Honeymoon romantic

We just got back from our Honeymoon and we stayed in Casita 2717. Our concierge was Letty Patlan. She made sure our stay was perfect. She greeted us and before we left felt like family. Our cleaning staff was Sandra and our room was always well stocked, cleaned and perfect. We enjoyed our trip sooo much. We will be going back. All of the staff was friendly and fun and you could tell they enjoyed their jobs. Well done and thank you all for the extra special touches such as flowers on the bed, the chocolates, the bottle of bubbly.

Another amazing trip

My husband and I have been coming here every year for almost 10 years and this was one of the best experiences so far.

It started with the updated members check in, which was the easiest ever. Liz at check in was so welcoming and she already knew what benefits we had in our contract so we didn't have to explain like we usually do. Which made it a very quick check in. The resort and restaurants were stellar as always!

Amazing people made this trip extra special!
Julio at the casitas 32 pool bar took great care of us for the entire trip.
Isabel and Alondra ours butlers were the best the entire time, we love those ladies!
Felipe is the best shuttle driver!
Carlos at Fuentes took great care of us at the members gala.
Jiaro, Edmar and Miguel are the best servers at d'italia casitas!

All of these people made this trip extra special and treated us like family! I hope to see them again next year.

Great time.....need some help to be rated 4-5 Star Resort.

We love El Dorado and have been going for over 15 years. For anyone not to have a great time there is hard for us to comprehend.

Service was great by the following food servers: Victor (Santa Fe), Octavio (Wine Kitchen), Jaidore (D'Italia). Our butler Adriana was very tentitive....we bet she was trained by Hector Gonzalez, who we missed this year as we understand he was promoted to the Palafitos at Maroma. Cesar, the bartender for the first few days at 32 before they switch each month was wonderful. We made sure to go to his bar at 31 once he left 32. Alex the member event coordinator did a fantastic job as hosting the member events he attended. The member catamaran was the best - such a perfect night for it. The concierge Emilio was pleasant and available as we needed.

Aida, the member rep, while pleasant at first, quickly became standoff-ish and very rude. Failed to wave and smile towards the end when we would see her. She avoided eye contact after we told her we were not going to meet with the sales team. She originally promised a follow-up, that she personally would see to, while there from someone named Cesar, who is in the member office. regarding our issues with flyback. Should we be surprised that has yet to occur and she blatantly lied about it?1?. Interesting she is a member rep when her follow-up is lacking!

As stated, we love going each year; however, we do notice service and issues that could be resolved. If the Loomis family is hoping to achieve a 5-star, even 4-star rating, the following would need to be rectified: nightly turndown service was hit or miss. We miss nightly towels on the floor by each side of the bed (this did not happen at all this trip), miss the nightly towel creations as well as the nightly soft music playing in the room when we returned from dinner. We missed the fresh flower arrangements we have gotten in the past and fresh fruit platter upon arrival. We paid for a private luxury car transportation from and to the airport; yet, our ride from El Dorado to the airport was a van. Hardly luxurious.

The yoga schedule posted on the computer screen in the lobby as well as what the butlers sent was inaccurate. It was communicated yoga/pilates started at 8:30am when it actually started at 8am.

The umbrellas by the chairs in 32 did not work....they did not stay opened as the pins were missing. Some of the casitas beach beds by 32 were not made each day. The hot tub jets in the casitas spa were not working and when maintenance was called, they still weren't probably fixed as the only worked on the bottom of the hot tub but no other areas. The requested pillows and scents were not provided until 2-3 days after we arrived, and we had to inquire about them. We miss the name plaques of the different bars in the casitas.

The D'Italia restaurant had five tables with votive candles in the table vase. I know this because when I inquired, as to why our table did not have a votive, the server told us that they only have 5 candles. In addition, we counted the tables with no lit votives.

Again, we love coming.....there are a few glitches that need to be achieved to be a 4-5 star resort.

