Mexican Dream

An utterly amazing holiday in Mexico and an amazing stay at Bahia Principe Sian Ka'an! The room was specious and comfortable, with a lovely view of rain forest from our balcony. Well to be honest it felt more like we were in the jungle, it was a great experience. Complex is just huge, but getting around was never an issue because of the inter hotel buggy system - a fabulous touch! The food in the buffet was delicious and works class in the all carte restaurants. We had a booking g every night and needless to say we both feel out of touch cooking now back home. The beach was beautiful, just utterly stunning. We swam in the gloriously warm sea, and always saw staff maintaining the beach and removing any seaweed that had collected by the surf. We will be back Bahia we promise. Thank you for an amazing holiday to Mexico, on what will be first of many trips 😀.

Great Holiday, Great Staff, Great place

Both myself and my wife had a very chilled holiday here for 11 nights. Weather was great with mostly sun every day and the odd cloud. Room was a little tired, but clean large and perfectly adequate.
Seaweed was an issue on arrival, but the staff worked tirelessly to clean it up, although this involved JCB's and trucks on the beach, you could always find somewhere away from this activity and it really did not impact our stay. After that first couple of days the amount of seaweed washing up lessoned and was not a big issue.
Staff are very friendly and go the extra mile to make you welcome.
Food was great we ate out 8 times and all were very good, our favourites were the HinduThali and Alux.
Trolley buses ran regularly between the hotels and beach, we never had to wait more than 15 mins, but more than often it was just a few mins.
Top tip, as everyone seems to have mentioned is to check in to the hotel online on the Bahia app and book your restaurants in advance. (They book up quick) If you don't manage to get in where you want keep an eye on the app as people will change their plans and cancel.
Bahia encourage long trousers when dining for men, thus is certainly not enforced and you will be welcomed in shorts.
Tipping - we didnt really have a clue what to tip. We left a dollar for a drink and 100mxn for room service a day, we left a note asking for our mini bar to be filled with what we drink and this was done. We left 100mxn or 200mxn for restaurants. Still not sure if we got it right but everybody seemed happy.
We both would definitely go back here again, we even discussed booking for next year.

Amazing stay!

This was our first time in Mexico and we thoroughly enjoyed 10 nights stay in the hotel. Although the room was a little tired, it was cleaned and mini fridge stocked every day. We stayed in deluxe junior garden suite. We have not used the outdoor jacuzzi as the hotel is in the jungle and too many mosquitoes. Visited a few restaurants within all four hotels within the resort. We spent most of time in Akumal as more lively and close to the beach. Overall amazing stay we will remember for a long time. Great memories.

Great place for a holiday with staff who make you feel like family

This is our 3rd visit to Sian Kaan and 6th to the complex so we know it well and will try and do a balanced review.
Staff at the hotel and generally across the complex are excellent, a shout out to Armando in Guest relations, amazing, friendly and always helpful. Mirian and Daniel in the buffet restaurant are fantastic. To be honest everyone, porters, reception, house keepers, bar staff , ground staff etc are all amazing and more like family. We stayed in the penthouse so lots of room and obviously the extra top floor with a great view and private sun areas. The rooms are a little dated now, but we like them all the same. The only negative, if there is one is that the hot tubs desperately need replacing and the little fixes ( fibreglass in this one) are now showing their age.
Al a carte restaurant reviews will vary as personal choice will always be a factor but these are our reviews from our last visit.
To start with consistency is not a given, sometimes a great meal and next time it’s lacking

KATOK: steakhouse which we enjoyed last year but has to be the worst service and food across the entire site. The tables are like sitting in a school nursery and about the same size. Service, felt abandoned once shown to your table, welcome drink after your starter, chaos to be honest and the steaks were terrible. We cancelled our second visit and we weren’t the only ones.

