Amazing Honeymoon!

We were a little apprehensive when we read some previous reviews and we weren’t sure what to expect as it was part of a much larger family resort. However, we had the most amazing honeymoon and are so glad we booked it. To make this review easier to read, I’ve broken it down into areas.

Flight/Arrival: We flew premium with TUI as it was our honeymoon. It was comfortable and on time. We exited the airport quickly and found the TUI reps. This part was chaotic and not well organised although transport to our hotel was ok. Arrival at hotel was disappointing. No-one to greet us. We just queued to check in. No cool towel or welcome drink as we arrived although we did eventually get a drink.

Hotel: It is part of a larger family complex but is well hidden away. You can easily walk to the family part if you want to and access all their facilities. We did just to do some shopping and for a change of scenery. The children were well behaved!

Room: Our room was large and overlooked the pool. You could hear the evening entertainment but it wasn’t that loud and didn’t finish late. Air con worked fine. Mini fridge was restocked every day. Our maid was lovely (sorry, I can’t remember her name). Clean beach towels are left in your room each evening.

Pools: There are 2 pools, neither that big but adequate. One had a pool bar which we frequented most days and the other had massage jets which were lovely. A nice temperature too. We had no problem getting sun beds.

Restaurants: yes, you do need to book in advance either at reception or download the Catalonia app which we did and book a weeks worth in one go. There are adult only restaurants which we used each day. Thalassa where we ate a buffet breakfast every day, although the other restaurants also did breakfast. It doesn’t open for lunch so you either have to go to one of the other adult only restaurants nearer the beach or one on the family side. It also offers dinner buffet on a Monday and Friday evening. Other evenings it’s a Mediterranean restaurant and the outside area is TaoCat (lovely Asian food).
Siwichi, which was our favourite, is Peruvian and serves amazing steaks!
Beloved serves Caribbean and international whilst Toscana is Italian. Don’t be put off by Toscana as it has its own adult only section completely separate from the family one. You can access Beloved and Toscana from the adult side of the complex. Sushi and pizza are also available to takeaway for lunch. We had crepes one day from the creperie on the family side which were yummy!

Beach: To access the beach you either have to take a walk through the family area which wasn’t a problem or walk down the road which runs down the left hand side of the property. Yes, it’s a service road but it’s block paved, lined with trees and shrubs and well kept. We saw one small lorry use it the whole time we were there! It takes about 3-4 mins to walk. If that’s too much for you, you can always use the little golf cart that runs from reception to the beach and back. From our room by the pool bar, we accessed it by walking round the side of the second pool. The beach here is beautiful. Sand is soft and the sea is warm. No rocks when you walk in. There is a small man made reef near the edge of the swimming area ideal for snorkelling. The Royal has its own section on the beach which is large enough. Plenty of sunbeds although if you feel the need to be in the front row every day, you will need to get up early!

Staff/Entertainment: The staff here are second to none. They are all amazing and will go out of their way to ensure you have a fabulous time. Entertainment is fun with singing, dancing etc every evening. You can also join in with entertainment in the family side if you wish.

Although advertised as a 5 star, I would rate it as a very good 4 star compared to other Caribbean hotels I’ve been to. Just a few little things missed stops me rating it as a 5 star. However, don’t let this put you off. The hotel and staff are fabulous. We had an amazing time and will definitely be back.

Fantastic experience!!!?

Beautiful place! We had a lovely and relaxing holiday at Catalonia La Romana Adults Only. Everything was amazing — the room was very nice and kept sparkling clean, thanks to Reyna who was fantastic. The food at all the restaurants was plentiful and absolutely delicious — we especially loved the steak!

The entertainment team was outstanding — Sequetel, Fernando, and Estefan brought so much energy and enthusiasm, from organising morning yoga to putting on fun evening shows. They really added to our wonderful stay.

We’ll definitely be back! Such a memorable holiday — our only complaint is that we gained a few extra pounds from all the incredible food! 😄

Morning in paradise

We've been to Catalonia La Romana numerous times and the exceptional and courteous service keeps us coming back every year. La Romana should be an example of pure excellence. Jahugel made our mornings complete with her amazing coffees and positive attitude. She's constantly cleaning, conversing with the visitors, and preparing drinks.
