Don't go unless you want to just stay at the pool and veg.

The beach is crap with lots of floating logs and jellyfish. The pool is nice and the staff there are great. The ala cart meals were just Ok. The disco is not good. The resort ran out of vodka,gin,and Bailey's numerous times in our 2 weeks there. This is really a 2-3 star not a 4 star

Experience

The Italian restaurant is really good and great service. The manager Francisco had a lot of patience and provided great customer service. I observed how he handled a situation with a lady that thought she was the only one in the restaurant. Just a reminder to everyone if you show respect you will get respect. Be kind to others. Another manager that provided great service was Domingo (Bar Manager). He has great work ethics. He treated everyone with respect and provided great customer service. On my stay I had a great experience. I definitely will come back.

Good staff and hotel

Six senior ladies spent 10 Principe Luxury Bouganville Resort among the luscious flowers and statues of LaRomana, D.R. Upon arrival Dina and Nicy greeted us with Hola, but it was Concierge/butler Emelley Polo who exceeded our expectations. She took us on a tour to our rooms and made sure we were close to each other while being accessible to the quiet pool. Our rooms were large and clean but you may have to request face cloths. Emelley went out of her way to provide the smallest detail while making our dinner reservations at the al a carte restaurants with a smile. She treated us like family always. She is a true gem. We enjoyed our breakfasts on the outdoor terrace poolside and lunches outdoors by the larger activities pool. We were served by cheerful and accommodating waiters like Victor Sena, Gelson Franco, Ramoncita Genao, Mateo Almonte, Adderlin Polanco and Wm. Rodriguez. Poolside was a pleasure with Isaac Nunez and Christina the towel/toalla lady. Unfortunately the super deep drop at the waters edge made it impossible for us to go into the Caribbean Sea. A big disappointment. The beachside was lovely with plenty of Palapas. Air Transat rep Leonardo was in the Lobby every morning offering tours and information of all topics. He referred to us as his family. Which seem to be a common theme of the resort. It exceeded expectations and begs you to return again. A 5 star experience.

Girls trip for fun and sun. Did not disappoint. Great experience.

Friendliest staff ever! Waiters, bartenders, activity crew. Just a fantastic time!
Beautiful grounds too. The food was terrific. We stayed on the family side but had privileges on the adult side with my RCI exchange. WeThe resort was very clean. Grounds are beautiful. Food was excellent at the buffets and the ala carte restaurants as well. We wanted to stay longer. nice people everywhere. A very excellent experience. Thank you!

Nice Family Holiday

All in all we had a great holiday. The hotel has everything you can ask for right on the beach which was perfect to escape the noise from the pool some days. The food and drink were great and service generally was ok.

On the negative side the food in the Italian a la carte was poor and tasteless. Locals visit on a weekend and take over the pool and bar but we went to the beach to escape and this was nice and quiet. The rooms need modernising, we did have 2 issues but they were quickly resolved.

The entertainment staff were excellent especially mini pop the only thing is it's repeated every week and should be fortnightly.

Pool Bar and Beach Bar staff were brilliant especially Roberto and Jean Claude.

We also visited the beach club which isn't all inclusive but the food and drink here was great and not too expensive.

I would definitely return to another Bahia Prinicipe Hotel.

Never a luxury 5 star

Stayed in the so called luxury Bouganville adult only hotel. Far from luxury. Travelled with a party of 12 for a family celebration. Check in was almost 2 hours in a reception with no air con, door cards did not work in 3 rooms including mine, eventually got into the room to see a dated and dirty room, no where near 5 star, 3 star at best. Toilet seat was broken, fan didn’t work, bath had hairs in it, bath plug was stuck with dirt, shower head was all blocked with dirt. Over the holiday it didn’t get better, mini bar is supposed to be restocked daily, almost every night I had to call reception for a restock, some nights it didn’t even happen. Some nights had to call for towels as they didn’t leave any in our room. Our electricity broke one night in our room, took an hour to get someone in to fix it. A la carte restaurants were only open once a week despite advertising all a la carte restaurants, so it was very difficult to get in them unless you wanted to eat very early or very late. Lunch meal service was a joke, had a steak sandwich twice and both times only half the roll had steak in it, told the waiter and he just laughed at it.

One huge positive is the entertainment team, they are incredible. The most friendly people I have ever met on holiday. Special mention to Baby Angelo, Tinkabell, Mickey Mouse and Roberto - the four of you made my holiday bearable, you are all fantastic! You are the only reason I rate this at 2 stars and not just 1.

Summary - the place needs a complete refurb , in its current condition, it should be classified as 3 star at best in my opinion. I won’t be returning unfortunately.

