First time in Dominican Republic

I really enjoyed my time at Hamaca, it was located right on the beach. Tairy, Nelson, and Jose at the activity desk were very helpful. I also built a lot of good friendships here that will continue!!!

Good People, Great workers and an Amazing Thanks Giving Dinner = A Great Vacation!!!

We arrived at Be Live Hamaca on Nov 19th for a 2 week vacation. This was our first first to Boca Chica and this area of the Dominican Republic. The Check in service was perfect and we were treated very well by everyone at the from desk and everyone at the resort. There are 2 main pools , one on the Garden side and one close to the Beach. The pools were both great, but a little more detail to the pool cleaning could have been done. A shortage of beach chairs was the daily issue. But every resort I have been to has had this issue. The Beach and ocean are great and a very good area for anyone that wants nice calm ocean swimming area. There were many food choices and we always found something we enjoyed . We at every meal at the resort unless we were on an excursion which is not what we usually do. At first it seemed like the workers were not as engaged with us as were are used to. But we found that as long as you treat them with respect they are more engaged with you. Our room in the 900 area was Beautiful and looked like it was renovated in the last few years. Not all the rooms are this quality. Our friends from the Dominican Republic came down to visit us for a few days and there room need a reno!!! Our Sunwing Rep Ernest was very helpful and really appreciate his help. Make sure you take advantage of the a la Carte Restaurants on the resort. We enjoyed everyone we tried. Thanks Be Live Hamaca for a great vacation!!!

Disappointing

I am giving this estamblishment 2 stars because the employees who deal directly with the costumers were friendly and helpful; however, if not for them I would have rated this place at one star. The owners and management should be ashamed of them selves. Even with VIP status I am not feeling VIP at all. I have provided a check list of all that was wrong and please note that I am writing this review only after reaching out to management with an e-mail and many trips to guest services which left me still without resolution to the problems.

*the room had a overwhelming smell of mold which took me two nights and many request to get assistance for.
-mini bar with a coffee pot but no coffee or sugar or water
- NO TOWELS at the beach or in the room
-Dirty floors
-broken phone ( I had to use my cell to call the front desk and I walked to the front desk many many many times)

On the third day when I asked to speak to a manager I was told that she was eating. After hearing that there was one manager for a place of this size I then understood why this place is poorly run.

I did learn a valuable lesson. Reviews are real!

Worse experience ever

Well i don't know from when to start. I have seen a lot of ppl saying that you get always what you pay for which is not the case in here. We bought our package for 3 nights at a cost of 2560 $ (canadian). This place is a total trash. I won't be able to write down everything i have been thro in here but definitely this called hotel need to be demolished and rebuilted again.
Rooms are suks, food is disgusting, no towels...
Guys i regretted not reading well previouses reviews.
Dominican republic is punta cana.
Ps: the manager or whoever is relying to feedbacks, please use that time to improve your services better then copying and pasting same answers.

An Honest Review

We just got back from a week at Boca Chica where we stayed at the Be Live Hamaca Suites. There were both positive and negative aspects of our stay which I’ll list below.

Area: This resort isn’t like typical resorts in the sense that it’s not secluded. It’s located right in Boca Chica. You walk out the front door and you are on the street. There are bars and restaurants and a grocery store right there with locals living in close proximity. There is plenty of security on the resort. We never felt unsafe and the local population never came on the grounds.

Beach: The beach here is amazing. The water is clear and the sand is white. There is a natural barrier in the sea stopping the waves so the water is very calm. This was especially good for our 4 year old. We loved that we walked out of our hotel and the beach was right there. Literally 50 feet and we were in the sand. The only negative was that it was a little small. We had to go out early in the morning and put towels on chairs so we would have a spot to sit after breakfast. But this was no big deal.

Room: We didn’t have an ocean facing room. This wouldn’t be a problem if it didn’t face the public beach right beside the hotel. This beach was very loud at night with motorcycles, dogs barking and loud music. On the weekends this didn’t stop until 3-4 AM. It made sleeping hard. We switched rooms because of the noise and ended up on a higher floor that was less noisy but still not quiet. The problem with the new room is that none of the plugs worked. I asked the maintenance staff 6 different times to have them repaired and it was never fixed. I didn’t want to move rooms again so we lived with this. If you are going to stay here get an ocean facing room.