Great time

Wife and I just returned from a 4 night stay at El Dorado Casitas.
It was our 3rd visit to EDC.
Great trip as always.
Letty was our concierge and was great, very helpful and attentive.
Jose and Ramon at casita section 31 were fantastic.
We stayed in a private pool casita. It was our 2nd time staying in this type room, love the private pool, the balcony, room was great.
As always food can be hit or miss at all inclusive but for most part food is good.
Lunch as la isla was not good.
We had pizza at the La cabana pizzeria also and it was ok.
The bar at casitas section 31 also had food and last few days we ate lunch there. Great quesadilla.
Breakfast at Santa Fe was solid.
Dinner at Kampai was the best, we ended up eating there twice.
Once downfall to trip was constantly being hounded about massages. We were approached several times each day on the beach and at the pool asking if we wanted massages. Some of them were a little pushy and rude.
Other than great trip as always and we will return

No longer viable resort

Positives - Great food great location and a fantastic member of staff Letty Patlan concierge a total gem who assisted us well beyond the call of duty. She was not our room concierge but despite that she assisted in issues we had even when she was off duty

Negatives- the resort is empty approx 25% occupancy. Don’t know why but our experience may explain. Problems with room TV didn’t work took 5 calls to repair needed to access hotel information. Air con leak, flooded room call front desk 5 times no priority had to call Letty she was off duty and her influences got it repaired. Room flooded and clothes wet as closet was below Air con. We had to dry clothes in sun. Toilet constantly blocked and no flush for 14 days. Room drab and tired broken furniture and dirty in areas. Gardeners using petrol strimmer and blower around the pool for 3 days noise was deafening had to report why can’t it be done when no one at pool. Poolman pouring chemicals into pool while people in pool- sodium hypochlorite a dangerous chemical should not be used while people bathing. Mini bar (Water)not filled reported Room not made up reported. Beer barrel at pool was off almost sick. Bars and restaurants empty no atmosphere. Front desk avoid answering calls and don’t prioritise. As in the leak we had. We went to this resort as we had been there 11 years before and loved it. It has went backwards. I would be surprised if it survives much longer. Real management issues and lack of people willing to deal with problems with the exception of Letty the company could do well to promote this star as she has what it takes to manage issues and people.

Last minute change of destination…..

My husband and I had planned a trip to Cabo in September 2025, due to flights getting canceled we literally changed our destination in the airport, our travel agent suggested this resort. This ended up being the best decision! (God’s plan due to bad weather in Cabo) We had the best time! The resort was very low occupancy the first day but it picked up! We loved that the swim out rooms have a larger pool where we got to mingle with your neighbors! We meet some amazing people!! Our concierges Paula & Letty were FABULOUS!! Comfy bed, good bath products, nice closet, and a well stocked fridge. The service and food were both great as well!
Only 2 small negatives and this is with any resort I’ve been to, the lighting in the room is horrible and they should put pictures of the food on the menus (it’s difficult to order without). Overall this was a great trip and would definitely consider a repeat trip here.

Feels like going home.

We’ve been back to the casitas for several years. We’ve had great butler service even if it’s just keeping us stocked with ice. They made special room decor to celebrate our anniversary from special chocolates and dessert shots. René and Miriam did a stellar job searching and sourcing Dr Pepper zero.

MI EXPERIENCIA / MY OWN EXPERIENCE

As for the rooms, very nice; we stayed in room 626 and we loved having a jacuzzi inside. One detail to improve is that the minibar did not have chocolates or a variety of snacks—there were only chips, beers, and sodas.

On the first and second day, we had breakfast at the Market restaurant and the buffet was incredible, with good service. We also had breakfast at the Palm restaurant and it was fine; however, the orange juice was not natural, and when we asked for a bit more cottage cheese, the waiter told us there was no more (something that should not happen in a 4-Diamond hotel).

For lunch, we went to the Thai restaurant. I liked the theme of the place, although I would rate the food 6/10. The only things I really enjoyed were the shrimp starter and the dessert, which was a fruit roll. As for the service, it was neither good nor bad: they only served us water and did not offer drinks until we asked. The waiter told us it was not his responsibility and that another colleague would come to take the drink order.

