Beware of Seaweed

We were made to feel extremely welcome, but unfortunately when we were shown to our room the door wouldn’t unlock. The person showing us had to return to reception, our door lock had flat batteries. Not a good start.

The room was spacious, the air con worked well and there was plenty of cupboard space. The bathroom was as expected, although the towels are a bit on the small side.

The fridge was stocked with 4 bottles of water. There was an empty glass decanter sitting on a shelf near by. Which we assumed was so we could refill it at the water station we’d noticed on our corridor. Unfortunately this decanter when you looked into was grubby so I wouldn’t use it. So if you want your fridge restocked then visit reception and request more water.

Food - having visited many all inclusive resorts I’m making the comparison against them. This was a small resort against others I’ve stayed in, although the choice at each meal wasn’t as varied as others the quality of the food was extremely good. They appeared to have themed evening meals. So if you’re there more than a week the menu will repeat.

At the start of our stay the beach was beautiful but after around 4 days the seaweed arrived and didn’t stop until just before we left. They tried to clear it but there was just too much. Given the lagoon style of the beach once it was in it wasn’t going to be removed by the tide. This problem made the pool area even more busy.

We ate in all the speciality restaurants, you ‘qualify’ for a free booking for every 3 nights booked at resort. A good scheme as it makes it possible to actually try them. So 6 nights = 2 bookings.

The pool area had extremely comfortable sun beds, although these tended to fill early, there was also an issue of shade as not all seating gave this option. Finally the pool which I found extremely disappointing, its small and shallow. Even the deepest parts could be stood up in. As a swimmer it wasn’t possible to really have a decent swim. Although the pool toys were a nice touch.

The beech was beautiful the 1st few days of our stay, then the seaweed arrived. Although the resort attempted to clear it there was just too much. Given the lagoon style of the beach once the weed arrived there was no way for it to leave other than in a wheel barrow.

Something I feel would have made are stay a little better would be a hotel directory in the room. There were facilities we didn’t know about till close to the end of our stay.

A Safe and Relaxing Experience

This resort was impressive! From customer service and warm welcome to great food and well kept surroundings, I enjoyed my stay and felt super relaxed. I must mention Shaniel from Front Desk, Rashaun, Justin, Daniel and Lee- all of whom were incredibly kind and professional!

Sugar Bay September 2025

Part 1

Just got back from Sugar Bay, this was our second visit to this hotel, we decided to return for our 20th wedding anniversary.

Over-all a great experience, the staff can't do enough for you, everyone is happy to help, the front desk were helpful and proactive when we had two small issues.

The water sports team are all nice lads and are always at hand to help if you want an umbrella or towels, take out a non motorised bit of kit if you want to try to do some paddle boarding etc. The beach is cleared of seaweed every morning, the amount of seaweed is depending on the tide what can you do about it, the lads clear it. A good tip is to bring some water shoes, there are some small stones in the shallows, the increase and decrease with the tide and current.

Also over that side of the site is Colin's bar Arkeem (apologies if the spelling is incorrect) and Daniel are at hand to make you a refreshing drink, a dirty banana is a nice smoothy to try! These two lads are always happy they never let on if they are having a bad day. You can order food here as well, just less choice, we used the main restaurant called Reef as it was nice to get out of the sun.

Food was a high standard, there were only two days where the menu didn't suit our pallet, we went to sizzle the steak restaurant and had a nice meal a couple of times, once you work out the rotation of the menu. There is another restaurant on site which didn't really tick our box when we looked at the menu, sort of Japanese / oriental cuisine. If the hotel had a blogger to take some shots and start an Instergram or X page it would help show any would be guests who were worried about some of the negative reviews there isn't much to be worried about.

The restaurant staff are fantastic, never an empty glass on the table, they also clear the plates quickly to prevent the pigeons trying to pick at what's left. This is a battle between the staff and the birds, mostly in the mornings and at lunch times, what can you do about it tbh it's easy pickings for nature.

There is a Pub on site which opens at 21:00 which has a dart board and pool table, this would be nice if it could open a little earlier, it's hidden away so probably doesn't get many people attending. Above the pub is the gym, for me this is one of the best equipped gyms I have experienced whilst away in the Caribbean. It's under represented by the brochure and the photos on tripadviser don't really show what it has, it opens at 05:00 and shuts at 22:00 water and towels and to AC units, shower and toilet all in the space.