The room itself was nice with a newer walk in shower with tempered glass door, double sink vanity, separate water closet and a bath tub.

Hotel: the hotels are old and sprawling. The Suites are new but they’re connected to the older ones. It’s a bit of a pain to get to the lobby and restaurants as you have to take one elevator down, walk a long hallway, take another elevator 2 floors up and then walk again. The elevators were broken at times which meant carrying a stroller up and down stairs.

Food: The food was ok.... Better than what you would get in Cuba, but worse than what you’d expect from a 4 star resort. If you go here make sure you have a VIP black bracelet. This gives you access to a beautiful terrace and private small buffet with attentive staff. It was never busy and the views were spectacular. The food here was pretty good but the selection was limited. We ate here most meals. It was a great place to hang out in the evening and enjoy the spectacular scenery. We didn’t pay a lot so the black bracelet can’t be expensive. It’s a must if you’re staying here.

We tried 2 a la carte restaurants and the food wasn’t very good (Mexican and Brazilian). We preferred to dine on the terrace.

Pools: we came for the ocean and didn’t spend time in the pools. They looked ok.

Random pros and cons

Con: Far from the airport and excursions. This led to long bus rides.

Con: it’s filled with Russians. Not that there’s a problem with Russians but most of the people didn’t speak English.

Pro: the staff at the VIP terrace were amazing and we have never experienced views like this. It made the trip.

Pro: being in Boca Chica and not a secluded resort was a different vacation experience than what we were expecting. Although we didn’t take advantage of this due to our 4 year old, this is a bonus as there’s lots to do at night.

Pro: the weather was amazing. 30/20 everyday and nothing but sunshine. I know this changes from week to week but I had to throw it in. It was perfect.

Summary: you get what you pay for. Other than the plugs not working in my room and the noise everything was good. We paid $2,720 CAD for 2 adults and a 4 year old to fly and stay for one week all inclusive. If you want fine dining pay more and stay elsewhere. If you want a great beach and off resort local entertainment at a great price this place is for you.

I’d prefer some better food and less of a drive from the airport so I wouldn’t return. If I was returning I’d do so with an ocean view room and black bracelet.

Warning - if you do decide to stay here only stay at the Suites. Avoid the Garden and Beach as they are old and not so nice.

keep expectations as low as possible

I was wary of booking this property after reading mixed reviews on multiple sites. I decided to book at the Suites instead of Beach or Garden because it seemed to be safer in terms of level of disappointment.

CHECK-IN: When arriving, we had no idea where to check-in for suites. We waited on line at reception in the main lobby, where we were told that our check-in was not there and we would have to go to the VIP lounge which was tucked away in the far end of the 6th floor. This should be stated somewhere on the reservation for Suites. While we were being checked in at the VIP lounge, there was a short blackout which was just comical. We received an envelope with ONE room key (you had to place a $5 deposit in the lobby for a copy), two wifi username/password slips (each valid for 15 hours of access, which was spotty at best), and other miscellaneous information about the resort. If you are still thinking about booking this property, definitely go for suites over beach or garden. There was food and drinks (much better quality liquor) at the VIP lounge.

AMENITIES: It was confusing to maneuver the property in general as the buildings were poorly designed and the signage was lacking. We walked through the Beach tower and noticed many of the doors were not properly aligned and looked like they lacked privacy. The room - we got a suite with two full beds when we reserved one with a king bed. The “hydromassage tub” was pretty gross, with green ooze at each jet. The drain stopper wasn’t working properly, so it couldn’t even be used anyway. A few of the outlets didn’t work. We went to the VIP lounge to ask to change rooms the next day and they said to come back at 4pm. When we came back, they sent us down to guest services to talk to Jimmy. Jimmy seemed clueless and asked his coworker, who walked us to our new room. It had a king bed and the drain stopper worked, but the jets were still gross and we decided not to use it. We traded keys and then realized there was only one small lamp to light up the entire bedroom. The shower head was not properly mounted on the wall. We were only staying for two more nights so we didn’t even bother complaining a second time. There was a woman who was informing them about the leak in her bathroom that had not been addressed. With the language barrier, it seemed like wasted time for this poor customer.