In the evening, we had dinner at the Italian restaurant with a reservation at 9 p.m. From the moment we arrived, the waiter greeted us with a bad attitude and asked us to order everything at once because the restaurant closed at 10 p.m. and that was all we could order. I asked for a canned Coca-Cola with a glass of ice, and they told me it was not possible since the restaurant captain had ordered that all drinks had to be served from the bar, which makes no sense. The food was very bad; out of everything I ordered, I only liked the chicken parmesan. As for the desserts, the crème brûlée was terrible, just like the others. I would definitely not return to this restaurant.

Another thing to note is that the carts take a very long time to pass by. We always had to wait 15 minutes or more, and during vacation you don’t want to waste time waiting.

If I took the time to write this summary of my experience at the hotel, it was for a reason. I hope it is taken into consideration and that, if I ever return someday, this does not happen again.

No longer that wow factor!

We did enjoy the time away. It is still a beautiful resort and the grounds are well kept. Staff was friendly and the restaurants were very helpful and concerned with my wife’s dietary restrictions. In most cases the restaurant staff offered the chef to prepare a meal to meet her dietary needs.
Most of the restaurant’s menus have limited selections of main courses compared to the past (maybe four of five). The food was not near as delectable as the past. I considered it as just okay. Some restaurant menus have additional main courses for additional upcharge. Some of those upcharges for entrée were $100.00 USD each!

Casitas were unmaintained and have the same furniture that we had ten years ago. The love seat had no padding left in the cushions and was difficult to get in and out of. It felt like you we sitting on the floor. In room dining chair cushions were thread bare and stained. Overall, the Casitas were in disrepair and unkept from leaking shower to lack of hot water and towels. Drapes were old and didn’t close completely. Washcloths and hand soap seemed hard to come by we had to request them twice. As to the check-in process we were encouraged to buy a timeshare which we declined. We were also told at check-in that management would not allow them do anything in celebration our anniversary because we did not provide them with our marriage license (been good to know before we went). Finally, the webpage app for the all-dinner reservations etc. has a lot to be desired and really is not user friendly and just annoying for a cell phone. At check-out the sales pitches started all over again to pre-pay your next vacation.

Overall, I would say the resort has a long way to go to get back to a five-star status. It was nothing like what we experienced in the past visits. Most other guest that we spoke with that had previous visits felt the same way and they were told the same thing as us that the owners were trying to reduce cost. The value for the food and service is no longer there. The constant up selling was just overwhelming!
I have much more to say but I think you get the idea.

A 4* Honeymoon at a 5* price

I really did my homework before booking, don't ignore the negative reviews- THIS IS NOT A 5 * HOTEL.

I will keep this review as concise as possible, some positives outweighed by one big negative. On arrival, friendly reception, easy check in, consierge great, thanks letty and esmerelda for your errands! Our room was clean and like the pictures, nice touches with banner on the door and sparking wine complimentary of our honeymoon.

Rooms: spacious, cleaned daily, restocking of mini fridge was hit or miss, had a slight ant issue...couldn't turn the air con off so I slept under a thick blanket at night.

The hotel is at 30% occupancy so feels very quiet and in turn limited, only certain pools are open. Alcohol doesn't taste premium, lots of ice and flat mixers used. Pool swim up area lovely, our bar man was very grumpy and refused to play music some days and seemed very unhappy to be asked to do pretty much anything, he just stood in the corner of the bar (under the cameras) on his phone.

Night time entertainment pretty much non existent, what was on at the "big show" was in my opinion somewhat amateur. I wasn't aware of any other entertainment throughout the day despite what was advertised. The hotel is tired but still the setting is beautiful, the views are fabulous and the wildlife is great to see.

