

Here are the pro's and the cons..........................

Pros:

1.) Resort is beautiful
2.) Access to numerous resorts
3.) Restaurants were AMAZING and every meal was top notch
4.) Golf cart service was always on time and speedy, never left waiting
5.) Great resort for a morning walk
6.) Lots of pools to choose from
7.) Pool bartender was great
8.) AC was the best I've ever experienced across the entire resort
9.) They added a coffee shop down by the Casitas section. Coffee's, gelato and pastries. (also see con below)
10.) Music at the main pool was great. It played all day, we really enjoyed it.
11.) Plenty of bottle waters left in the room daily
12.) The price keeps bringing us back! Can't beat it.

Cons:

1.) Pools were only cleaned one day while we were there. Probably the dirtiest pools I've seen at all the resorts we've been to.
2.) No pool servers at all (except the day the bartender was slow and came around)
3.) Coffee shop was not consistent with their hours. One day open at 7:45am, the next day not open until 9am. They should open earlier in the morning........after all, that's what coffee is for.
4.) Pool water in August gets VERY warm. Maybe a little too warm. They could use chillers for the warmer months.
5.) Breakfast buffet could use some work, not the best
6.) The entertainment team at the main pool was pretty much non existent. We don't rely on them but some people might.
7.) The health bar on the beach opens early but when we went at 10:30am, we were told they wouldn't open until 11am.
7.) In room refrigerator never got re-stocked our entire stay.

Now don't get me wrong......all of these cons are do-able in my opinion. None are a deal breaker for us. I just wanted to put it all out there for those that it might be. We will be back for sure and actually are already booked for April :)

Exceptional Service & Unforgettable Stay at El Dorado Royale 🌴✨

From the moment we arrived at El Dorado Royale, we felt welcomed, pampered, and cared for by the incredible staff who truly made our stay unforgettable. The resort itself is stunning, but what sets it apart is the team of amazing people who go above and beyond every day.

I’d love to recognize a few standouts who made our vacation extra special:
• Victor & Raphaela (Spa) – Their massages were nothing short of heavenly. They created such a relaxing experience that we left feeling completely rejuvenated.
• Ramon (Beach Butler) – Always attentive with a big smile, Ramon made sure we had everything we needed for the perfect day by the water.
• Jhonny (Butler) – Professional, kind, and always one step ahead of our needs. He truly elevated our experience.
• Ruth (Concierge) – Incredibly helpful and friendly, Ruth made planning our suppers effortless and stress-free.
• Julio (Fuentes Bar) – Julio’s energy, skill, and hospitality kept the atmosphere fun and the drinks flowing.
• Ximena (Activities) – Her enthusiasm and warm personality made pickleball so much fun!
• Edwardo (Activities) – Edwardo was an outstanding pickleball partner who made the game enjoyable for beginners and seasoned players alike.
• Alberto (Candlelight Dinner) – Our romantic dinner was a dream, thanks to Alberto’s flawless service and attention to detail.
• Country Music Performer at the burger grill Kick – Such a fun surprise! His music created a lively and memorable evening.
• Rodo Trio – Their live performance was an absolute treat, adding a magical touch to the resort’s atmosphere.

Every interaction we had at El Dorado Royale was filled with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. This resort doesn’t just offer beautiful surroundings and luxury, it offers a staff that makes you feel like family.

We can’t wait to return and see these wonderful people again. If you’re considering a stay at El Dorado Royale, don’t hesitate, it’s everything you’d hope for and more.

The Flyback Program is a SHAM!

While the resort is lovely, if you decide to buy into Exotic Travelers BE WARNED! They will try to sell you something called The Flyback Program. It sounds great, pay them just over $1,000 and for the next 10 years after you stay at one of the resorts (and provide proof) they will sent you $1,000. COOL! However, our experience is that each year it take longer and longer for them to send your money. Our most recent was staying in November of 2024. All required documents were sent on time. After months of hounding them for payment we were told that payment might arrive by the end of 1st Quarter of 2026! This operation is VERY shady so do NOT fall into this trap! The resorts tend to wash their hands of it and say that it's the business of The Flyback Program to pay what was contracted. However, they are happy to sell the offer to you. So, bottom line...do not fall for these bogus sales offers. What sounds too good to be true reall IS too good to be true!