SYSTEMS: ALL the systems at this resort were extremely antiquated. In order to get a lock for the safety deposit box in the room, you had to give in a $20 deposit and they wrote out a receipt. In order to get beach towels, you had to put down a $20 deposit PER TOWEL in the lobby to get two faded and laminated pieces of paper. These papers were traded in at the beach for towels IF THERE WERE ANY AVAILABLE. We had to wait over 30 minutes twice for beach towels. The beach and pool areas were lacking in number of chairs. The gym was a joke. There were 6 cardio machines (2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 3 bikes). Only the elliptical worked and one of the bikes had straps for your feet.

FOOD: In order to eat at the a la carte restaurants, you had to make an in-person reservation at a random desk. Everything was sold out for the night that we made the reservation. Only select restaurants are open each day, with the cuisines matching up with the "theme" at the buffet (i.e., when it was Mexican night, the Mexican restaurant was open). The buffet was decent, and they did attempt to make different cuisines out of the same few ingredients. The fruit station was watched like a hawk and cleared out within seconds of a tray being refilled.

SPA: We did go to the spa twice for massages. The first one was deep tissue, but it felt more like rubbing oil all over my body for an hour with barely any technique ($153/couple, no tip). We went back the next day to use our free hour of sauna/steam room/jacuzzi and booked a relaxation massage ($99/couple, no tip) just as a test. It was the exact same massage. However, my boyfriend’s massage started 15 minutes earlier and I laid there thinking wtf was happening. I lifted my head and she said “sorry the lady she’s coming” and I waited another 5 minutes before she actually showed up. At least she gave me my full hour.

An observation about the patrons at the resort – probably 60% from Russia and 30% from Canada, and then the rest of us.

tl;dr you really get what you pay for here, if that much. It was dirt cheap when we booked ($87/nt/person) and we only went for 2 full days, so we didn’t have to deal with the abysmal quality of the resort for too long. I felt bad for people who booked for an entire week hoping for paradise.

Nice but not a 4 Star Experience.

Arrival:
Note that there is a 90+ minute bus ride from Punta Cana to here. There is another airport (Las Americas) 15 minutes away and not Federally regulated so prepare yourself for. Long ride. Their check-in seemed confused and antiquated. We arrived after midnight and through looking at their computer screen, paper lists, running to the back area of the reception, we finally got to a room around 1 AM. It was a very long walk through a bit of a labyrinth. The room as dirty with used plates on the table. We had to return to the front desk as was told the Bell Hop will fix the room. A short while later he came back and we followed him to another smaller room. It was not Pool View but street view to the busy neighborhood intersection with scooters, music, dogs barking, and people yelling. It was pretty clean but the toilet didn't flush. I had to open the tank and fiddle with the mechanism to make the water fill the tank. It pretty much worked from there. Next morning we left this temporary room to move back to the first room. We were told we have to wait until 4 PM to get a room change. Frustrated as we had to leave our luggage and cart our backpacks with us for most of the day. No pool or ocean that day. We saw other people at the front desk that seemed to go through similar unfortunate situations. We finally got our original room at 4 so could settle in. The place was cleaned up but the floor was dirty, AC on lower floor didn't work, the kitchen tap faucet sprays all over the place, door to the roof terrace was broken and rubbed on the floor so painful to open.

Overall place:
This place was built ages ago and has some areas a bit more maintained / updated. The suites tower (8 floors including loft mezzanine and rooftop terraces) seems like the best offering. We didn't go into any units on the Garden side but heard the suites is a better choice. Staff in the hotel are friendly and helpful. The front desk is another story but they are probably often being confronted by disappointed guests. Restaurant offerings look varied but we have been eating at the main buffet which is pretty good. Many guests do not seem to respect the notion of lining up and just jump the line. I don't know if this is an Eastern Euopean thing, but most line jumpers seemed to be of that culture. Last night was Lobster Dinner night and many even approached the grille with 2 plates. Variety of foods is quite good, veggies, meats, and lots of carbs. It's however a bit more on the bland side. Service at the buffet at the tables is kinda slow and not the friendliest. Long faces and all is self serve except for setting cutlery and napkins at your table. Even morning coffee you need to get yourself. I was tipping at the beginning at the bars and noticed that I seemed to be the only one tipping. Cuba was the opposite where if you didn't tip you'd get a look from those serving you.

