Fantastic hotel. Fantastic restos. Fantastic bedding. White sand and warm warm water was great hotel and great location!

The bed was super comfy. The beach with white sand and warm water was fantastic
The restos was delish! The service was great! All in all it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend this hotel to family and friends! Super hotel

Adding to my previous review.

I wanted to update the review that I left below, because a few additional things have happened before I check out (today thankfully). The rooms will not cool below 21.5C (70.7F), which makes for a very rough, very sweaty night of sleep.

Additionally, I had a reservation for one in the French restaurant and was seated at a table of four, by myself. Two of my friends from the Joe Dispenza retreat were seated at another table, and we asked if we could all dine together at my table. We were told no for absolutely no reason. There are a lot of rules in this hotel that make no sense. The staff has a “no” mentality that I don’t understand.

The safe in my room is broken, and when you get up at night to go to the restroom, the closet lights automatically come on and won’t turn off for 5 minutes. There is no switch. When I went out to use my patio bathtub, there was an old container of soap out there that had about a drop left in it.

Overall a disappointing experience.

Budget travelers only

It’s hard to complain about a trip to Cancun and the beaches and weather but boy does Barcelo Maya Riviera make me want to. The absolute lowlight of the trip was the Italian restaurant on the resort— I’ve never had a manager and chef come over to tell me that I was wrong to think their food wasn’t properly made! And this is a lowlight after my mother cut her foot on the rocks in the water and was only able to get bandaids from staff on the resort with no further effort to ensure she was taken care of. And you can’t blame the resort for the couple that chose to have sex in the swim out pool, but wow was that disgusting.

They were very limited in terms of mixers and their drink repertoire, so recommend sticking to the basics and avoiding the juices and wines if you can— the red was just potable but the white tasted like I imagine horse piss would and the sparkling just added bubbles.

That said, the French and Mexican restaurants were truly a highlight in both food and service.

If you’re okay with a slightly cheaper vacation in exchange for mediocre service fifty or so percent of the time and limited drink selection, this is the resort for you!

Perfect resort for a girls trip!

Overall, a fantastic resort - highly recommend! Feels very new, rooms and common areas are so nice, clean, modern, well equipped. Pool is incredibly huge - unlike any pool I've ever seen. Part of a larger resort so fun to bounce around and check out the other areas and offerings. The broader resort has everything you could imagine - a mall, bowling, ice skating, a casino, a dance club, an amazing spa, dolphin show, beach activities, sports bar, mini golf, surfing experience, the list goes on. Only three minor complaints - 1) you can't get booze in your room as part of the all inclusive even with premium level - only beer and very sweet sparking wine, 2) the resort has Pepsi products - I very much prefer Coke products, and 3) no pool side food - you have to get dried off/dressed and go inside to eat at a buffet for lunch. Other than those small issues, the resort is perfect. We've been three times and will be back for sure! If you can get the Presidential suite (premium level) you will certainly be impressed - gorgeous room with incredible views from the large balcony.

Best resort and outstanding service

This resort is absolutely amazing. It has all the amenities you need and you'll always find a lounge chair by the pools. Norma Guiterrez is one of the servers at the pool, she alwqys greets and serves you with the biggest smile. Dayma is wonderful as well. We were here for my hubby's 50th and we had a blast!! Can't wait to be back!!

Best food experience of my life!

We had dinner at one of four restaraunt’s all overseen by executive chef Julio Reyes. We ate at La Comedia an amazing French restaurant. It was absolutely the best food experience of my life! The service was exceptional and the food was AMAZING. Don’t walk run to this place it’s a must if your looking fora food experience like no other. Can’t wait to go back!

Barcelo Maya Riviera Agave Restaurant

Just arrived but this hotel is everything we paid for. Very nice 5* adults only hotel. Alexander Hernandez and Yamel Ramos at the Mexican Agave Restaurant give an excellent service always on top of anything we need. Always around, filling our glasses without us having to ask.