Would not recommend

I would not recommend this hotel, I don't normally do this but I went with my family including kids and we booked 3 rooms to be together with double beds when we got there they had 2 rooms near each other with kings and 1 room far away! We had no hot water and the rooms definitely need to be up dating, the sliding glass doors ranged from having 1 lock to three locks. We Went to the beach and it looked beautiful from afar when going in it the water was brown. I will say the staff were welcoming and very nice always smiling !
The shops are very overpriced and only want cash but will take a card with a BIG up charge. I will not return to this resort

Great experience nice hotel

Very nice hotel, buffet had a great selection that changed every night it seemed, pool was large with a swim up bar. Jose Sanchez in the lobby bar area was amazing always moving quickly and remembered our drink order after one round super friendly. We did a couple of excursions as well the tour guide umberto was incredibly knowledgeable of Dominican history and very informative and gave us a great tour of altos de chevon

Pool worthy resort 👌

I traveled to this resort with my family and friends to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had a party of 25 people of all ages ( 1-65)
The rooms are a little outdated but nothing to consume us or ruin the stay. House keeping cleaned every day 🙌 stocked with fresh towels , water , beer, etc.
The hot water is more like Luke warm at best . But get in and get out, no big deal.
The pool is where we spent all of our time, which was our biggest disappointment about this trip. We love the beach & the blue turquoise ocean but this is not here. The water is very murky & dirty. My grandson was stung by a couple jelly fish along with others around us ( not the resorts fault) it's nature . The beach itself is clean , white sand & beautiful. You can go for a morning walk and enjoy it .
The activities at this resort for kids are great . My grand baby's loved the shows at night. They have a small kiddy pool they love , arts and crafts during the afternoons .
As for adults, the activities are pretty limited they do a few contest during the day , along with volley ball , water aerobic. They offered karaoke 1 night , and they have a small casino on site. The bartenders at the pool bar went above and beyond to figure out a drink I would like. I don't do sweet, so every day, they made sure I had papinos ( cucumbers) from buffet to make my drinks. The food wasn't horrible. But the same menu most nights . Lunch buffet was my favorite. The staff is friendly & very attentive. The coffee bar in the lobby is amazing also.
I've traveled all over the world & this is not our first time to Dominican so we do have knowledge of staying at good & bad . I would recommend this resort if your pool people & not looking for the blue turquoise water .

They really know how to treat their guests. Everything is so clean and nice. The entertainment staff is probably the best I have ever seen! The bartenders are extremely friendly! The food is very varied, everything was delicious. If you are traveling for sightseeing and entertainment, or even if you are traveling just to completely relax, this hotel is perfect!

Great vacation at Bahia Principal at la Romano

Very clean, beautiful sandy beaches, great pool area , very good food selection. The room decor was dated but very clean and comfortable. Service was exceptional. We would return . Transport from and to airport was on time . The entertainment was pleasant .

One step away from perfect

This review is essential and professional for people who understand. Our 3rd 10 days visit here in 9 years. What has improved is meals available 24 hours between main, beach restaurants and late night buffet. Available showers after checkout to go home clean after last day of stay enjoying the beach. WiFi available throughout the resort. Staff extremely friendly entertaining kids and adults day and evening. Food good choice and taste above average. Beach very nice, lots of space, chairs and shade available under umbrellas and palms, good maintenance and security throughout the complex. Rooms need a bit of an upgrade, but this is typical for this level resorts. House keeping is very good and tips make all services better.
Just one thing is missing to make this place perfect. No disco, dance bar with variety of music. The one they have repels almost everyone. I suggested to the hotel Management to fix this, did not see it happening while here. In order words if you are an adult and want to party after 11 p. m, you are out of luck here!!!!!!! I saw families and older people enjoying going to bed at 11, but not me and others I spoke with.
Conclusion: Nice and beautiful place to go to if late night dancing and partying is not in your mind 😎

We had a wonderful experience in this tropical paradise! Thank you, Nikki and Maria, for organizing excellent programs! We had a great time at the beach party, karaoke, 70's and 80's dance, and enjoyed the choreography dance and your costumes!!!

Honest review

Beach at this hotel is poor water is murky and full of jellyfish.
Entertainment is the worst we have ever encountered, same thing daily and nightly with a 7 day program. So if your here 2 weeks its even worse.
Where they have the entertainment is not air conditioned so very uncomfortable.
Food in Italian and fish restaurants is very poor , Asian and gourmet restaurants is very nice.
Main buffer has cold food and at breakfast worst eggs ever, omelette is ok.
Bacon burnt and fatty, .
Food is above average but not 5 star.
Rooms are good but ours had a smelly drain in the shower.
Staff do their best but hotel is lacking any class.
Noisy party pool but sadly entertainment is lacking.

Group Family vacation

We had a party of 17, ages from 2 and 4 yr old to 75 yr old stay from June 21-28, 2025
Pros: The hotel did keep all of us close together in buildings 17 and 18 by the pool. The rooms were nice sized and clean. The staff at buffets and restaurants were very friendly and accommodating for our large party . The food was fine, some in our group thought it was great . We did eat at the Italian and Gourmet restaurant with both being very good. The pool was nice , which was a good thing since the beach was not.
Cons: If you are a beach person and love the ocean , then this is not the place for you. The water had jellyfish and very murky so did not swim after a couple of them got stung. The pool bar is busy, however with that being said they seem to wait on all the people that speak Spanish prior to those few of us that speak English. I speak a little Spanish, however, that did not matter. We did not use the beach bar. The lobby bar was great though.
There was an issue with roaches in one of the rooms and seen on the side of the building and walkway going to the beach. I get it's a warm climate etc. But you would think they would keep up with extermination. When reported, they did send someone to fumigate the room. Just be mindful and check everywhere.
Overall, we did have a good time, (even if could only use the pool) and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We would not come back here again due to the beach/water. I would also be hesitant due to the bugs .