Our biggest issue was the evening food, we tried over the first 4 nights all the restaurants except for the Italian....the menu was not to our taste particularly but what we did have was either salty, greasy or dry. We dont eat seafood, pig tongue, cow cheek, bone marrow etc so my advice is look at the menus of the restaurants before booking....We really struggled with the food and decided on day 5 to check out and find somewhere else for our remaining 5 days that had food more to our liking.

When we asked to do so we were promised by the hotel manager Francisco that if we tried the Italian, spoke to the chef and the food and Beverage manager about our food preferences they would endeavour to find something that we could eat, we agreed and so we did that night we went to the Italian and was met by Ruben the F&B manager, spoke to the chef, I think Rebecca and was served by Edmar. Perfect! We had a simple capreze and a rare fillet mignon steak. Honestly, we didnt want to eat the same meal every single night but we knew we would at least enjoy it! Thank you to Edmar, Ruben, Miguel and Rebecca for the enjoyable meals we had on those nights and the above and beyond service.

When the italian closed on the Wednesdsy, we went to Francisco and asked if we could have the same meal upstairs in the Steak restaurant...Francisco says not possible. The steak restaurant one flight of stairs above the italian was not allowed to serve us the same steak, yes a steak house was not able to serve steak, the reason is its "a different speciality", a debate on this obvious disparity ensued. Frankly Fransisco, you are rude, obnoxious and obstructive. What could have been a simple fix on your behalf turned into a fight for us to get a meal we could eat. Considering we were on our honeymoon, your apprent 5* standards and the price we paid I'm sure this oversight and in turn negative experience and review could have been avoided. Francisco claimed to be the highest of the managers I could speak to, if this is the case....you could have accommodated a simple, reasonable request. WONT BE COMING BACK, LIKE MANY OTHERS WE SPOKE TO.

Definately not the resort it used to be!

We have just returned from spending a week at casitas Royale and was very disappointed. We have been visiting Eldorado Casitas now for over 20 years and it used to be a lovely place to stay with lots of amenities, activities and choice of varied restaurants. We visited in 2023 and found that the restaurant choices were very minimal but accepted this as everyone has just come through covid, hence visiting again in September 2025. Unfortunately on this visit it became apparrent that the downturn in this hotel was not down to covid as this visit was much worse with very limited food choices available other than mainly Mexican food. We were also disappointed to learn that La Isla and Cocotal are no longer opens for dinner either leaving a very small selection left to choose from as we tried to get in other restaurants but there was either no availability or they were closed. Santa Fe was closed two nights out of the 7 nights while we were there so we ended up eating a lot at the Market place in Generations which was very nice but we didn't pay to stay in Casitas to have to go to Generations and eat buffet food. Also had issues with our room the shower head would not stay up and the shower leaked through the door and flooded the bedroom, we spoke to concierge and the shower head was sorted but she said the door would need to be taken off so they would supply us with extra towels to put on the floor to mop up the puddles. The hotel occupancy was very low (36% according to concierge) yet we didn't even get offered a change of room instead we are told to "put towels on the floor"which is totally unacceptable. We didn't receive the extra towels and went to concierge again who arranged for extra floor mats to be left which they did leave two but the cleaner removed them the next day and we were back to square one. Site cleanliness isn't great as a set of toilets at the beginning of the Casita section were not cleaned once while we was there, wet tissue all round the sink, no toilet rolls in either cubicle and a half full bin. These rooms are extremely dated and tired and really need looking at for the price it costs to stay at Eldorado Casitas, I can only assume this is why the site is so empty these days as people are seeing this and choosing other hotels. We also tried to relax on the beach (not concerned by the large rocks in the water as we appreciate this is unavoidable with the erosion) but did expect to relax but all we had right by us was gardeners strimming, mowing one was blowing leaves, hosing the paths, painting the wall edges and all this was being done in the last few days of our trip as reps were due to visit. We also had the tractor going up and down for most of the day and reversing right along side our loungers near room 3001. Our room cleaning was very basic and not once in the whole week were our floors mopped, turndown was hit and miss and bar restocking was hardly non existant as we were constantly going to reception to request bottled water. Lastly I was very saddened to see that the cat huts, food and water was derelict, I am a cat lover and was heartbroken at how thin the cats were as there is no food for them anywhere which again there was in 2023 so we fed them whilst we were there but devestated at having to leave them in those conditions. All i can say is sort out your rooms, look at you restaurants as most hotels have much more and better restaurant choices and for pitys sake start looking after the cats on your site as they are starving and very neglected. I contacted the hotel and was informed they are part of the CatCafe programme but when I contacted CoCo's Animal Welfare they informed me that they do not have a CatCafe programme with El Dorado Casitas Riviera Maya and have not had for many years so shame on you El Dorado Casitas for giving false information to make yourselves look better !!!!!