Salespeople:
The place is crawling with Lifestyle Vacation salespeople looking for investors to drop money into buying weeks of vacation time to use over the next number of years. We got roped in for the sales pitch by the beige topped, black pant dressed "hunters" as we jokingly called them. They bring the prospects to the sales centre for the pitch, tour, and hopeful sale. The inside sales guy gives you the spiel, the tour, and then he brings in the manager to make the offer. Lots of numbers and sounds a lot less than what we paid. The rooms are the same as what we were staying in. There is a limited number of rooms so I am not 10p% that their availability info sounds realistic. Lots of properties though around the world. We were told that have 300,000 destinations total, but that might be total rooms. Be prepared to be approached by them. They are not persistent but look more for new arrivals that are not yet aware of their pitch. There are excursion folks as well but not too pushy. Which is nice and they are just trying to make a living.

Beach and pool:
The beach is quite small and protected as you have VIP beach and ocean at either end. The guest accessible beach is not that large and the area with long chairs is like a dense parking lot under some shade structures we didn't find it too appealing as we like a bit more room. We found the pools in the suites more to our liking however there are not too many places. This pool was fun with kids and adults, and not over crowded. All was pretty clean however more waste bins could help as some guests leave their plastic cups and straws on tje sand or grass and then forget about them. The gardens side of tje resort has more sprawling pools but we haven't tried that yet. We may later today. It looks nice and well kept.

Gardens / Site:
Lawns seem quite well kept, maintenance people are trimming coconut palms and lawns are kept short. Most people walk on the paved paths which keeps the grounds looking nice. Grounds keepers are usually sweeping. There are quite a few smokers on the site but there are not butts all over the place, which is nice.

Ambiance and noise:
This is a pretty relaxed place with a good bit of animation near the beach to keep those that need activity busy. The staff seems quite engaging and fun. Music is a mix of Latin and classic English pop. We haven't taken in any shows at the theatre or square at the entrance to the gardens but there are people often waiting for the 9:30 shows to begin. Night time noise is quite low on the site. Not too many late night partygoers or at least they are quiet. The barking dogs at the public beach to the south of the hotel is a hassle. If you are in the suites tower and looking onto the hotel's pools and beach, you probably have the best room available.the south facing side of the tower is dog barking central and you'll wake often. Bring ear plugs or ear buds for a restful sleep.

I spoke to a rep after booking our vacation and had concerns about the reviews. The lady at SellOffVacations.com explained that the star rating applies to the area where the hotel / resort is located. 4 Stars in Cancun is not 4 stars in Boca Chica or Holguin Cuba. It all depends on the other hotels in that area. I would say that this is a 3.5 star at most given the age of the resort, the quality of the beach, the food offering, and our overall experience.

In closing, the weather has been excellent and the people are very nice.

A Suites Reservation is automatically a VIP reservation

I stayed at Be Live Hamaca Suites for one week in March with my wife and baby. When you book the Suites, they automatically get VIP access and a black VIP bracelet. You are able to use the VIP Lounge and VIP Pool at the resort. With VIP, the food is the same as everyone else, but you get top shelf booze in the VIP areas.

The beach is absolutely amazing and the pools are good as well.

The rooms were average and only three lights out of the five in the room worked. I asked the maid and reception twice to fix this, but they did not. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep at night, so this was not a big deal.

The food is average. We ate all our meals in the VIP Lounge because the buffet (only one buffet on the Garden side of the resort) was always over crowded and it took 15mins to just find a table. The food in the a-la-carte restaurants is great.

Tips for future travellers:
-when you get to the resort, tell the bell boy that you have a Suites/VIP reservation. The bell boy will make a call to confirm that you have booked "Suites". Once confirmed, you have to go to the 6th floor for a private check in. This is where the VIP lounge is.
-eat all your meals at the VIP lounge. It is the same food from the buffet, but you do not have to wait in any lines.
-wifi is free in the VIP lounge and the wifi strength is strong enough to stream games (ex. Fortnite).
-you need to give a $20USD cash deposit for a second key to the room (they only give you one key) which is refunded upon check out.
-you need to give $20USD cash deposit for each beach towel which is refunded upon checkout.
-unless you wake up early to reserve seats, you will not get a chair at the beach. But if you stay at the VIP pool you will be fine to find chairs. The VIP pool is at the beach.
-this is a high resort and involves a lot of walking, so bring comfortable footwear.