The grounds are kept clean, the rooms are basic, but are fine for what you do in them, if you want more of a view then book a sea view, we didn't go for this so can't grumble. The room has a fridge and small freezer compartment, water is in the fridge no other drinks supplied other than the standard team and coffee and small creamer pots.

There are a lot of Brits that use this hotel, and from Thursday guests come from the States for a long weekend, a good mix of people. No need to do a sunbed dash with towels there was loads free when we went, didn't use the main pool only the plunge poor by Colin's bar so can't comment.

For a memorable vacay… choose Sugar Bay

The trip was wonderful totally enhanced by the beauty and peacefulness of the location and especially the kindness, graciousness and professionalism of the staff. The resort staff is particularly mindful of the dietary needs of the guests, ensuring that all tastes and preferences are catered to… that was perfect because of my particular diet. The location is quite central and you can practically walk to the hot spots and night life. But, you really don’t have to leave the resort, there’s nightly world class entertainment creating a romantic festive and fun atmosphere. Sugar Bay is truly a beautiful resort tucked away on the beach.

Always a wonderful stay at Sugar Bay

This was our seventh stay at Sugar Bay and it was as good as all the others. What makes the hotel is the staff - super helpful, friendly and genuine. We enjoyed the food, the cocktails, the sunsets, the ambiance. Ready to book for 2026 as it has become our vacation home away from home.

Thank you Sugar Bay

We have just had a fantastic holiday at Sugar Bay, from the moment we arrived to finally leaving we’ve enjoyed every minute.
The garden view room was spacious, well decorated and very clean and comfortable with air conditioning which was needed to the hot weather and humidity.
The food and drinks were excellent, Reef buffet food restaurant offered so many types of food and this varied daily with selections of different meats, fish, salads, pasta not forgetting local barbadian specialties. We visited Sizzle a couple of times and the steak was amazing as was the rest of the meal, only problem was the heat up there, but we’re told air conditioning is due to be fitted in November which will help massively.
Collins beach bar is great for lunch and the local fish was excellent as were the hot dogs and drinks to cool you while on the beach.
The watersport team on the beach were great fun and Kyle and the rest of the guys were there for sun beds, umbrellas, snorkelling gear and good advice with laughs.
Nightly entertainment was great and the Caribbean nights were our favourite with some great fun with other guests.
We would certainly recommend Sugar Bay and struggle to find anything to complain about at all. A special mention is needed for Akiel who kept us refreshed with coconut slush and also Kimberly whose friendly smile whilst keeping the reception and lobby slip free made our day.
Thanks Sugar Bay for a terrific holiday see you again soon sometime hopefully…

Sugar Bay All the Way!!!!

Sugar Bay Resort All-inclusive was absolutely amazing. First time in Barbados and Sugar Bay did not disappoint. The Oceanview room spectacular, the food, drinks, entertainment and the staff were absolutely amazing. We did the Harrison's Caves absolutely amazing and highly recommend. We rode horses at the Ocean Echo Stables an experience we will not forget. The staff at Sugar Bay arranged everything for us right down to having our own personal taxi take us on a complete island tour. Again, if you have a chance to go to Barbados take the time and stay at Sugar Bay! We highly recommend and we will be back!

Perfect Hotel and First Class Staff

Just returned from our first visit to Barbados and Sugar Bay
I cannot rate the hotel
Highly enough
Staff were amazing So helpful and friendly Nothing was too much trouble
Our room was in Block 3 - was clean and spacious. My 1 negative is the lack of plug points but it didn’t spoil anything
The guys who clean the pool were out every morning and a few times we saw them also using the net later on to clean off leaves etc
Beach - I normally don’t spend a lot of time on a beach but I couldn’t resist this one Some mornings I was down early and it felt like my own private beach and so peaceful
Water sports guys happy to set up umbrellas also plenty tables which was great
Tip - take water shoes !
Food was fantastic at the buffet and we had 2 visits to Sizzle and 1 to Umi
Overall a fantastic experience and would certainly return

Lovely stay at Sugar Bay, highly recommend!

My husband and I had a great time here last week. Great location, everyone was so friendly, delicious food - we would definitely come back! We’ve been to many all inclusive resorts across the Caribbean and this one ranks at the top.