Staff recognition! 110% loved our stay

This is my second time coming to this resort. Me and my girlfriend came in July and loved it so much we only made it two months in the real world before needing to come back again. The staff here is on another level. The level of passion they put into marking every accommodations is beyond what anyone could imagine. In every restaurant they will always ask for dietary restrictions.

Now I do have to recognize our waiters for the Italian restaurant Jairo. While I am a very adventurous eater my girlfriend prefers to stay in her comfort zone of safe and familiar foods. Jairo took the time to learn what we both enjoyed and would make recommendations on how to modify each order accordingly. Additionally he also would bring an additional plates for us to try. When he would bring each meal he also took the time to explain each meal and a little history about the meal. This was such a high level of service! It also made the meal even more delicious as you can appreciate the level of attention it took to prepare. Our first time dining with him he brought out the chef so we could meet her. The second time dining (2 month layer) we requested to be seated with him and he remembers us and even still remembered what we liked. Since my girlfriend does drink he brought her a special fruit drink that was incredible! He again made all the recommendations on what we would enjoy the most and he was 100% spot on. Our third time dining with him he created some off menu options with a salmon and pasta for me and fried chicken and pasta for my girlfriend. He made a new specially drink with chamomile tea and lemonade. When we ask him what it was call he named it after us. I seriously hope management recognizes what incredible talent they have with Jairo working there. Never in my life have I had such a great experience!

An additional recognition goes out to Isareli who took care of us our first visit. She went above and beyond to assure everything in our room was taken care of and all reservations. She even helped us find Mexican Doritos (yes there is a difference) since this was my girlfriend only request. She really made us feel like family and will be the reason we continue coming back.

The last recognition is for Eduardo in the entertainment side. Incredibly talented and funny. We took the towel folding class, tie die shirt class and hat painting classes and we love all the memories we made plus being able to bring something home to remember our stay. I’ll have to make another post for a full resort review

Poor service

Low occupancy 20% and they still make you wait until after 3pm to check in . Was offered a room upgrade for $99 a night declined other guest were offer the same room for $35 a night . Safe in room did not work they came and fixed it right away . Breakfast at cocotal the waiters were always goofing off did not want to get drinks for customers poor service , food was cold always early in the morning when they opened later the food was warm to hot. Same food everyday tamales were dry and tasteless . Food was bad in general at all the restaurants so was service. Beach is not swimmable at el dorado royale . Our concierge Silvia called us on day 5 out of 7 we never met her . Not sure why she bothered to contact us since she did not provide any information about the resort or help us with anything . Went to El dorado maroma was nice we went to eat at the restaurant my husband got sopes and took 1 bite and was throwing up. The waiter seen him brought him another napkin and refilled his glass of water . The waiter said there is something on this plate the has a sour smell to it . We did not eat anything from the restaurant after that . Not enough entertainment during the day extremely boring and no good music playing . At the main pool so people were charged for the Bali beds and others were not charged . Would not recommend this resort to anyone . Our last day there we went to the Italian restaurant at casita there were 4 couples of head of us and they were all told they could not eat there . 2 of the 4 couples were upset that the concierge made the reservation they had to wait 45 minutes before they were able to get in after speaking with someone else concierge. We were there to celebrate a milestone birthday no banner on the door, no fruit or wine in the room , no decorations in the room or bed. No turndown services ..

A Team of delightful people who treat you like family

Recently went with 4 other couples and stayed at Royale. The staff was absolutely amazing, several went above and beyond. Joel at the Mediterranean Restaurant saw my family member in distress as she was needing to go to the hospital and her phone was dead. Joel immediately took his personal phone charger out of his pocket, handed it to us saying take this I don't need it - its yours. His kindness and selflessness was astounding. Alfredo in Cocotal has a memory like a steel trap and the most endearing air about himself. Every morning after our very 1st visit when we would come in he would remember all of our special requests from the 1st visit whether it was a special coffee drink or a side of something - it ALWAYS ended up on our table without us having to ask. He made sure you knew you were important. All of our butlers, Cuau, Fernanda and Ruben were also amazing. They were very attentive and helpful for any and all request no matter how small. Sarai even went into town to get us something that we needed that we couldn't get on property. Irene in the spa/manicure at the Casitas spa was an absolute delight. I was with her way longer than necessary as we were laughing and talking and just lost track of time. EVERYONE who works at the resort is always warm, welcoming and pleasant. We always leave cloths and other items in the room with a note for them to share with the less fortunate. We have been to the resort 3 times now and will definitely be coming back.