VERY DANGEROUS FOR FAMILIES!

STAY AWAY! Especially if you are traveling with young girls/ kids. Went here with family and almost got kidnapped with my siblings by the resort in OUR OWN ROOM. The hotel purposely spilled up my siblings and I from our parents, claiming there were no connecting rooms available on the same side of the resort. They tried to break in to our room (around 2:30am) we had screaming angry men (in spanish) banging on our door and trying to break it down. Long story short (many signs of danger throughout the trip), when we asked to see cameras the next day, the hotel said it was not possible. Our family left right away. Ironically, we were also relocated to a room by an EXIT DOOR! Hotel employees are in on the crime that happens here and they do not care, or are not willing to help. Staying here will put your family in danger! DO NOT even think about visiting this place!

The ultimate bait and switch

I am a recent widow decided I needed to see the beach. So an impulse buy had me in DR in April booked the trip two days before I left. The Be live hotel in the photos looks decent. In actuality, the hotel is dated, the room I was placed in was not what I booked (I booked a king bed) was given two doubles.the concierge was not helpful basically was like “oh well”. My room the tv didn’t work. Maintenance came at 11pm to fix it. First night I was there the power went out. Hot water was mostly nonexistent. All of the food is processed and prepackaged. Alcoholic drinks are plentiful and bottom shelf. They try to sell you time share/vacation packages to get real liquor. The workers, most are nice. The entertainment crew when they knew I was solo ate with me and made sure I had a good time. FYI you have to pay for the lock for the safe in your room.

Hamaca Boca Chica

I Did not enjoy this place. Room was bad...
Food was bad... service was bad.
Bed was uncomfortable and had mosquitos. Had to change my room and the new room they gave me was worse. Did not think it was worth the money and would not go back.

HORRIBLE HOTEL.

I stayed at this Horror Site for three days. NO AC. NO FOOD. And rats all over the location.

THREE days WITHOUT AC!! My son slept on the floor because he was so hot! I am extremely disappointed and sad that I spent 3 days celebrating my sons birthday 18th birthday in this hell hole. Every single day I went up to ask about my Ac and every single day I got a “ we’re working on it” the staff members LAUGHED and giggled while I struggled to express myself in Spanish. I am so upset. I literally hate this hotel.

I don’t know how this has three stars.
It deserves -1

FRAUD!

I took my
Family on vacation in September 2019 to Hamaca believe hotel! When we booked the trip they showed pictures online of a beautiful stay and the rooms were very clean and beautiful . Once we arrived to the hotel it looked completely different from what they showed us online. The rooms were a disaster small and the beds were very uncomfortable . In fact the lights left for about 2 hours and we weren’t able to shower or anything! The mosquitos were excessive and the lights in the bathroom were not working. We called Maintence
To fix it and they had no idea on how to fix it and why was it messed up . On our 2nd day there we were approached by a gentleman who simply told us he had a gift for us . We automatically thought he was serious due to us being on vacation. They then took us to a nice place and stayed serving us free beers and champagne where we got intoxicated. Almost to the point where we would agree to everything they said. They told us about a great deal with a free stay for 5 days at punta cana at a presidential suite . We agreed and me and my wife signed a 30 year contract which they never told us when we could cancel the contract just in case we wasn’t interested anymore . They told us the contract was with everything included and the prices of our stay when we come next time would be way more cheaper than the usual. We then reside at punta cana presidential suite for 5 days which was a greet
Experience but they tricked us into signing the contract . Recently we booked a trip for the new future and we called Hamaca believe hotels do ask how much would it be for 5 people 12 nights they said it would be $6000 with no food included ! How is this possible is we are already members of this club and they explained to us that it would be cheaper but the price literally doubled up! I’m fixing this complaint because this kind of fraud it’s really bad ! If you Guys are residing at This location please don’t get tricked by the gentleman’s that are wearing a white shirt with the logo lifestyle believe hotels in gold letters ! The are ready to trick you into signing that 30 year contract and intoxicating your other free liquor so you can agree to everything.