I recovered in Paradise

We go every year for the Members event. We have had the pleasure of meeting so many new people that turned into good friends, and this year was no different. Righ off the bat I would like to thank Emiliano for ALWAYS being there for us. Can't wait to see him again. Alondra, Chris, Hugo, David and Enrique were and always were outstanding Client service Ambassadors. I got hurt while I was there, totally my fault, and they made sure I STILL got to enjoy my time there. And Paloma our room keeper was lovely. Oh, may I suggest if you are staying in 32, do the dinner with Edmar at D'Italias Casitas for the most amazing food experience.
Yes seaweed is around but they are busting their butts to remove it every single day.

That's it for now. Till next time.

El Dorado Casita – July 2025 Stay – The Good and Bad

We stayed in a Honeymoon Private Pool Swim-Up Casita in July 2025. The resort grounds are truly beautiful and well-maintained; however, the beach left much to be desired.

Most of the restaurants served very good food, with one major exception: Jade at Generations.

We did experience a few issues with our room. On the last full day of our trip – a day we had planned to relax and enjoy our swim-up pool – the curtain to the pool area fell off completely, and the toilet stopped working. Sadly, it took more than half a day for these issues to be resolved. What made it worse was that the delay wasn’t due to the maintenance worker working slowly, but rather poor coordination from the supervisor who failed to send anyone for hours. When I complained, management assumed I didn’t speak Spanish and placed the blame unfairly on the worker, which was not the case. The manager on duty did end up compensating us for the inconvenience, which we appreciated.

Accessibility is another concern. The resort is enormous, and while beautiful, it’s not particularly mobility-friendly, if you have mobility issues. Even though the resort wasn’t busy, we sometimes waited over 15 minutes for a golf cart. And if you’re planning to dine at Santa Fe Grill, be aware that it’s only accessible via very steep stairs.

A word of caution regarding the “Come Back Inhouse” promotion: Just as you're preparing to leave for the airport, a representative may approach you with what sounds like an unbeatable return offer. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of trusting the representative’s verbal promises and signed the agreement without reading the fine print carefully. When I later tried to book our stay for Summer 2026, I discovered that several of the perks I was promised were not actually included in the contract. When I contacted customer service, they pretty much placed the blame on me. So don’t make the same mistake I did!

Overall, the resort has its strengths – especially the beautiful grounds and some solid dining options – but it also has some serious service and transparency issues that negatively affected our experience.

Excellent

This is our second time to El Dorado Royale and will not be our last. The service we received was unmatched. Our butlers Wilma and Chris took care of all our needs and were constantly checking in to make sure we had what we needed for a great vacation. Our room was always clean. The only downside is it is a larger resort so walking places could take a while, but who doesn’t enjoy walking with an ocean view.

Stay away, spend your money elsewhere. No electricity. No WiFi. No water. Then, no hot water. The trolly never comes.