MAIKO: great service and great food, we can definitely recommend the salmon, for pudding I had Camelado, which is coffee jelly with vanilla ice cream and coffee liqueur, I still can’t decide if it was good or bad but every time I think about it I laugh, give it a go and imagine the child that made it 😁. On our second visit the inconsistency raised its head, such a shame when it’s a great restaurant.

ALUX: When is the menu going to be changed, staff and atmosphere are great and the food is still good but for those who have been a few times ( believe me there are many) the limited menu is now repetitive, if it’s your first time you will love it.

DOLCE VITA: so good this year we went twice, highly recommend the minestrone soup but you can’t go wrong for service, food and pace, just excellent.

TEQUILA: the food is of its usual good quality, but the key to this restaurant is the atmosphere and vibe. Sad to say , no vibe at all on this visit.

THALI (Indian) the food was really good and the menu has been adjusted for choice, but we had a 9:00pm sitting and the service was so slow we didn’t get the main course until well after 10pm by which time we were a bit past it.

LA GRAN TORTUGA. (Brazilian) in 2024 it was great and would recommend HOWEVER, service rubbish, food tasteless and no seasoning, and some so tough we couldn’t chew it. We actually left mid meal it was so bad and cancelled our second visit.

PORTOFINO: food good, atmosphere good and our server JENNY was so happy and welcoming- an all round good place to eat.

KU’UK: as to be the favourite, recommend the Schrimp Mole (starter) steak or pork rib both cooked perfectly and chocolate volcano for pudding. All in all the atmosphere, food and service makes it a number 1 choice.

Obviously there are a choice of pools across the site, love the quiet pool near Alux and it’s a little deeper than the rest, great for peace and quiet. Get yourself across to the AKUMAL for the infinity pool in the adult section.

If you are staying on site at the Sian Kaan, then the buffet restaurant for lunch is far better than the Cenote in our opinion, for both choice and quality, well worth drying off .

And remember when you have tried all the drinks on the menu, ask for a Mexican Guinness 😁

So excellent, we can't wait to return.

Great holiday as always. Stayed at B P Sian Ka'an this year as Akumal was being upgraded. Mosquitos are always a bit of trouble but a quick spray before we ventured out helped. Ala carte's as always were fantastic and buffet food great too.Erandi at customer service was a big help . Changing our ala carte's from 9pm to a better 7.30-8pm even on her day off ! Edwin always gave us a lift to our room at the far end of the complex as my husband hurt his foot slightly. Will certainly be returning.

Fantastic resort.

another excellent vacation at Sian Ka'an. Staff, like Erandi, Isobel, Carmen, Edgar, Gabriel, Alena, Pastor and Roque (with glasses) were the most helpful, gracious staff who welcomed us with open arms. 10th visit to this resort and cannot wait to go back. Only one thing was not good, that is the beach - too rocky, and not enough sand. Alux and Maiko has great food and excellent service, and the recommended Mexican bottle of wine was fantastic.

Do not book

Tired, old, unmaintained hotel. Lack of investment. Other bits of complex being renovated with current customers present.
Shame on the owners. Obvious staff cuts and budget cuts to blame for pitiful experience.
Character full, fab resort ruined by big business...

Our Happy Place

The staff are amazing at this resort and always make the experience exceptional. The resort does need a refresh as the rooms are dated but it is kept clean. We have been back for 3 weeks and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Disappointed travellers

We are presently staying at the hotel for 9 days for a golfing trip. The PGA golf course is amazing but the hotel could be better.
We were only able to secure 3 dinners at the restaurant for our 9 days stays. They says it’s fully booked everywere but only a few restaurants are open every night.
Last year we had a better experience, we will not be coming back.

Amazing 2 weeks

Wonderful resort, our 7th trip. The room is very comfortable. We were lucky to get our favorite room again.The resort is so well kept just beautiful.
There is 4 resorts we have access too. There are 14 amazing alacarte restraunts.
Ana our privilage rep was so amazing, made our 2weeks special. Ana arranged all our dinners and pickups. Greeted us everyday to make sure all is going well.
The buffet is amazing, so much to choose from. Marina our server and wait staff are so amazing.
The bars are first class.