WOW

WOW!
We visited El Dorado Royale for 2 weeks in August 2025. Overall, it was an excellent stay:

RESORT: The grounds of the resort are 10/10 for beauty - lush, full of coconut trees, and impeccably maintained gardens; beautiful murals and art installations peppered throughout the resort. We loved the long walking path along the beach. Being a guest at Royale also offers you access to the restaurants at El Dorado Casitas and El Dorado Generations.

This is not a good resort for people who love swimming in the sea, however the sand and relaxation areas by the beach are beautiful and is great if you're looking to relax.

HOTEL ROOM: We booked a basic room at Royale (Luxury Junior Suite) and have no complaints about it. The room was clean (most importantly), the WiFi worked, and we had no issues. We appreciated the amenities - there was a safe, an iron, bathrobes, slippers, a mini-fridge (restocked daily with beer, water and soda), hair dryer, and bathroom amenities.

FOOD AND DRINK: All restaurants are delicious with great services from the staff. We ate the most delicious fry/bake fish lunch in the Palm.

SERVICE: The staff were generally friendly and attentive, creating a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere throughout our stay. Many team members went above and beyond, providing thoughtful service that made our visit special. However, there were some inconsistencies in service—occasionally, we encountered staff who seemed a bit disengaged, which affected the overall experience at times.

Despite these few lapses, most of the team were eager to help and contributed positively to the stay. With a little more consistency and attention to detail, the service could easily match the resort's breathtaking surroundings. All in all, the staff added value to the experience, but there’s room for improvement to make it truly exceptional.

We had exceptional service from: Alberto, Juan & Tanya (server at Spot, Kick, Rincon), Clemente, Joel (Cocotal), Andrea & Juana (smoothie-maker at Health Bar), Eduardo (server at Wine Kitchen), Javier (server at Santa Fe). The coffee and gelato shop (near Casitas) has the best coffee and Fernandez is great! Our concierge – Galilea, was very gentle & helpful. There are many more whose names we could not remember.

Overall, our 2 weeks stay at El Dorado Royale was excellent and we would recommend it to others. The resort was beautiful, the food is delicious (most of the time), the service staff are lovely, the rooms are clean, and the amenities are excellent.

So sad to see the downhill trends ....

So we decided to return once again (13th time) to Mexico and when there the gold standard has always to date been El Dorado Royale. Excellent accomodation, first class food and drink, well maintained grounds and plenty of Bali beds to relax the day away so we were really looking forward to it even if we had to fly TUI (😫).

But the reality soon kicked in on arrival where, unlike on past visits, we were not met with a drink and cool towel before being taken to be booked in but we're basically left to find our own way. We were then taken, as usual, to our room via golf cart. Being early evening by then and with the now imposed booking restaurants via your concierge (which was closed) we were lucky that we were able to find a restaurant (Mediterranean) who could take us. First word of warning - Mediterranean is an extremely cold restaurant so wrap up before you enter.

Ok so new day reasonable sleep and off to get ourselves sorted. Visit to concierge to plan restaurants for at least first few days - no great issue but considering the place was apparently only 35% full seemed a bit unnecessary. Cocotal for breakfast - on first appearance nothing had changed then we noticed no antiseptic gel on reception, limited fruit choices (no berries any longer) bread a little stale, hot food not refreshed so often had to either try and catch staff to ask them or wait. Now these might seem to many to be small points but they reflect the "new" Royale - small corners being cut, money savings here and there things maybe a first timer wouldn't really notice but becomes blatantly obvious to any repeat visitor.

But hey ho we came to relax so headed for "beach" and a Bali bed - and again another shock - many fewer general Bali beds available lots being reserved for Exotic club members or payable (in an all inclusive resort ?). We luckily found a nice spot just at the edge of the site by the Kick restaurant which we then occupied for most of the next 2 weeks - it gave us access to a very small sample of sea which unlike the rest had fewer concrete blocks - no real beach any longer has over the years been degraded completely - Warning number 2 - ignore the beachfront statements in the publicity blurbs there really isn't any form of swimmable beach. Also, and not a hotel issue, the amount of seaweed is overwhelming.

This is starting to sound like a journal of a holiday so I will instead try and outline the good and maybe not so good bits instead.