Pros
- I have a gluten intolerance (not celiac) and had no problem with the food here. There was always gluten free bread, muffins, and dessert in a separate section. In the buffet the chefs were so helpful pointing out what was safe, they clearly communicated they use cornstarch instead of flour wherever possible.
- There are 2 restaurant on site (steakhouse and Japanese) and because we were there for 6 nights got to eat at each of them once.
- We never had problems getting a seat or umbrella at the beach of pool. Could have helped that we were there off peak! Loved that the beach water was calm because it was protected by the reef. We snorkeled directly off the shore and there were lots of fish to see.
- We also got a lovely room upgrade with a beach view and separate living room area from the bed.
- Service was great, everyone was so friendly. Our room was always kept clean.

A few small cons were that the bed was too firm, the pool was a bit small, and the bedding was a bit rough. But other then that no complaints! I would definitely return

If you're coeliac, gluten free. Great place

Just had a fabulous 10 nights at Sugar Bay.
The food is great. Who doesn't appreciate eating whilst overlooking the ocean.
They catered extremely well for hubby who is coeliac.
The drinks are incredible, you have to try the mud slides ( it's a drink not an activity)
Spend time at the pool bar making new friends.
The pool area is cleaned daily, and there's a nice touch of pool towels on sunbeds.
Towels are also provided for the beach and can be changed daily.
What makes this place stand out is the staff. Nothing is too much trouble and are all friendly.

Very good

Spent a week earlier in October at the Sugar Bay with partner on an all-inclusive basis.
The hotel is quite compact, not a sprawling affair and everything happens around a central reception area. The buildings are set back from the main road and there is no intrusive noise from the surroundings. Our double room was clean and comfortable with maid service regular in the morning although replacement of bathroom towels could take place at any time later in the day. There is plenty of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner with consideration of dietary requirements, however waiter service for drinks and table clearing could be a bit better. The bars are well staffed and offer plenty of choice. Families and children are accommodated well.
Anyone who has been to an all-inclusive hotel in the Caribbean will recognise what is on offer here, perfectly satisfactory but not a stand out either.

Amazing 25th wedding anniversary 10/10❤️🥰🇯🇲

For our 25th wedding anniversary, we decided to shoot big, and get out of our comfort zone and leave the US. Our stay was outstanding! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with smiles, rum punch and the sweetest people. The buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner never disappointed. With a different theme everyday there's something for everyone and plentyyy to choose from. And for those people who complain about it, I'm convinced they're the people who nothing will make them happy and complain just for the sake of it. One of our servers, Breanna was such a sweetheart, i know shes going to do great things! Keep that smile girl🥰, it works well on you! The rooms were clean, comfortable and air conditioned. Shamara, Germaine, and Kimberly were always around keeping things spotless, with smiles on their faces everyday, they were so pleasant and welcoming, and Kimberly is the cutest ball of fun! The staff were amazing and the bartenders were on point. Joan, Helen and Lee are super sweet, fun to talk to and whip up some banging drinks, anything you can possibly think of and a few you'd never think of! Try Joan's Bounty 😉. But we have to give extra extra props to Akiel. Not only was he on point, friendly, out going, would show up on the beach with our favorite drinks without even asking, AND also makes some amazing drinks, but he went ABOVE and BEYOND for us on multiple!!!! occasions!!!! on his days off none the less. We cant even express our extreeme gratitude. Sugarbay is lucky to have him! We're looking forward and cant wait to go back!

Paradise and so much more.

Just a few days back home and already longing for the magic of Sugar Bay. From the moment we arrived, every smile, every gesture, every moment made our stay unforgettable. The entire team is a credit to the resort and to the Island, too many incredible people to name, each one leaving a lasting impression and elevating the experience beyond expectation.

Still, a few stars 🌟 shone especially bright: David, Lee, Nicolas, Helen, Andre, Andrea (Omlettes) and Latina, your energy, kindness, and dedication made all the difference. 🙏🏼

Thank you for the memories. Until next time… 🌴✨

Lostinparadise - if you know, you know

I don't think there is anything that hasn't been said before about this super hotel.

We arrived back in September and from the moment we checked in to the moment we said goodbye we could not have wished for anything more. We loved every second of our stay (except the pigeons :) ).

Check in / out: Seamless. The boys and girls on reception were super helpful and couldn't do enough to help / guide and advise.