Beds are not comfortable, poor customer service, dirty toilets in room and broken television and equipment in room

Horrible customer service at this hotel. I called the front desk requesting two blankets. After an hour no one showed up to deliver the blankets. I called the front desk again and no one answered. I went on to dinner and when I got back I stopped at the front desk to request the blankets after twenty minutes no one showed to the room to deliver them. I also noticed that someone entered our room when we were away at dinner, they did not clean up or make the beds they switched out the towels which we did not need or request. I signed a paper requesting no housekeeping since we were here on a short stay, I also pressed a button in the room for no housekeeping and someone still entered the room. When I called the front desk to report the blankets were not delivered and to report someone still entered the room while we were at dinner a man answered he did not identify himself, I asked to speak with a manger he asked what I needed to speak with a manager for I asked is this a manager he repeated to me “what do you need a manager for” I then asked is this a manager he said yes, I began to tell him about how someone entered the room when we signed a paper at check in indicating we did not want housekeeping and how upset I was because I did not lock up personal valuable belongings because I didn’t expect anyone to enter the room. The man on the phone who later was identified as David Bastiya began to cut me off and told me if your upset I will not be able to help you and then hung up the phone on me. I immediately went to the front desk to speak with him and there was no one at the front desk. I knocked on a door that is in the hall area which I believe connects to the front desk and David appeared. I asked him why he would hang up the phone on me when I was upset about someone entering the room and reporting the blankets had not arrived, he told me because I was rude. I was shocked that instead of apologizing about the blankets never showing or that someone entered the room I was called rude. David escalated the situation and laughed at me when I expressed how upset I was. I didn’t feel comfortable speaking with him any further and requested to speak with someone else and he stated there was no one else I could speak with. The interaction with someone that was supposed to be a manager was unacceptable and made it so I will never visit this hotel ever again. I have been to this hotel 8 times since 2021 and I have never been treated so poorly. In addition to this interaction there were also other issues such as when ordering a drink at the pool bar Osiris Hernandez took my order and then walked away to another side of the bar and never made my drink and then began making other drinks on another side of the bar, the room toilet being dirty when we entered the room the first day after waiting three hours, the control panel to flush the toilet broke off, there is a line in the television. I overlooked the room issues because we loved the resort so much but I will never ever visit this resort again due to the poor customer I received from David whom was supposed to be a manager.

beautiful hotel

Beautiful hotel with very clean and spacious room with jacussi on a balcony , make sure u get the ocean view , delish food/ we loved the french restaurant and italian, breakfast buffet was good too, beautiful beach with lots of palm trees,, only the customer service at the reception desk was not good, first couple days was lots of surgassum, after people start to complain and barcelo cleaned the seaweeds, and was so beautiful for the rest of our stay, we stayed 8 nights

Over rated!

First: Room service is not included so hubby and I got heatstroke and decided to stay in for room service. Now I’m told that it’s not my “category “. I wasn’t given any option to pay for any categories in the first place

The initial I got was damp and musty. Condensation in the suite mirror, not washroom.Then they gave me the next room where I found a small bloodstain, thumb size

Restaurant booking is a mess, we have three and they said we only booked for 1 person. But the manager at Japanese restaurant fixed it. So good on him

In general this is more a business resort , although new but no feeling of holidays.
Menu is the same daily. Probably won’t do it again.

I traveled with two friends to Barceló Riviera to celebrate my 40th and I cannot stress enough how wonderful this place was. From the minute we arrived, the bellhop gentlemen were very attentive and directed us where to go. Check-in at the premium lounge was effortless. We reserved a swim up room, and when we walked in the room we were blown away. It was spacious, and the swim up pool was beautiful. We asked to have the couch set up for sleep, and within minutes there was a gentleman at our door ready to do so. This was the case with most of our requests during our stay.
The food at the buffet was good with a lot of options. All of the staff were very friendly and attentive. I was blown away with how hard they all work, all while smiling.
The a la carte restaurants were great. Beware that you should make reservations when you check in as walk-ins are not guaranteed. Our favorite was the French restaurant. Our waiter, Juan Velasquez, was attentive and took his time to explain all of our choices to us! They even sang me happy birthday in French :).
We hung out at the pool bar where the activities happen. Bartenders Yassenia and Giovanni were great! They were interactive and made drinks you can taste :)
The girls from entertainment were fun! I unfortunately only remember Michelle’s name, but they were all great! Our favorite parts were the water aerobics and the dance lessons!
My only rec would be to have livelier nighttime entertainment as the slow music at the 9pm hour made me ready to go to my room and not wait until the dj took over
Otherwise I would 100% recommend this location to everyone!

DONT COME HERE

NOT at all inclusive more like open bar. EVERYTHING is 20$ extra, bowling, water slides, haunted house, ice skating. Genuinely disappointed. Beaches were not taken care of and there was piles of seaweed everywhere. We had a suite with a pool and they came and cleaned it once throughout our seven day stay. There was feathers, and all sorts of bugs in our pool for multiple days even after calling and asking them to clean it. Would not ever come here again. Ripoff for how much money it is.