Always amazing

Always and Amazing time, Jennifer Lopez the lobby waitress is amazing, Carlos in the snack bar at night putting up with all the loud people and chasing off racoons, service was bar none the best I've had. It is under renovations so lots of stuff was closed across the entire 4 resorts. Do your research before booking if you have certain expectations.

Best vacation of my life!

It was our first time visiting and we were absolutely thrilled with our experience! We had perfect weather, food and drinks were excellent and we met the most amazing people. The only negative were the mosquitos but we know nobody has control over that. The activities at the pool were so much fun that we never made it to the beach!

Unsafe, unsanitary, and traumatic stay — avoid this resort!

My experience at Bahia Principe Luxury Sian Ka’an was extremely distressing and unsafe. On my first night, I woke up struggling to breathe from a strong mold smell in my room. Despite calling the front desk multiple times after midnight, it took nearly an hour for anyone to respond. The second room they moved me to had clearly been sprayed with air freshener to cover the same problem — once the window was closed, the mold smell came right back.

I have asthma, and the exposure triggered a serious asthma attack and high blood pressure. The resort doctor advised hospital care, and I had to cut my trip short to return home for treatment.

The property was completely unsanitary — dirty fans, musty air, stained towels, and mold strong enough to cling to my clothes and luggage even after washing. The staff showed no empathy or urgency during a clear medical situation.

It’s also not a vibe if you’re under 50. The crowd is older, it’s far from the beach, and you have to rely on slow golf carts to get around. Nothing about this place feels “luxury.” It’s outdated, humid, and uncomfortable. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone — especially those with allergies, asthma, or any kind of health sensitivity.

Sian Ka'an Oct. 2025 - Girls Trip

I recently returned from my 11th trip to Sian Kaan where I was joined by 2 friends. One had been to Sian Kaan with me twice before and the second recently came to Canada from India and hadn't been on an all-inclusive vacation before. When we arrived, we learned that we our rooms were being upgraded due to my gold status :) Our vacation was amazing from start to finish! We spent a lot of our time in the party pool and loved the entertainment staff (Katia, Alex, Francisco and Josue). Katia's fitness classes were also awesome and we had a great time at the foam party! My one friend loved playing volleyball in the pool! Carlos at the bar was amazing as always, as were the additional staff at the pool bar. We ate several meals at the Cenote snack bar. Staff were very friendly and the food (and beverages) were tasty! I want to acknowledge Roque for his excellent service at both Maiko and Alux. Jesus at the Gran Tortuga also went above and beyond for our final a la carte. I also want to acknowledge Carlos and Giovany at the lobby bar. They kept the drinks flowing for the many Jays fans in the crowd. In addition, I had a massage and facial combo by the lovely Berenice - spa here is great! I can't wait to come back here over the holidays and I'm excited to check out the new Tequila section of the resort.

BP Sian Ka’an October 2025

We have been to this resort many times over 24 years, occasionally at Sian Ka’an as I prefer closeness to the beaches. However the idea of no kids won out. Not disappointed as knew what to expect. I must say the staff is the most important asset and again they did not disappoint. The wait staff in the lobby and at the pools, together with the bartenders and restaurant servers are all wonderful as well as very professional and courteous. Most we know over the years and always take care of us. The food in the Buffet was plentiful and lots of good choices. The Alux was excellent. Sadly Maiko quality was slightly lower this visit however the service was good. Other a la cartes we visited on the property were very good with the exception of the Don Pablo. This has been our favourite for years and have never been disappointed however I will put reason for a poor dinner as to our choice. We selected the Veal Cheeks with Risotto. Not good. The taste was just not for us. I will be objective and put it down to the choice and hope for the best on our next visit. I will say the alcohol selection has changed over time as well but I can always find a drink that appeals to me. Having said these comments, we still very much enjoyed ourselves, having met many friends here over the years.