The room: The room was an ocean front room and it was wonderful. Spacious, massive bed and a great bathroom. Great air con too. The patio area was comfortable and 5 strides from the glorious beach. Kimberly kept our room spotless and was the friendliest person I have ever met.

The food: Wonderful. Unlike any AI I have been to before. Not a million things to pile on your plate but instead, quality products that were perfectly cooked and not a chip in sight! Breath of fresh air! Everything was fresh and high quality. The guys and girls looking after you in there are second to none, all smiles and very attentive without been "in your face". Both specialist restaurants were also just fabulous. Umi - big portions, wonderfully cooked and beautifully presented. Sizzle - the BEST steak I think I have every had. Cooked to absolute perfection, no fat / veins running through it, just perfect served with a lovely salad . Warm in the restaurant but didn't detract from the food. So full without a starter or a pud :) We went to this one twice, no reflection on Umi just a timing thing. For clarity as I have seen a lot of people asking on the Facebook group - 10 nights = 3 restaurant "tickets"

The pool: Be prepared to melt, with it been well away from the beach the breeze was none existent - perfect for me but if you are not a sun worshiper go to the beach :) Small pool but perfect just for a quick cool off. Sun loungers round the pool are super comfortable too - so if you are a sunbed snoozer don't forget your sun cream :)

The Beach - just glorious. Where I spent most of my days. Nice breeze, quiet, sea like stepping into a hot tub. Perfect and only a quick walk to the bar - bonus!!

The main bar: The guys and girls on the bar were mostly all smiles and did cocktails that were fabulous. Mudslide was my favourite.

Collins - we only went once as we camped out at the other end of the beach - didn't eat just a beer. Preferred the main bar.

Gym: machines outdated but for a quick "damage limitation" session (see mudslide comment above :):):) it did the job.

Overall a friendly, welcoming place where you were in the most greeted with a smile and a wave. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend SB.

Thank you team Sugar Bay for an experience we will never forget

Professional and friendly staff in a great environment.

Have no negative comments to say about hotel only praise for professionalism and friendly hospitality from staff. Food ,drink and entertainment were excellent with plenty of choice. Room and restaurant were clean and airy. We would like to visit again and would recommend this hotel as it is first class.

Paradise

Visited 14th - 24th October.
Well what can I say, a fantastic holiday, the beach is just beautiful, amazing food (especially the buffet) drinks are of exceptional quality, not your watered down or pre mixed cocktails. You must try the mudslides!! A meal in itself!
We stayed in room 352, lovely sized room with a spacious balcony. Comfortable bed. Not many plug sockets so bring an extension lead. Cleaning excellent. Rain Forrest shower abit off in that water comes out fast in only the middle of it but hand help shower was fine.
You need to be up early to get a bed round the pool - the usual 5am towels are out, shame but it makes you ‘one of them’ or you miss out. Lots of beds all day on the beach.
Handy water stations around the complex, bottles available at reception too.
We booked trips at reception, staff very helpful at all times.
We did the 6am Tuesday walk up to Pebble beach to see the race horses in the sea, this was abit of a disappointment in that it was not the race horses but people charging for photos and rides. I guess go earlier to see the actual race horses?
We also done the Cool Runnings Sunset Catamaran cruise, highgly recommend this was an amazing trip- great guys.
Our 10 day holiday was perfect and we will definitely return one day.

A Relaxing Celebration Break

Spent a really relaxing weekend at Sugar Bay, celebrating our anniversary and my son's graduation from university . The staff were outstanding from the time we arrived until we left and there were even some celebratory items placed in our room. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating but I must give a special shout out to Joan who's mixology skills are phenomenal, Taliq and Justin who made our dining experiences really enjoyable, Lasonta, our lovely hostess at Sizzle, the Reception team and Tremaine and the entire watersports team. These guys made our stay extra special. The beach at Sugar Bay was great. The water was calm and relaxing and there were more than enough beach chairs for all guests. The hammocks on the beach were a nice touch. It would have been nice to have more restaurant options but overall the food was good although I was not a fan of the pastries. The samosa and taco shells weren't quite right but there were more than enough buffet options that made up for that. Our room was nice and well appointed. The hotel decor was nice and welcoming although there were some areas that could use a refresh. We will be back.