Good - food in most restaurants is very good, well presented, well made and well served - there are some exceptions. Staff are generally helpful although you will come to hate the word "Hola" 😂. Pools are warm and clean with a number of swim up bars although beware the main pool if you want a quiet holiday.

Not so good - mislabeling of Vegan meals - a number of times we questioned the voracity of Vegan meals as shown on menus only to be told then that actually they weren't vegan. Drink selections - the variety has gone down appreciably and even when supposed to be available we came across a number of instances where they had run out - never know of in old Karisma days. Golf carts - the drivers appear now to excel in ignoring people who are walking whereas always if space would offer lifts - as an example we were walking after our meal from Generations to Royale in the pouring rain and were totally ignored by a number of fairly empty carts heading in our direction - really bad customer service. As I said earlier the number of available Bali beds has reduced appreciably with many being reserved (and on the whole empty) for Exotic club members and hire. No saltwater pool which used to be at least an alternative to the sea. Spa - we have always enjoyed an end of day steam and sauna but this time visited and we're basically told they close at 5 so we went earlier and found neither facilities were on and took ages to warm up meaning that we had little time. When I asked if they could switch them on 15 minutes before we arrived I was flatly told "...come earlier...". Lack of privacy - there is no privacy between the bedroom and bathroom no blind on the glass wall - we were given a blanket to drape over the wall - a real top class hotel solution NOT. Although grounds are still being well looked after there is a severe danger from falling coconuts - might seem laughable but the number of times we heard/saw one falling to the ground feet from a client shows how dangerous a situation it is. Staff are on the whole really nice people who try their hardest - a lady in Rincon was so helpful and caring when I felt ill providing me with hot peppermint tea both there and to take to my room BUT except for Cocotal at breakfast the restaurants seem very understaffed and the staff seem under immense pressure.

Summary - if you have never been there before it is still, in the main taking the warnings into consideration, a nice place but for us, and I am sure most returners, a vastly downgraded Royale from the one we knew and loved.

Would we return again - probably not now which is such a shame.

Get your steps in

Excellent service. Resort is very big don't bring heels although plenty buggys we walked 20,000 steps each day which we enjoyed getting our steps in. Food amazing. We ordered a swim up room although it wasn't really swim up so that was a little disappointing.

On the whole outstanding

Two sisters on holiday, we had a swim up room, for us not worth it..no twin beds in swim ups, we had to share but in fairness the bed was ENORMOUS, sitated. Enter of resort so handy for everything. Everything was spotless, rooms, facilities, restaurants, pools all the staff were fabulous. A real special shout out to Geraldo, one of the golf cart drivers. I’m not good at walking, he absolutely made my holiday always there when I needed a ride, really looked after us. A real credit to the Team. We’re there any negatives…..our favourite lunch restaurant at SPOT (pool) is now a Taco buffet and sadly not our favourite, having been guests 6 times before we always had a fabulous salad bar there - now no more. No problem booking evening restaurants by far our favourites KamPai visited 4 nights. The Italian at Cassitas 3 times, always a great dinner. Try breakfast overlooking the ocean at Generstions, it’s a buggy ride but worth it. The buffet breakfast is amazing, free flowing Mimosa’s ! Slightly disappointed with the evening entertainment, the 3 tenors were a no show. On the whole we always found something to entertain us! Drinks were great, top drawer, not local, apart from the cocktails at the pools, however, just ask for your favourite tipple to be added, mudslide with a rum topper! Pina colada with a Malibu topper! Wine very palatable. Nothing the barman cannot fix, if you have a specific cocktail just give him the recipe! Would do we go again, and make 8 visits, jury’s out, it’s a 10 hour flight, a 16 hour travel day to fly and flop, we said not but the staff, restaurants, drinks, rooms and ambience make it well worth it! Guys have a fabulous holiday if this review helps.

Don’t book here

I am going to start by saying that all of the staff in the front desk, concierge and the restaurants were all amazing. The food was amazing and the grounds were very well kept. I do want to make sure that I clarify that by the grounds I means the landscaping, the plants, trees, nature.

Walking into the room, it was not what I expected. When I booked the room that I wanted a big deciding factor on my room choice was the pictures that I saw on the Destination Weddings website. The room was completely different. The building was old. There was mold and the room had this weird smell to it. We walked out to the pool and the pool chairs were very worn and old. There were all sorts of stains on them and looked like new ones were needed. The actual pool was absolutely terrible. We got in and you could feel the slime on the ground as you stepped, almost made me want to get out and put on shoes. Throughout the pool there were black and dark green mold circles. As we walked down the pool path, under the bridges, there was paint pealing and a lot of rust. The paint was peeling to the point where it was falling into the water and getting on your skin and hair.