Great stay and amazing location

I was lucky enough to work remotely during the months of Sept and Oct. I made a trip to Boca Chica and stayed the the La Hamaca Suites. First i would say from day of my stay the staff (Siudersy,Zuleida,Pio) made my stay very relaxing and accommodating. Siudersy took care of whatever needs and requests i had and made sure my booking requests where done for the past 6 weeks. I stayed during the non all inclusive period per covid. And i must say they made sure i had the right people get my food and pointed me in the right direction to whatever requests i needed. Also the secondary staff was amazing as well ( CLEANING LADY, PORTER) where so amazing and respectful. Location was amazing right on the beach which was very clean and the strip to the other beaches and restaurants. From Management to staff i was treated with so much respect and class i have not one complaint. Now for the people who read this remember this is a hotel and covid has hurt alot of workers income. Please make sure you tip the employees DR is still a very poor country and the workers will very much appreciate it. The workers there will work with you and make sure you needs are met. Again thanks to Siudersy for the very attentive help and making sure my stay went ery smooth and well.

Average is Average

Stayed here after the place I had a timeshare shut down for renovations. Made an offer and they accepted. Was a little concerned about the ratings, but the world is full of complainers.

Room was ok. Loft with a full bath on each level came in handy. Drinks, including a nice bottle of wine and soft drinks were in fridge. Housekeeping was attentive to bottled water needs. Lost power 2-3 times. No big deal. Food was not in several places. Basically just one free dining room and the snack bar. Honestly, once we found Pelicano and Neptuno, we ate there at market prices. Biggest complaint is wifi. It does NOT exist, except in the lobby, and that's not saying much.

Beach is great! In Boca Chica but separated enough to be private. The guys at the beach bar are top notch.

We came Sunday and left Saturday by design. The locals come to party for the weekend. Everything gets crowded and noisy.

Overall a nice place, but REALLY needs a full renovation. With no wifi, I won't be back. Sadly.

the price is too high for such low quality

Hello everyone this is a deep dive or detailed review of this hotel; I will let you know my personal experience regarding my 3 day visit to this “resort/hotel”, I am an airline employee with 20 plus years in this industry visiting plenty of resorts throughout the world and in the Dominican Republic, if you are a fellow airline employee or tourism related employee don’t visit this place. I arrived and the employees were not all that welcoming or nice in any particular way; first thing I noticed once I got to the hotel, it’s the fact that they post beautiful photoshopped pictures when in reality the hotel is falling apart from A to Z wherever you look its pretty sad the condition its in. Lobby its not nice or neat looking a lot of broken items form chairs or furniture to windows or doors; once I made it to the hotel room anything that was supposed to be metal had RUST on it, I am talking from light fixtures to the door to the water faucet it all had RUST which if you’re like me and like cleanliness a lot, it felt pretty bad. The door main lock did not work; the door wooden frame piece fell apart almost hitting me and stabbing me with its nails. Hot water only worked in the shower when it felt like it. The king bed was very uncomfortable and the furniture in the room was used up to the level that it looked like it was from the 1970’s. You could seriously hear the air conditioning like it was in the closet that’s how loud it was and the air conditioning vent was black and rusty as well which made me and my companion had a sore throat the next day. I asked to speak with a management member and they were never available; you could let the front desk agent know all of these issues and they did not know how to answer or what to do. The room phone did not work at all. The GYM was shut down and this was the first reason why I decided to stay in this hotel, I could have stayed somewhere else where the GYM was opened and they just brushed this off, it is not in their website that the GYM is closed. If you have kids I would tell you do not go to this place as it is not safe in general when it comes to the premises and specially for young kids. The only thing I liked about the place was the access to the beach and the employees in the beach area were very nice specially the ones service drinks and food, they were extra nice and attentive in the beach area. I hope this review helps you with your decision.

Me.

The entertainment crew is one of the best crews I’ve ever seen. The hotel needs some serious upkeeping. Until then, the price needs to be adjusted accordingly. I stayed away from the all inclusive package since there is great gold all over town.