. It took two hours to get our room after a 2pm arrival.
2. The restaurant we waited at for our room to be ready (Asian) took 40 minutes to get food. The portions were very small and my food was cold. My girlfriend’s food was piping hot.
3. When we got to our room I showed the bellman the water stain on the floor. He’s said “ don’t worry, it’s fine”. During the night, water was all over the floor (same place as the water stain). Unfortunately, while she was up, there was no power. That means now AC — high humidity. No phones to call the desk. No water. When the water turned on the next day, black water came out of the pipes!!
4. Want a different room? NO! Then I was told my room had a KNOWN ROOF LEAK! Really! So now I must change rooms. I was told “no later than 3pm.
At 1 pm I inform them I need to be in Playa Del Carmen at 3 and I could move later in the evening or before I leave at 2:30. I’m told “10 minutes”. My girlfriend gets out of the shower, I’m still in sweaty pool clothes, and we pack everything up. The phone rings and the tell me now the “room will be ready 45 or so minutes”. Now what?!?! I’m packed, sweaty and have no where to shower. Why is this happening? Complete incompetence.
5. Of our aggravation we’re offered a beach dinner and spa treatments. We book the spa treatments for Sunday. There’s cheap swindlers only give us 25 minute massages!!! Then they bail on the beach dinner! They are a shady bunch!

6. Sunday is a great day. We have our massages, float around the pool, plenty of blender drinks and just a relaxing time. Then it’s 3 pm. It’s time to get rested cleaned up so we can go to get some pre dinner cocktails. It’s impossible to relax and get clean when, AGAIN, NO HOT WATER. Nobody tells you it out. Nobody tells you when or if it’s back on.

El Dorado does not have adequate backup generators. We stayed in a Casita with. Private pool on the second floor. $3,000 for four nights.

Do not waste your time or money here. There are much better places to give your paycheck to that has newer and working facilities.

Room service was the best part of the trip. The food was average, fast and hot enough.

Fantastic

Wilma was an amazing concierge and on top of everything...thanks Wilma!!!

We stayed in the Casitas with swimout rooms, loved this! Very relaxing and quiet. We had a fridge in our room stocked daily and 24 hr room service. The Royal side had more of a party atmosphere and Casita guests could access the Royal side.

An app showing restaurants with menus and detailed entertainment information would have been super helpful. We could seek out the information but an app would have made this much easier.

Our casita was clean and well maintained, outdoor shower was incredible. Lazy river connecting Casitas and pool bar was great.

I would stay here again.

Amazing resort! Excellent experience!

We had a wonderful time at El Dorado Casitas Royale! It was our first time there. The swim-up room was very spacious and the bed was truly comfortable! We had a huge shower and also an outdoor shower and a bathtub. We were right by the bar so it was an easy swim to get more drinks. Jacobo and Wilma were our concierge staff and they were both great! Wilma came by almost every day to see if we needed anything. She brought our friends a birthday cake at the pool!

We had breakfast at Santa Fe twice and at the buffet once and both were good. Our favorite dinner option was the Thai place (we went twice)! We also ordered room service almost every day and it was always exactly what we ordered and arrived within an hour. There are many bar options and food options.

The resort felt like a private one, as it is so large the people were very spread out. There were never more than 10 people at our pool/beach area. That was nice! We will definitely consider this place for future trips!

Our First Time at El Dorado Casitas Royale: A Perfect 10!

We couldn't have asked for a better first experience at El Dorado Casitas Royale—it was amazing!

Our swim-up casita was a perfect base: so much space, a ridiculously comfortable bed, and the luxury of choice with a massive indoor shower, an outdoor shower, and a tub. Being able to just swim right up to the bar for a refill was pure vacation bliss.

The true standout service from Julio and Wilma at Casitas section 30. Wilma made our trip feel extra special; she was consistently checking in to see if we needed anything.

We loved the diverse food scene. We had great breakfasts (Santa Fe was a favorite!), but we couldn't resist going to the Thai restaurant twice for dinner. Plus, the ease and accuracy of the room service—always spot on and delivered fast—made for effortless meals. Ordering food, lunch/dinner reservations, and even supplies/amenities through the resort website was a breeze.

The resort's expansive layout gives it a special, exclusive feel. With guests so spread out, our little slice of the pool/beach was quiet and uncrowded. It truly felt like a private retreat! We are already planning our next trip back.