There is an ocean and no beach. We were not able to enjoy the ocean because the beach was full of seaweed and rocks and the beautiful view was disrupted by those concrete blocks in the water.

The worst part is that 6 of us missed the wedding ceremony because the golf cart people that were supposed to pass every few minutes kept passing us and ignoring us. They would just say that they were on their way to a private event and drive by. We waited almost 30 minutes and all these golf carts passed by and ignored us. We got there 5 min before the ceremony was over.

Some golf card drivers not all were very disrespectful, at one point a driver stopped and as we were getting in the cart he said and I quote “you need to hurry up, I’m busy” it almost felt like we were begging the drivers for a ride. The lever of disrespect was astounding. I have never been to a resort where I felt like a burden.

The phone in my room did not work so it was a hassle getting any type of room service, concierge assistance or services to my room. I had to walk to the lobby 4 times to get some dry cleaning done. The staff at the lobby refused to take the bag of dry cleaning that I took with me. It was finally picked up but I had to reach out to them because it 1 hours before the wedding and I still did not have the clothes.

Needless to say that I will never be staying at this resort or any resorts associated to this chain. For the amount of money that we paid which was over $1000 for 3 night I would have expected a lot more. At the very least exceptional service.

If I could give it a zero star I would but I don’t have the option. One star is too high of a score.

Jerik entreteiment is the best

My vacation in El Dorado was a lot of fun. I celebrated my birthday with my friends, the food at the restaurants was delicious, and I loved the volleyball and water aerobics with Jerik. Jerik made my friends and me laugh. He is a guy with a lot of charisma and charm. I 100% recommend vacationing in this place.

Paradise

This resort is stunningly beautiful. We had a junior swim up room and loved it. The food was delicious and I love that I was able to get healthy options.
Silvia and Iserely from concierge were very pleasant and lovely to work with.

The only downside of the entire trip was that there were mosquitoes… I guess due to that time of year.

I would definitely return to this resort and would recommend it to others.

A wonderful resort, amazing service. Special thanks to Diego!

Review for Diego

My husband and I recently stayed at El Dorado Royal Las Casitas in Mexico. This was our first time in Mexico. We want to say how pleasant and lovely our stay was. The room was amazing, large, very clean, and unique. We were most impressed with the outside shower. The pool bar was so much fun, the bartender was excellent. The food was also very good, I personally enjoyed the Italian restaurant the most (I loved the grouper dish), my husband enjoyed the Mexican buffet the most.

We very much want to extend our deepest thanks to Diego. We have never met a more friendly, kind, and informative concierge. He made our stay very memorable. In fact, every single staff member were so kind and friendly. My husband and I both work in the service industry in the states, we know good service when we see it.

We plan to come back, maybe not next year, but definitely in the future, and we will personally request Diego to be our concierge again.

Best,
Ally and Ken

DON'T FALL FOR THE MEMBERSHIP SCAM

The resort is beautiful, I'm not going to lie about that. The restaurants are also a very pleasant experience. However...DO NOT BECOME MEMBERS.

They will treat AMAZING until they get you to become members. After that, they will treat you AMAZING until you stop upgrading your membership. We spent THOUSANDS of dollars to become members. We first did a short term 60 month. The treated us great. Then we upgraded to 20 years. Then they wanted us to upgrade our membership level. When we said no, there was a distinct difference in the pricing we were offered on our vacations. At this point, it's cheaper to go thru Expedia.

So, basically, we're out THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS and the pricing we're offered is the same as Expedia. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It's one of the biggest regrets of my life.

Home sweet home

It’s so nice to see the place returning to its roots. We stayed in a two bedroom presidential. It was great. Butlers were amazing. Fernando and Xemi were first time for us but did wonderful. Alondra, Gaby, and Claudio were around to help with things the new Butlers wouldn’t know about old timers. My wife and I have been going multiple times each year since 2010. Gabriel, Guielrmo, and Jose were amazing beech butlers. Omar needs to re-think his Butlers strategy, but other than that no complaints. (Put your best butlers with your best customers, not rocket science) 😊
